Has anyone read any good books lately?

I've read a few.

NON FICTION

End of Oil:

A look at the worlds energy economy, hol long it will last and what technology is next.

Stiff:

The secret life of dead bodies (donated to science) and their affect on our every day life.

Into the wild:

Crazy, Crazy, Crazy, look at one young man who had it all but gave up everything to live the life he wanted to.

FICTION

A few books by Dan Brown. Who hasn't read 'The DaVinci Code', He's also got 'Angels and Deamons', 'Deception point', and 'Digital Fortress'.

Just a few ideas if you're looking to pick up a good book.

Does anyone have any recomendations? What are some books you've read lately?

I've heard good things about the following:

'The truth: with jokes'

'Eiger Dreams : Ventures Among Men and Mountains'

'Under the Banner of Heaven : A Story of Violent Faith'

Just finished the Ginger Man one of the most despicable characters i've ever read about but i get along with womanizing drunks

"gai-jin", by James Clavell and "the teachings of Buddha" by someone are preety interesting, if your into easter culture

here are a few of the best books i have read in a while.

Consider the Lobster by David Foster Wallace-collected essays-all of them really intelligent and funny. Especially the one about the Adult Home Video awards and convention in Las Vegas.

Thats right, an intelligent piece written about porn.

or Infinite Jest(way longer and fiction) by DFW as well.

A million little pieces by James Frey. I think Oprah's fat ass may have put this in her book club recently, which is crazy because this book is about one of the most fucked up guys ever who huffs gasoline betweeen hits off his crack pipe It follows everything up to and including his stint in rehab which is interesting as well because he maintains a "FUck Rehab" attitude the whole time he is there.

Shantaram by Gregory David Robets-Guy escapes from jail in australia and flees to bombay and start dealing drugs weapons and passports-True story, good book.

And possibly the best non-fiction book ever written as far as I am concerned.

Mr. Nice- by Howard Marks. Read it.

the razor's edge Somerset Maugham, Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac, The Dan Brown Books, A Star Called Henry by Roddy Doyle, Angelas Ashes and 'Tis by Frank McCourt.

A million little pieces. I just finished reading this book

amazing. everyone should read this and see what shit can do to you

0h, and for the definitive Pablo Escobar story read

Killing Pablo by Mark Bowden.

This has some crazy stories in it, including the one about how he allowed the Columbian Gov. to arrest him on terms that he could be held as the only prisoner in his own jail and the jail staff and guards were appointed by and paid for by Escobar. He also imported his own women into the jail as well as jacuzzi's and TV's and stereo systems.

I think that officially qualifies as gangsta.

Robin Cook is my favorite author. He writes medical thriller stuff, which I love since I'm interested in going into the medical field. I recommend "Coma", "Mortal Fear", "Mutation", and "Seizure". My other favorite author is Stephen King. I'm currently finishing "The Dead Zone", which I'm loving, and I've also read his classics "Christine" and "The Shining", which are great as well. And of course, you've got to read "The Da Vinci Code" if you already haven't!

any american classics authors:mark twain, walt whitman, JFC(last of the mohicansssss!!!), ralphie emerson.

i'm more into classics and non-fiction than things like harry potter and such. i never could get a grasp on the fantasy genre.

In the last year or so...

a bunch of Dan Brown books, but who hasn't

All Quiet on the Western Front, super good WWI novel, also wrote a sweet essay about it (by Erich Maria Remarque)

a whole lot of Dean Koontz books, cause i have like 50 of them in paperbacks in my library, just get one of his bestsellers, because there are so many of his books to pick from

some Lee Child books, i suggest you get some their pretty gnar, mostly about this MP/ex-MP in some of them, super bad-ass dude, i recommend. there aren't too many to pick from here, maybe 10 in all (still coming out though)

Into Thin Air is pretty good

it's about a 1996 expedation to mt. everest. there was a bad storm as many of the teams were summiting causing the deaths of some people.

Going non-fiction; 'A short history of progress', awsome book about how civilization is doomed to fail. Also 'Heavier then Heaven' is awsome if your a Nirvana fan.

Looking at fiction; 'Five people you meet in Heaven' is a classic everybody should read. 'Motherless Brooklyn' was an awsome mystery book about a guy with turets(sp?) syndrome. 'A Heartbreaking work of Staggering Genius' is a true work of genuis. In fact most books of his are. 'The hobbit' and anything else by Tolkien, including 'The Simirillian'.

I liked Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. A good lengthy read, it took me a little over a month. Oh well, It should have taken way less, but, it didn't.

Sidhartha by Herman Hesse - really interesting book.

Cannery Row by John Steinbeck as well.

The Kite Runner by Khalad Hosseini.

Those are my top five for sure. But really, there are only 4 books there thats how my math skills are.

if you really want to know what its like in iraq right now read The "Last True Story Ill Ever Tell" by John Crawford. the author just got back from the war and writes about all of the shit he went through, its pretty intense

my friends and I made it into high times for bong of the month. It was a hookah made out of a fish tank with fake plants and all and when the smoke came up through one of these treasure chests the lid opened.

Personal Favorite books:

The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe- Basically the ultimate bible to all things LSD and Acid, amazing philosphies.

Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter Thompson- Movie based on, drug haze of searching for the American Dream.

Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk- short stories mixed in with a full story, very disturbing and very good.

Catch-22 by Joseph Heller- A classic WWII book, hilarious and insightful

Choke by Chuck Palahniuk- Strange book, very good

Survivor by Palahniuk again- Very different yet still very good.

That's my favorite list as of now, it changes very frequently because I read a lot.
