Good idea or terrible mistake?

So I've got the chance to pick up some 179 k2 HB's from 2009 super cheap. The trick is whether or not they'll be to small. I'm roughly 6'1-6'2 and around 165-170, I would be looking to mount them around if not at center and use them for BC pow, kickers, pillows, lines, etc. Any input is much appreciated.
 
may i ask what you call "super cheap" ?
cause people tend to have very different opinions about this .....
 
Ya I'm allready riding on some 185 jj's that iv'e had for two seasons. I assumed the hellbents may be a tad heavier and ski a little shorter on hard pack.
 
I know collin collins is a fairly big dude and he rocked the bents for the past few years, I'd be interested to know if he's on the 179's or 189's
 
I think that they might feel a bit to small and not be stable enough especially if you are hitting BC jumps.
 
Keep in mind that K2 skis run a bit longer than other brands, a 179 will probably be more like a 182, which would be just fine for your size, as don't weigh a lot

Yes they'll probably feel shorter, they have a lot of rocker, but they are still a great buy.
 
Should be fine, I have the 179s and i am 6', 165. They do feel short on hardpack but they are still manageable, but that isn't what you are riding them for, they are plenty stable in the pow. I have mine mounted -2 from center if that makes a difference
 
I have the 189s and they are great for huge cliffs and charging, but they are quite heavy when getting spinny and building jumps. I definitely wish they were a little shorter/lighter sometimes. For that price you made a great choice.
 
haha, I have some charging skis. The 179's would be for serious BC butters, pillow busting, etc. Thanks for all the reply's!
 
Yeah its borderline, the price is the dealbreaker though. 200 for hellbents in plastic is ridiculous..
 
damn i wish i had that deal just to have some fun days on the east with them.

buy em and if you have to, im sure you could find a way to trade them for 189s on here or some other ski forum
 
haha, they'll be fine dude, k2 indeed runs a bit longer than other brands, 200$ is a tight deal !
 
nope way too small, they will be like skiblades on you, so you might as well do the right thing give me the $200 deal, thanks.
 
The 2009 HB 179 is about 184cm, so it will be like your JJ except wider (and more rocker). At that price, definitely get them. You could sell them on craigslist for 400ish right now (everyone wants new skis before Christmas) and buy 189s if you really want them.
