i am a skiier comming midwest ice so i have always skied a narrow ski. currently i am on a invader which is good for park. but next year i am going to college in colorado and looking into geting a ski that can slay powder but also hande crud ski decent on groomers basically a ski to make a two ski quiver. i was thinking the 189 hellbents or 185 JJ maby even and obSETHed. im open to and sujestions and if it matters im 6ft and 175lbs

oh wow did NOT read. I'd suggest the new Boone Glowsticks or the JJs. Most of my friends I ski with have the new JJs and they LOVE them for everything, but our mtn doesn't have a park so they havent tried them out there.

blends, bacons are prophet 100's are all sick for allmt/pow charging... all depends on what you wanna do outside the park. i've heard seths, JJ's and VCT's are sick too

i really just wanna have a ski that i can have alot of fun on that skis off trails handels crud, pow, trees, small cliff (10-20), kinda a do it all fat ski cause i have my invaders for park, groomers and icy days. any help +++karma to helpful opinions

well from experience this is what i know: prophet 100's are a siiiick charging ski, it literally destroys anything you throw at it, from light pow, to ice & crud. the down side is that it is made to be a more of a freeride ski and not much a freestyle ski, so if that is what you want the 100 will deliver. blends are more of a 1 ski quiver (freestyle/freeride), i'm still waiting for my pair to arrive but i'm sure that i'll love them. using them as my everyday do everything ski (only can afford 1 pair), they will be replacing my 06 chronic wides so i'll still need to use them for park, pow and allmt during thew next 2 seasons (if they hold up). heard sooo many great things about them so i'm stoked! bacons i haven't tried but anyone who owns a pair swears by them. supposed to be a sick allmt, freestyle, pow ski with a much more softer flex all though it will still hold an edge and rip. i'm sure someone else could elaborate a bit more on these.

Indeed volkl gotama's are good for this or maybe even a bridge but that is a littel bit les in the powder than the gotama's .

As much as the trends and many people on here will suggest it, don't buy a massive pow ski such as the Hellbent, EP pro, LL2, Glowsticks, etc. The rocker will be hell for you coming off the Midwest, and since you'll be learning, you don't want to have to fight your skis, which can often happen with these large rockered models.

Obsethed or Prophet 100s would be good calls, the former if you want to be more jibby.

ive skied a prophet 90 before and honestly wasnt my favorite ski i have ever skied. and i hear that the 90 and 100 are practically the same so i dont think i want that unless the ski has changed durrastically in the past 2 years. how do obsethes handle in pow and soft snow?

I got a set of ~100 skis early this year to use an Mammoth and Tahoe. I tried the Obseth, Prophet 100, and Vokl Bridges, i ended up going with a set of Blue House District 176. They're all great skis, just a matter of what kinda feel you want in a ski.

You won't really need/want a strictly rockered ski for most days in Colorado, so try to look for something other than the Hellbents if this is a two ski quiver. I would suggest:

-VCT

-Seths

-ANT

-Older JJ's or 09 JJ's

-Bacons

That type of ski is going to suit you well here.

yah cuase when i replace my invaders ill prob most likely get a park ski that fatter can more all mountan than an invader but thats next years project

the perfect ski is the 4frnt ehp

stiff and good shape for charging yet its still fat and rockered so a lot of fun

i would go this ski over the jj for charging but the jj is more suited to all mountain + freestyle

also consider the hellbent, they are the funnest ski ever, and fine in chopped pow/ crud, just not hard packed steeps

hate to go with the crowd but i gotta say bents, but look into the obsethed they are pretty sweet might interest you

True, but what he described is more of an AllMtn ski. Guess it depends how you classify thing. If i was going for a two ski quiver...which i have sort the race skis. I went with an 85 waisted park ski and an 108 out of the park ski. I found the 100-115 waist range can float just about anything, you can charge the crud and groomers still one them. My experience on anything larger than 115 is the crud and groomer performance goes away pretty quick. Now if i was going 3 ski, I'd for a a fat boy like the JJs, hellbent, or Mavens. All super fun in the deep stuff, not so much for me on the groomers. You can ski stuff on them still ok...no as bad as say something like the pontoons, but i really can't charge them well in the crap and hard stuff.

just my 2 cents.

I've never seen a good review on the Seth, but i liked them. They are fairly soft compared to the Prophets and the Dirsticts but I'm a big kid, so i flex things more than most.

You might want to look at the prophet 130s, I've never been on them but i've heard they're pretty decent in the crud and on the hard stuff.

The JJs handle really well in a lot of stuff, especially crud. They are very different from the Hellbents, which are more of a deep-pow-only ski.

This guy is right.

You're better off getting a ski like one of the above then getting something like the Hellbent or EP Pro.

I ride VCT in 182 as everyday ski and before that I was on the ANTs. Both skis are sick for everything, steeps, crud, pow, trees, etc.

I'd say either the VCT or the ANT as the two skis that I've skied myself.

i'm riding jj's this year, and from every single person that i've talked to or heard from, there hasn't been a single complaint. Generally people are stoked on whatever pow ski they're riding, people with hellbents, bacons, jj's LL2s, whatever- pow skis are fun. However, if you look at the concept of a ski like the hellbent, and think about versatility it doesn't make sense, i mean, there's almost no sidecut, there's zero chamber, it's super heavy, and whenever i see someone land on them, they almost always wheely. Hate on me, but i just don't think the hellbents are a performance ski, they might be a fun ski, but if you want something to charge on, it's probably not your piece of cake.

there gonna come in a 181, i saw them at a demo. No matter what that 9 post newb said, the JJ KILLS IT EVERYWHERE, if u buy anything else, and ski the JJ's later, u'll wish u bought the JJ's. I skied them on a hardpacked morning, sunbaked afternoon day and they SLAYED the 6 to 10 in of heavy sunbaked chop. They ski groomers as well or better than my 184 mantra's did, and are rediculously stable at speed. In the little bit of light stuff that I found, they floated great. They were the only Uber fat rockered ski that i've been on that didn't get the least bit squirrley at speed.

from what i hear about the JJ is all good and gunna try to demo it when i go out to colorado in a week maby even a few other

I own 82 czars, and this years VCT in an 82, and while both skis are super fun in soft snow, and handle OK on groomed, If i were to do it all again, which I am next year (bonus of working in a shop), I would most def. go with the JJ for overall performance, and being 115 waist, will float better than, both those, although the VCT is super poppy, and crazy fun in the park.
