Good out west ski college

i know there are already threads on this but not really what i want. can anyone give me some suggestions on a good college out west. i have a 3.99 gpa and i'm a junior. and i'll probably get a good sat/act score (i'm procrastinating on them)so i want a good scholastic school. but i just want a college thats reputable but still has a good party scene. and as close as possible to a good mountain. all i want is to be able to get to a good mountain when it dumps like crazy the night before.
 
with a 3.99 you can basically go anywhere near a mountain.

University of Washington is like 50 minutes from snoqualmie (ranked 12th best park in North America)

1 hour 20 minutes from Stevens Pass (real dope park and really good when it dumps)

really sick campus and pretty much right in seattle

 
i'm realy not lookin for an amazing park. i don't see myself gettin out until pow days and then i'll be in the backcountry. i'm hopin somewhere either for colorado, utah, or california schools
 
youd probly get into utah idk how close that is to snowbird and alta but those are awesome for powder
 
take advantage of that gpa you got...

maybe colorado college? im pretty sure its a private college and pretty prestigous (sp)
 
U of U

CU Boulder is tight, and has a good party scene, but it's a little drive to the mountains. lots of choices tho (copper, vail, breck, abasin, keystone, loveland, eldora)
 
with that high of a gpa, most western colleges near good skiing are kind of a waste(unless you go into some special program, maybe medical stuff) From my limited knowledge, the majority of good schools in the west are at least 2-5 hours away from good skiing. In the east, Darthmouth is close to middle vt/nh resorts, and of course there are the boston schools with a longer drive
 
MSU. You have a pretty decent school with three ski areas/ resorts within an hour ( Bridger, Big Sky, Moonlight), and epic BC everywhere.
 
westminster....20 minutes from park city. good scholastics there as well. smaller but im stoked to go there.
 
UNR, its in reno, great urban, 30 minutes from the best skiing you'll ever do. Squaw, alpine, northstar, boreal. One hour gets you to Heavenly or Sierra. One and a half to Kirkwood. And all holy mammoth is only like 2-2.5 hours away.

party scene is super chill too.
 
if you actually want to get a decent education:

University of Washington

University of Utah

University of Colorado

University of Nevada - Reno

Western Washington

Montana State

University of British Columbia

Don't know if you want small schools, but there are a bunch of liberal arts schools that are good too.

Puget Sound, Lewis and Clark, Reed, Seattle U, Portland, Colorado College

No offense to schools like Western, but they are not even close to the same caliber education wise are some of the others listed above. They are awesome for skiing, but going to college is about just that - School. Don't skimp on your education. You'll be able to ski the rest of your life. Make sure you get a good education now.

 
ya its 1 hour 40 minutes to breck, key, etc. from CC and they have good stuff. party scene would be better at CU
 
U of Utah is a legit ski school. Colorado College is pretty selective but it sounds like you've got the numbers to get in. I'd go U of U since you are a lot closer to skiing than at CC.
 
i keep getting told by my counselors that u of u isnt that good, and that i shud check out westminster and utah valley state or something?
 
theres montana state in bozeman and university of montana. i go to university of montana in missoula. go to MSU if you want really good skiing (bridger and big sky right there). if you want decent skiing (local hill snowbowl is sent from hell, but theres a few really sick areas in driving distance), a better social scene and a little better education, come to UM.

Since this is your college education i thought bold would be appropriate. Those are the schools i chose from last year thinking the exact same thing. Western is a pile i went visited people go there to ski and not get an education its not a good school top school don't go there.

Correct me if i'm wrong but

The University Of Montana should be added to that list

I wouldn't suggest The University of Puget Sound you would have to look at it but it didn't seem interested in the mountains.

My Favs were Reno, Western Washington, And Montana State
 
ungnar/unr is pretty sweet

im going there in a couple years if i keep my gpa up

its like 45minuets to an hour from northstar squaw boreal and pretty much tahoe

plus reno is pretty chill town and there are mad parties

i dont even go to college and ive been to like 6 keggers this year
 


westminster in salt lake city, 7 world class resorts within 30

minutes of campus, and they have programs just for skiers where

you can spend 70+ days on the slopes

how is U of U as far as out-of-state people go? cause I've heard it's kind of a commuter school since a lot of people that go there are from SLC
 
I was so stoked to go to Reed until i found out it's the most liberal fucking school in the country. Academics there kick ass (3.8ish average high school gpa or some shit) but tooo many fuckin liberal whiney bitches!
 
no offence to people who attend or are looking at these schools (I go to one of them too), but most of these schools are really not up to your acedemic standard(assuming you do well on sats), your most likely gonna have a decent drive between good skiing and good schools. Someone said tahoe/uc davis, thats probably be the best combo listed so far. I cant speak for a few of the schools listed, but I go to Westminster right now, I looked at Colorado College, CU Boulder, and I went to University of Vermont.

westminster is better than U of U, also whoever said mammoth is 2.5 hours from reno might want to add an hour
 
University of Montana would ok, but the skiing around there is sub-par to mot other schools.

Regarding Puget Sound, I actually go there.....

1 hour 20 minutes from my door to Crystal, about the same time to Snoqualmie/Alpental, plus there is a pretty good amount of skiers here. Not like a school like CU or MSU, but enough that there is always people going up.

Great education, decent sized city, good party scene for a smaller school (~2,600 kids), my biggest class has been about 35 people, sometimes Ive had classes of 8, nice campus, and UPS grads have one of the highest med/dental school acceptance rates in the country...that is why I came here.

I am from Boulder too....my high school was one minute from the CU campus. and IMO, skiing (excluding park skiing...which I could careless about) in washington blows away the skiing in CO. I ski so much more powder in WA than I ever did in CO.

Visiting the campuses you are thinking about attending...I am very glad I did. I hate some of the schools I visit (L&C, SU). I also wanted a small school, so that narrowed my choices a lot.
 
it's not that selective, i got in, and my highschool gpa was mediochre (3.3 non weighted), but my act/sats were really good. he needs to post what he got on those, cause that makes a big difference.

and the best school of what iggy said is either University of Washington or University of British Columbia (depending on what you want to do). both are HUGE schools though.

i wanted to go to UBC but didn't get in. the campus is so nice there.
 
then don't come to co our snow doesn't quite compare in amount to utah or the PNS as for colorado college its FAR from skiing and in the evangelical capital of the world but both DU and Cu are good schools
 
well my grades are similar (3.95 gpa and 30 on ACT) and im headin out to boulder next year for engineering, and they have a pretty decent program like top 20 or somethin. i kno boulder isnt crazy prestigious or anythin but i wanted a big school out west with a good party scene and in close proximity to the mountains, and boulder kinda fit most of that for me... idk if that helps that much but just thought id put in some insight cuz r similar grades.
 
im a junior too and im from around syracuse i have a 3.7 and go to easily the hardest catholic high school in new york state. im lookin at boulder cuz my cousins go there and my uncle teaches medical school there so dont think i should have a problem getting in but i might do U of U cuz im doin nols this summer and nols is through u of u so i will pretty much get to skip freshman year of college
