okay well first off i would like to say that i dont usually post things on ns, but i has just bought a few albums off itunes that my friend who knows alot about rap told me to get. First off, if you like little jon, j-kwon or rick ross i probably wouldnt even read this thread. First off, Jeru the Damaja's Wrath of Math album- made in 1996, all the beats by primo, buy this album if you like rap music, his words are so smart and intense and his voice is so smooth. Second, Afu Ra's body of the life force and life force radio-the CRAZIEST beats you have ever heard on both, afu kills it and has a similar style to jeru but newer and talks about more recent issues. Finally, Edo G and Pete Rock's My Own Worst Enemy-only 10 songs, but Edo G's style is so quality and Pete Rock hooks up the most amazing chill out beats. Now please don't read this thread if you don't like rap. But if you get any of these albums i promise you wont be dissapointed.
 
nothin wrong with lil jon and rick ross, just different style of rap. for me at least it depeneds on my mood but ill check dem out. check out shyheim - lost generation if u havent

I looked up jeru and Afu-ra on iTunes and they are way sick especially crossfire by Afu-Ra and mop
 
- check AZs first CD doe or die, shits classic, it came out the same time as Illmatic and is right up there with it,

- any organized confuzion or just straight pharoahe monch, prince po's new cd is only ok

- any of j dillas stuff is real good, donuts (32 instrumentals) and the shining (his last works) are both quality

- mr lif, his new cd mo mega is pretty good

- RA the rugged man has a real different feel and has to be the blackest sounding white rapper ever

- LITTLE BROTHER, a personal favorite of mine, get the Chitlin Circuit 1.5, such a good cd

- MF Doom, Danger Doom, very different style, really hit or miss depending on if you like the style or not

Also, check out the site artofrhyme.com, they have the best underground website i know of and their radio feature is sooo good, definitly check it out.
 
are you kidding me? rick ross has very little talent. all these new "crunk" rappers suck dick, no offense to any of them because they are really smart to be able to put forth such little effort and make so much god damn money. have you ever looked at the lyrics of some of these people? a lot of their shit doesn't even rhyme and has absolutely no meaning...

AZ, KRS-ONE, deltron 3030, swollen members, mac lethal, brother ali, mos def, heiruspecs, buck 65(good canadian rapper).. i would say atmosphere, but its almost as if he isn't underground anymore because he's soo good....... its also good to revive a little forgotten freshness such as spice one, ice cube.. i also really like busta rhymes although he isn't so underground, but definently under-rated

ok, so apparently "i ain't know"

all that i meant is it is hard to call atmosphere underground if you live in the midwest as i do, because EVERYBODY knows slugs lyrics and recognize his voice that listen to rap around here. i guess its probably not the same everywhere. plus he is so good, whenever anybody talks about underground rap he is a common name, if not the first to be brought up

as for people not rhyming this is the best example i can come up with on the spot other than just saying "rick ross".. miss rap superstar is this new reality show where they are searching for the best female rapper. i saw the elimination for the first episode of it on VH1 and if anybody else has seen this, they will know exactly what i'm talking about. this khia bitch who one-hit wondered with "my neck, my back" was on there and she was supposed to write a 16 line rap about female unionship or some shit like that and she basically told one girl in the on the other rap team to respect her 16 times.. every line ended with "respect me"..... it was down to 2 in the elimination and she was against a german girl who was creative, stayed on topic and flowed a 16 bar rhyme and the german chick lost

obviously, it's just reality TV but the show is called miss rap superstar, not miss repeat the same thing over and over again. my main point is that all these undergrounders have good beats, really creative rhymes that sound good and actually mean something, and yet the people making all the money are like TI and Lil Jon and 3-6 and their idea of a chorus is just saying the same thing like 8 times in a row
