I now theres been a wack a smack load of 'whats you favourite movie?' threads but the drizz is some movies arent our favourites but they are still wikkid cool. So just list em dooders and I might drop by the video store and check em out.

I'll start with Blazing Saddles, Private Parts and the Good The Bad And The Ugly.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (sp?). Great movie, and it's based on a true story so that makes it better. Just my opinion though.

^dude it was not terrible. it was incredible and should have won best picture (it was nominated). that movie is fucking packed full of complexities. i've watched probably 15 times and i still haven't completely disected it. did you completely understand it? probably not. its narration isn't exactly linear and there really isn't a main character other than charlie company. its certainly a different movie and my most favorite of all time.

alpine cowboy is so right. Thin Red Line was/is a great movie, I think it's more true depiction of war than any other war movie ever.

 
Not quite right on; the best depiction of war ever was Full Metal Jacket, which someone mentioned earlier. If I'm picking the greatest film of all time, it's Casablanca.

^ i disagree. full metal jacket is an incredible movie, but the thin red line captures the ambience of war far better. not to mention the issues addressed are far more profound. its a different style of movie though, you can't argue that, its going to come down to personal preference of appeal.

as for casablanca being the best film of all time i strongly disagree. its classic yes. its a fucking good movie. i the storyline is about as classical as you can get. but its not much more than that. i couldn't possibly believe that you JD, would find casablanca to be a better movie than citizen kane. which in my opinion beats the living piss out of it.

Citizen Kane is on my top 10, but for the sake of pure enjoyability, Casablanca beats it. For peripheral characters, especially Louis, Ilsa, and Sam, Casablanca wins again. The acting was perfect, there wasn't a bad performance in the whole film. There wasn't even a mediocre one. For having the best AND most memorable lines of any movie EVER, it deserves its accepted title as the greatest Hollywood movie ever. And you have to remember, it's being made during the war, so it has a great amount of social relevance. If you want to look for deeper meanings, there are metaphorical characters throughout, starting with Rick. It's the ideal film. A lot of people would argue that CK was, too, but I never enjoyed watching it to the same extent.

jd, well argued. but i suppose it just comes down to personal preference. i like a movie thats a bit gritty, orignial and different - exactly what ck is. i don't like hollywood and casablanca is the quintessential hollywood film, its on my top 15 list, but its too polished to ever come close to my number one spot.
