Good parks/bc in austria???

so im going to austria next winter and ive been looking around trying to find a few solid resorts for park and backcountry. anyone that has been to austria and the surrounding area (france, switzerland, etc), where is somewhere i really shouldnt miss out on?

The best Austrian parks are in Mayrhofen and in Kaprun (Kitzsteinhorn). If you hop over the border and hit Laax you got the top 3 parks in Europe right there.

As for BC, St. Anton im Arlberg is a must. Ischgl is also pretty sweet, huge mountains, lots of pow, no waiting in line. There's resorts all over the place and if you stick to the Swiss-Austrian border you're golden. Andermatt, which is in the center of Switzerland, is ridiculous for pow.

Kitzsteinhorn has best park in my opinion but there's no pipe I think, only quarter

And about BC, Verbier is best in swis(and it has great park) and it's very close to france resorts witch are great for BC tho like chamonix(I think a best place for BC in europe)and chambery etc...

In austria there are only two resorts witch can be in rang with those swis and france resorts,Krippenstein and St. anton

i am from ischgl so dont mind my uncritic attitude towards it. but the bc is def one of the best out there, a lot of tracks without hiking. and WITH hiking, man, i can tell you, endless, just endless.

the guy that made the park in mayrhofen is now in ischgl, the park setup is like that (it takes some time to build it, the mountain isnt putting too much money in a fast setup-setup ;)) but its like that, normally its shaped every day, and from february to the beginning of may its normally finished.

the high res version should be readable, ask me on abbreviations

Kitz has a Pipe ... Not the best one, but it is ok.

And if you are around the area of the Kitzsteinhorn, also visit Saalbach-Hinterglemm! Its a fucking snowhole. They are in the next valley over our mountain, but have approx. 1,5m more snow then us, if it snows. I want to add Silvretta Nova- they have a good Park and also massive varieties for BC (its on the Border to Switzerland.

And of course like the others said ... Mayrhofen, St. Anton, Laax, Chamonix, Verbier.

I am also in the same situation of finding a place to ski with good BC and a sick park!!! I spent the 05 season in Zell am See and did a few days on the glacier at Kitz and skiied for a week in saalbach/ hinterglem!! Kitz is awsome, but im looking at somewhere else this season to mix it up.

I have been looking at Flachauwinkl.Kleinarl , does anyone have any info on the area?

I am from Melbourne, Australia and have an English passport and want to work over their again over my uni holdidays so dec 2008 till end of feb 2009.

Or should i just stay where i was again in the europa sport region????

has to have an awsome party scene

you might struggle to find a job for only half the season, most people want employees for the whole season, if you have contacts tho you'll be ok

Ischgl, St Anton and Andermatt has epic terrain and as such tends to be full of gnarly freeriders,

Laax, Mayrhofen kill it for park

Then you have espace killy, 3 vallees, verbier etc for all round terrain, although they tend to be full of idiots and gapers.

alright thanks alot guys, that really helps. i already looked at a few of those places but most of them i had never heard of. and a pipe is not all that important to me, cuz im absolutely awful riding pipe. oh and what about heli-skiing? i know its illegal in austria but do you know anywhere close that does it?

heliskiing is legal in some federal states, some shots in freeski movies are shot in the ski resort of st.anton, and its truly heliskiing. i think its legal in vorarlberg (silvretta nova, one part of the resort arlberg/st.anton, diedamskopf, damüls), but sure as hell illegal in tirol (ischgl, the rest of st.anton/arlberg, mayrhofen, sölden, kaunertal, hintertux)

dont no about switzerland

Heli-skiing is illegal in switzerland, but it can be done illegally in some places. It's legal in Italy so you could easily hop accross the border to Süd-Tirol to get some heliskiing.

Or go all the way to Alagna for some serious heliskiing.

you can heliski out of zermatt and verbier in switzerland but you get dropped on the italian side. the best heliskiing in the alps is to be had in valgrisenche italy (aosta valley). most of the others are run for the benefit of fat, rich doctors and lawyers and as a reult you end up skiing 10 degree glaciers. stunning scenery, yes, epic lines, no.

if you want to ski with a heli-op that appreciates fresh shit like snowboarding and newschool freeride skiing, you must hit up valgrisenche. for instance, when i was last there, we skied the huge face lookers left.

my brother lived in austria for a year and ive gone twice, if your near innsbruck the best park 10 minutes drive from the city is nordpark, here i met russ henshaw before he blew up, thats where he trained cause they have a prime jump, killer halfpipe and like 3 good rails.. really all you need and a wicked fast lift so you can hit the jump like 100 times in a day. the other place i went to was mayrhofen, fuckin sweet place, one of the biggest resorts ive ever been to. Laax is always a good call too, and you can also hit up lech, did a comp there, liked it quite a bit... anyways man your gonna have a fuckin rad time cause austria is my favorite place to ski in the world, good vibes everywhere, good skiing and good people.
