Any suggestions that ARN'T rediculously expensive?

Need to get a new lens, since it seems like concert photography is going to be a huge constant for me.

lol this is actually the lens I have right now. I'm trying to upgrade just a bit more, because this is honestly becoming a huge thing for me.

and honestly, I don't think price is going to be much of an issue if it isn't like more than $600 or so.

I recently got an internship on top of 2 regular gigs, so my dad might actually pay for it.

The only real upgrade you could do that would be worth it is the canon 70-200 2.8 is USM II. But that's going to set you back a couple thousand. What aren't you satisfied with in regaurds to the Tamron? Autofocus speed? Sharpness?

mix of both, mainly autofocus speed. and then there's almost always a tad bit of blur.

bleh sorry i forgot about being fast I got stuck up in reading the thread and was under the impression he just needed a telephoto for some reason

You don't really shoot a concert at 17mm's unless your in the media pit and unless your shooting stadiums which I highly doubt OP is then that wouldn't be very helpful. Canon 70-200 2.8 runs about $1000 used, that with a good tripod should be fine.

My bad I only read the OP, I've used a tripod in smaller venues and didn't have many problems but again I don't know what OP is shooting. What about the Canon 135mm F2L? About as fast as your going to get. I hate to say it but you might just have to push the ISO and take out the noise in post.

Get primes. Not sure what camera you're using but 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm will have you covered for concert environments.

Might also be nifty to get a tokina 11-16 for those wide moments even though it's 2.8 it should work fine

Duh. I didn't mean to say that it was. I was simply implying that moving your physical location in place of the ability to zoom may be a necessary sacrifice for lens speed and sharpness.

a nice speedlight and a 2.8 fisheye seems pretty "standard" among concert photography...

I found a Mint Rokkor 58mm f/1.4 at my grandpas house. I adapted it to my t2i and its awesome! Amazing bokeh, very fast, and very sharp.

Depends on the concert / genre of the band; the stuff JL shoots, 100%. More mellow bar type scenarios, a long lenses / shallow depth of field would do better. Also, a lot of musicians hate when you use flash; again this would most likely be with a smaller venue.
