Good media laptop thats not apple

i know apple is the best for creating or editing photos/video/music. but i always have a hard time operating them because im so used to windows, is there any windows laptop that compares
 
Just make the change to apple. You will not be sorry. The real fix is getting a two-button mouse (the mighty mouse). That alone solved a lot of my beefs with PC to apple switch.
 
Go with an apple.. in 1 week, you'll be a pro. I just made the switch a few months ago. I'll never go back.
 
apple. hands down. no other way to go. plus if u run a mac i might be able to get u final cut pro....
 
hahah he wants a PC counterpart to an Apple and you recommend a 'super cheap emachines laptop'. talk about wasting your money, just get an Apple and be happy.
 
when i started school this semester we got mac laptops from our school.

you will get used to it in a week.

seriously i will probably never ever buy a windows computer ever again
 
If you really want to not get an apple you can get a Voodoo or an Alienware but they will cost you a shit load.
 
Wait till next week, once the holiday sales kick in there will be some super cheap laptops. Also, you should wait till the end of Dell's sales quarters, they always have rediculous deals at the end of the quarter. This summer got my parents a 1500 laptop for 750.
 
im pretty confused why people keep suggesting different kinds of pc's...you can get whatever brand you want, the best specs or the shittiest specs...you're still running windows and windows blows, as made evident by nearly every post in this thread...there's a reason apple gets massive amounts of accolades on their OS, the software that comes STANDARD with the OS, etc. etc., plus the whole not prone to viruses thing doesnt hurt either....5 different friends of mine all used to rip on apples til they started messing around with my powerbook..2 years later all 5 are mac users and swear they'll never go back...once you switch you'll just see why mac's are better
 
if you've ever used any mac app you would know that a simple macos update can fuck your shit up so bad. Once you switch you'll be like damn, I could have bought two pc's and a scooter for the same amount of money I spent on my crappy ass power book and apple care.
 
an os update with a problem isn't something thats exclusive to windows or the mac os?! it can happen on either side...very rarely does it happen on apple's side of things, and if it does its corrected nearly right away by the means of another update...but as i said, it happens very very rarely...as far as it happening on the pc side of things i couldnt say cause i dont use them if i dont have to, although i have grown up using both platforms nearly my entire life and have always been far more happy with apples vs. pc's...i've also worked for apple for 3 years now as a campus rep so im pretty sure im well versed in mostly any problem you could ever have with an apple...but hey if you wanna rock out on some compaq's with a faggio scooter then thats your own problem...it sounds like someone has a problem with apples :( ..but you must be right, they must suck seeing as how everyone else in this thread has said how tight they are. if the person who posted this has any questions feel free to PM me if you dont wanna hear any bullshit from phrosty
 
^yea listen to him he's a hot shit computer guy. I mean all I can talk about is practical experence, sure yea it's bullshit. He's been working with apples his whole life. listen to him.
 
haha practical experience, i'm pretty sure i said i've grown up using both for almost my entire life, and im 22, so i probably have a little practical experience as well...and knowing lots about a product doesn't make me a 'hot shit computer guy', im just trying to help someone out and im just trying to share some knowledge so he has some real info to go on rather than being another person who simply says 'pc's suck apples rule' which is fine to say but im trying to back up my opinion and statements as well
 
^^^ something we hear often, and i understand your argument, but when you consider how much you get standard with a mac and the software built into the OS, then you see how much of it is available as an 'upgrade' in a pc, and you break each system down spec by spec, its actually a pretty good deal. you might pay more for an apple initially but you get more with an apple as well.
 
i might have just been looking at high non mac prices, but from what i saw, i didnt pay much more for my iBook then comparable non-mac laptops
 
ok I dropped 2500 on my power book, no pc tops were even in that price range. all that really matters to me is hd space, processor, and ram. (And hd space doesn't really matter that much becasue you can never get enough.) The only reason I bought an apple is for fcp suite stuff. I was very dumb. I should have gotten a pc with avid. It would have been just as good and it would have saved me $800-1000. You've been using macs your whole life. So have I, but I've never owned one untill my powerbook. And they simply don't live up to the hype, that's all there is too it. I also had an ipod that broke. Everytime I go to the apple store for help it's at least a 90 minute wait at the genious bar.

I know this will start off the eternal debate between Mac and PC, but what the hell. But the above statement isnt true.

The fact of the matter is... When it comes to video editing, Mac is not better then PC, nor is PC better then Mac. The software is what really counts. And most high-end software suites and packages are available in both Mac and PC verisons.

On the hardware end for video editing, you should have a gig of ram, a pretty hefty hard drive (DV video comes in at about 4 megs per second), a good video card, and a medium to high end processor. After that its just software.

But of course, its not that black and white, as with anything. Both Mac and PC have their strengths and weaknesses.

If you want to get some good suggestions I'd suggest being more specfic about your desired use, skill level, what you hope to eventually move up to (if at all).
 
no pretty much not as good at all. Apple is unbeatable. Just goto a store and ask for a powerbook demo....and then try to buy an XP machine hahaha
 
you people are so wacky....

just find out what specs you want, like how fast you think you want your computer to be.

then buy the computer that has those specs and is the cheapest. if its an apple, then there you go, if its a sony, or whatever...do you see what i am saying? apple isnt that much superior, they just have amazing branding/marketing.
 
^^^decent argument but you're not taking into account the OS (windows vs. tiger), the lack that mac's are HIGHLY unlikely to get viruses, the built in apps and features in tiger, etc etc. ...apple is 1st and foremost a software company who also happen to make incredible hardware, and of course lots of it is marketing and branding, that stuff is evident in any successful company...but you wouldnt have over 90% of creative professionals using mac's if the hype weren't true...again, if the person who originally made this thread has any questions feel free to PM me and ill answer any you have, hope i helped you in the right direction
 
damn Phrosty, you spent $2500 on a power book?? I'm getting a 15 inch screen power book for like $1500.
 
I got a decent spec Dell pretty cheap, I got 1Gb RAM free, the screen is nice and it runs Photoshop quickly. Stop worrying about your equipment so much and just put it to use.
