just wondering what poeple on here thought. i have to pick pretty much any documentary and write a critical analysis if it, so i want it to be of something actually interesting. open to pretty much anything (can't do farenheit 911 or inconvienent truth cause we saw them already)

Gunner Palace, its a really cool documentary about this guy who follows and documents a squadron who lives in a partly delapidated former palace once belonging to saddam. provides really good insight into the everyday life of an american soldier in iraq, highly worth checking out.

Here are some of my favorites--all of which are classics:

Touching the Void-the worst mountaineering expedition that anyone ever survived. Would you cut the rope if it meant killing your friend and saving yourself?

Dog Town and Z-Boys-The birth of modern skate culture in the 70's.

Spellbound-the intense, real-life experience of the National Spelling Bee as seen through the eyes of eight young spellers.

Bowling for Columbine-Michael Moore tackles America's obsession with firearms

Roger and Me-Michael Moore tackles layoffs from the GM plant in his hometown, Flint, MI.

Hoop Dreams-follows inner city kids aspiring to be in the NBA.

Super Size Me--Morgan Spurlock eats a lot of McDonalds.

Any film by Errol Morris:

Fog of War-Former Secretary of Defense McNamara's thoughts on war and why it's f'ed up.

Thin Blue Line--Racism and so-called justice in Texas.

Fast, Cheap and Out of Control--this one is wacky, but I like it. There's really no way to describe it and do it justice. It's about a lion tamer, a mole rat researcher, a robotics specialist and a gardener.

I'd say Ken Burn's "Jazz" but that's like 14 or some hour long or more episodes in whole.

Maybe 91 words for snow,

I forget what it's called exactly but it's about these 2 french brothers making a documentary on a firehouse on 9|11 and to their suprise planes fly into the twin towers, it shows inside the buildings, when the plane flys into the tower, and one of them inside while it collapses down onto them. its pretty crazy and the brothers reunite at the end its pretty good.

Came across it on youtube, it's called "ecsatsy rising", it's an NBC dateline documentary but I thought it was very interesting and unbiased (rare nowadays)

thanks for the help so far. i still have a few days to decide so i'll see if there's any more suggestions

Who Killed the Electric Car? - self explanatory, it is well done.

Sketches of Frank Gehry - an interesting portrait of an important modern architect, if you're into that.

another cool one, Control Room. its a danish documentary (in english) based on how the different media statiosn portray the wair in iraq and american peoples perception of the war, including american perceptions regarding al jazeera. super interesting

"the day the music died", a documentary on the shithole that is the modern day music industry. great documentary, i loved it so much.
