Good mics?

I want to record an LP to send to a local record company, and I also want to be able to record actual instruments to make beats with. What's a good microphone to use?

This will be for all purposes; voice, recording instruments, and live performances.

I really don't know what a good microphone price range is so a decent one would be ok too, as long as it's not too expensive.

i would guess a really good stage vocal mic or a condensor mic. what kind of music are you talking? because recording punk or rock is going to be way less demanding than something with lots of instrumental parts

just get a shure SM57 or 58. good quality, pretty inexpensive, and extremely widely used.

a mixture of music. It'd be a lot for rap, but also for some rock and reggae. Our genre switches from song to song.
