Unreal. The first ski movie I ever saw was, "Something About McConkey" back in high school. We used to watch that VHS 4-5 times a week.

He will be missed.

I shed a tear for you shane. You were an incredible skier that changed the sport forever. If it was not for you powder skiing would not be like it is now. you are a true legend and hero and will NEVER be forgotten by anyone in the skiing world. I hope your rippin a line wherever you are.

Even as a snowboarder I realize what kind of impact Shane had on the snowsports world. I truly admired how he not only skied, but lived and loved his life. RIP to a legend.

"On March 26, 2009, Shane was Ski-BASE jumping in Italy. His ski failed

to release, either getting caught in his parachute and sending him into

an uncontrollable spin, or not allowing him to deploy his pilot chute.

He will be truly missed by the ski world being on of the most

influential skiers of all time. RIP Shane McConkey"

RIP Shane. so saddddd

Ski like McConkey! That was what we used to say to each other growing up in Minnesota riding at Afton Alps. We idolized Shane as a skier, an innovator, the man was hilarious on film. When BASE jumping first started getting popular I knew it wouldn't be long till Shane was filming an epic chase scene like that of James Bond where shane in MSP's film Push skis of the edge of this enormous 600ft. cliff. Not many of us skiers dare try to push it to the next level that McConkey has done. The extreme levels between gravity, weather, balls, and a man made parachute are what McConkey thrived for. You really are as free as a bird now, take flight and don't look back we're all coming eventually so don't wait up. RIP McConkey, you will be missed. True legends are never really born. TRAGICALLY they become legends when the pass away. McConkey always was a legend to me now he is and always will be a LEGEND to the world!
RIP

from my point of view...
