good mini dv cam

ok i want a good mini dv cam for capturing skiing and skateboarding. my dad can use it for alot of his church stuff and other projects. anyway im looking for a high quality but not professional minidv thats small but still great quality. im looking at the canon optura 300 which looks really awesome and i found it online for $665 and its a $1000 camera. anyway do any of you know anything about this camera or any other good ones for thta stuff? i was looking at the gl-2 but it's too expensive and from the looks of it quite large. your help would be greatly appreciated

 
well now im thinking the canon optura si is the one because it's better quality than the 300

 
no... it really isnt. the opturas are good cameras man. great for the money. you should chek out ebay though

Yes I would recommend a Sony TRV series. I had the TRV11 and it worked great. It was a little less than a grand but that was 2 years ago, probably a good deal cheaper now.

If you meant the Canon Optura Xi (not si) then I would definately recommend it. Just make sure you leave money for accessories like a fisheye and wide angle.

Yeah - I got my GL1 on eBay and I love it. Definately have a look around for a used GL1, GL1, VX1000 or VX2000. If you're serious about this then you'll want to upgrade to something like this eventually anyway, and I'm pretty sure all 4 have full-auto modes so you can use all the features as and when you learn them and get better.
