ok so my parents are on my ass about looking at colleges to get into, i have 3.7 gpa and got a 1650 on my sats...each time...how weird, but anyways, im aplying to boulder and denver, but UNH as a saftey(my whole family went there and what not) but im looking for more western schools near the mountains, colorado, utah, californa, w/e, any suggestions for schools you like would be appreciatied

check out colorado college. its a really good small liberal arts school and your gpa is pretty much in the right range. i actually applied early there

hey man, i just put in my application for Colby (i went early) tonight, check that school out- mad close to skiing.

im gonna say not to apply to colorado college cuz i need to get in there and more people applying=less chance of getting in

yea good point. haha on second dont apply to colorado college, i heard its awful and that theres no good skiing anywhere in colorado. it pretty much sucks

CC sucks. Yeah the actual college is cool but im just gonna say that colorado springs sucks balls. My parents lived there and they said it sucked. Its a funky town

check out some Canadian colleges like UBC or U of Alberta.....Canadian schools are like 1/4-1/2 the price of US ones and you don't have to write a SAT to get in.

They are only a lot cheaper if you are Canadian, otherwise you pay 2-3x tuition because you must pay foreign student fees. Look into UBC if you want a good school to ride at though.

Colorado Springs is one of the worst cities (if it can be called that) in the world. If you wanna be right near Tahoe try UNR. I dont think it's that great of a school tho.

dude i hope you get in. we need some more freeskiers up here and we are damn close to the 'loaf. it's snowing there right now!

what size school are you looking for? Lots of liberal arts school around that would be sick, if not, the typical CU, UW, UU, UNR, etc would fit the bill best.

i go to western state. About 39 minutes from crested butte and within 3 hours from about every other resort in Colorado. Parties are pretty lame but the skiing will definetely be worth it

What are you looking to major in? That should be top priority, followed by location, especially for the amount of dough it costs. What the fuck is the point of going to a shitty school in the mountains if you're just going to graduate and still be washing dishes when you get done? Put the 2-4 years in wherever you need to and then move to Whis or anywhere out west and make bank the rest of your life.

i applied to CC and colby and got rejected by both. i had a 3.8 and 29 act score and they were like nope, sry. they r both mad hard to get into at this point.

if u wanna go to a good state university look at CU Boulder or UVM. Those 2 are probly your best bets. i got into both and ended up goin to UVM. definatly apply as early as u can to both cuz they give out more scholarship money early.

if u wanna go to a liberal arts school look at lewis and clark in portland Oregon and St Mikes in burlington. they r both small and not at the top so u have a solid chance of getting in.

u can definatly apply to the higher schools but acceptance is gonna get even harder this year cuz there are even more people applying.

good luck. but do everything early. do early anction if u can. u have a better chance of gettin in and more money is sent your way.

University of Colorado at Boulder is all you need to know. Best place you'll ever be if you get in here. Boulder is such a fun town and the mountains are sick. AND it's a great school.

You know this already, but searching for colleges will provide lots of results.

You

seem to have pretty good scores (not sure with the new SAT scores, I

was before they changed it) so here is the whole list of colleges I

would look at with at least a decent education:

Bigger Schools

University of Colorado (Boulder only, fuck the springs)

University of Utah

University of Nevada-Reno

University of Washington

Montana State University

Western Washington University

University of British Columbia

University of California-Davis

Not Huge...

University of Denver (decent size)

Colorado College (again, fuck the spring, but a bit different on a small liberal arts campus)

Reed

Lewis & Clark

Seattle University

Seattle Pacific University

Pacific Lutheran University

University of Puget Sound

University of Portland

Westminster

Think

that covers everything about. Each school will be very different, so

you should really try and narrow down want you want. These are what I

would consider:

School and Class Size

Location - Big City vs. Small City vs. Suburb vs. Small Town. Visiting helps.

Education - some of the schools above are top tier, others not.

Major - Again, some schools have better programs in specific majors. Find out

Skiing (key one eh?) - Park, Pipe, Pow, cheap pass, drive time, crowds, options, etc, etc. Lots of factors here.

Cost - this could matter, I do not know. Some schools have better financial aid that others.

There are a ton more. Just something to think about. Every school above is sweet in their own way, just need to figure out which is best for you. Each one is pretty close (if not extremely close like Utah) to pretty amazing skiing.

My little bit now: I was born in raised in Boulder, went to high school down the street from CU, and probably would have gone there except that I really wanted to get out of Boulder after 18 years there. Great town, lots of parties and hot girls, good education, skiing is cheap and pretty close.

My next two choices were Puget Sound and UW. I liked UW a lot, but it was just too big, so I chose UPS (2600 kids) which is great because small class sizes work best for me. I can't imagine being in a class of 400. My BIGGEST class this year is 17. Skiing here is great, I ski way more powder than CO and the terrain is better, but expensive (My senior year of HS, I had a Eldora, Copper/Winter Park, and the 5 mountain pass for the same amount of money as I pay for my single ski pass here), and the mountain I ski at has no park. So there are trade offs everywhere.

I would say figure out school size first, as it is the easiest way to direct you. Then go from there. Hopefully this wasn't just rambling and helped a bit.

Let me know if you have any questions about school in the PNW or CO.

yeah, thats a very legitimate list above. being from seattle i watched all my buddies go to UW and such because its close, all those other PNW schools. seattle you is small but expensive, good education. if you don't mind the big class sizes, go with UW. same factors otherwise mostly. i go to montana state in bozeman and am thinking of transferring to UBC to have a little bit bigger city feel while still living in a chill environment thats very close to skiing, grouse, freemore, etc, whistler primarily and the surrounding area. but its all personal preference really. like he said about the major specific universities for example: engineering programs are very similar at UW and MSU however UW is way more prominent in the business sectors. really depends what you're looking for. guy above made really good points. gotta measure yourself up pretty well throughout the process of applying and decide or even guess what will make you the happiest in the end.

Park City, Brighton, Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, Canyons and Deer valley all within 30 mins of U of Utah. Thats all you need to know.

im lovin the University of Denver, ive skied 10 times so far this year, its got a great reputation, especially if your in business. If you can afford it or get a good enough scholarship, i would highly advise

UW! be a husky! But its a big school, so if you aren't ready for it, it will shock you

but watch out for grant and kohl next year :)
