Good guitar players

well there's one about jimi hendrix right now if you didnt know about that one, but some greats are David Gilmour of course hes my fave, Page was amazing, im really starting to get into treys older stuff, zappa, Derek Trucks, Cinninger from umphreys, For people who say Jerry Garcia is the greatest guitar player ever, i disagree, i think clapton is also overrated, however the solo on while my guitar gently weeps is pure genius, Halen is very good, i dont really like how Steve Vai always has that damn fan blowing in his face, Neil Young is very original gotta love him, joe walsh is the shit, Stevie Ray as well, and Steve Howe from Yes. Thats basically my rant on guitar players for now

Jeff Loomis and Michael Amott

If you don't know who they are and you think you know who the best guitarist is, then you're clueless. I'm not saying it's either of them, but anyone with an opinion on "who is the best" or "who are the best" should at least have heard of these guys.

mike eizeinger(sp?) of incubus has a lot of talent that i think goes unnoticed in most of their songs

Clapton overrated...he was really good, all his music pure genius. Crossroads, Cocaine, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Layla...all great peices of music, and all of his acoustic stuff too, Old Love is incredible as well as the acoustic version of Layla, as for people interested in acoustic guitar playing, get Paco De Lucia...he is really fast...incredibly fast, puts everyone to shame technically (including Vai and satriani) and he actually plays good music. as for the metal guitarist (Steve Vai), I recently saw a video of steve vai playing some pretty cool lenny(an SRV song)-like melody live, and i was impressed that he was actually able to put feeling into a song. Then i heard the same guitar melody in a hendrix jam. i think i'm justified in saying that speed metal is terribly uncreative...

David Gilmour's distortion guitar playing was incredible...

Page...the best in my opinion.

Zappa...he ate someones poop.

Neil Young...not very technical but incredible song writing.

Stevie Ray...incredible.

Steve Howe...great riffs.

Jimi Hendrix...what to say? live, hendrix is unlike any other major guitarist. he was truly an improvisor, much more so than clapton. Also, his technique and style are impossible to replicate, and his studio stuff is unconscious (see electric ladyland - how anyone could ever be able to create that album is beyond me). However, hendrix was limited in style, much like clapton, SRV, and most other guitarists. and kirk hammett, while being very good technically, just doesn't cut it (for me) when it comes to song-writing and style

Rory Gallagher...a great irish guitarist from the 70's, played great blue's music, puts lots of soul into his playing (Similar to Beck, Hendrix, Page, Ect.)

those are the guitarists i enjoy listening to.

Thomas Erak

Alex Lifeson

Stevie Ray Vaughn

Al Di Meloa

John McLaughlin

only a few of my favorites

If you've seen John Mayer live, you'd know he's a blues guitarist easily up to SRV's level. I've been a musician since I was 5, and my dad the same, so It's not like I saw it and was in awe of some stupid guitar tricks.

you guys have yet to say trey...he is obviously up there on the list. duane allman, derek trucks, god theres so many i think rolling stone had a top 100 list if im not mistakin.

I nearly flammed you but then realized it was you. I didn't recognize your icon at first ahhahaha.

ASSHOLE!

i agree they inovate and Jeff's solos are realllllly fast

with those i must add alexi laiho, dimebag, randy rhoads and steve vai

Kirk Hammett

Tony Iommi

Jimmy Page

Sanata

Slash

Eric Clapton

Jimmi Hendrix

Angus Young

Halen

Zack Wylde

kerry king, jeff hanneman, dimebag darrell, tom morello, eddie van halen, teppei teranishi, yngwie malmsteen

i saw BB King in january. his guitar playing isnt what it was but he's still a fucking amazing performer. also yngue (sp?) malmsteen is fucking incredible. stone from pearl jam has amazing rythms and a sick sound to ski to (Im thinking 1/2 full or blood) jimi's obviously sick as well (specially with the Isley Brothers) as page and all those other famous dudes. satriani's good but a lot of it just lack's human feeling. I saved my very favorite for last. the underrated unknown ALVIN LEE. He played with ten years after at woodstock and fucking ROCKS still today. check out his SICK guitar at www.gibsoncustom.com

no one said keller williams, also i agree mike from incubus is incredible, maybe one of the best soloist right now, and of course adam jones and justin chancellor

joe satriani, by far the best actual guitar player, hes so good that kirk hammett from metallica took lessons from him

He's amazing and probably one of the best as you said, but giving Kirk Hammett lesson's really isn't that big of an accomplishment.

personally, i hate yngwie(sp?), and with a passion.

Robert Randolph hasn't been mentioned yet. I know he doesn't play straight up guitar, but he's a fucking sav.

dude, mike McCreedy is the lead for Pearl Jam, but stone is an awsome guitarist as well, and is an excellent song writer, i saw them this summer at the gorge, best concert i've ever been to.

and you guys can say what you want, but Cobain was as influential as anyone, he may not have been as talented, but he was a great writer and had good feel. David Gilmour is great, and is underrated, not usually being mentioned with the top ones as he should be. also Brian May, from Queen, very underrated
