I'm extremely bored at the moment and decided to give Dante's Inferno another try again. I figured I should use most of my free time this summer actually reading for a change. So does anyone have any good books that they reccamend reading? I'm looking for kind of deep intellectual stuff, but I also like dragons, mythology, and the like. So a mix of the three would be excellent.

Gimme what you got. And please include a short sparknote about what the book is about.

that was then this is now was a really good book in my opinion, but i did read it as a 13 year old soooooo things might be different
 
In the president's secret service

This book is really good. Each chapter is about a president or something about the secret service. There is a lot of interesting stuff to learn and you can pick it up anywhere and leave off anywhere.

LEARN ABOUT:

How LBJ would fuck chicks in the room next to his wife, how he would start tearing off his clothes in air force one in front of people before he got in his suite

JFK's threesomes and other affairs

Jimmy Carter being an asshole to everyone

tons of other stuff. really great insight into what the presidents were liked away from the public.

Though I've only read a select few, most Stephen King books are great if you're not superstitious and don't take them too seriously. Someone recommended a book called Ishmael in another thread a while back, and it sounded pretty decent. From what I've read, I really enjoy James Patterson's writing as well.

No one is ever too old for the Harry Potter series >.>

Wuthering Heights

Short Synopsis: Not your typical "love/revenge story," Wuthering Heights is the embodiment of romanticism. What does that mean for the reader? It means a fast-paced plotline that is gripping until the end. It means there's plenty of gruesome murder, terrifying rampages, and bloody and downright creepy scenes. Perhaps my favorite book of all-time. Read it.

Anything Nick Hornby writes is solid gold. A lot of his writing is just about day to day life and relationships and what not. simple stuff, great for when you have a long ass plane ride.

 
Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10

A Navy Seal tells the tale of him and his 5 other Seals getting deployed in afghanistan on a recon mission and ends up getting ambushed by about 300 taliban. After being shot multiple times and seriously injured he ends up being the only one surviving the attack and gets stranded in the mountains for a few days. It's an excellent read and I highly recommend it, as it's one of my favorite books.

Right now I'm reading Coming Back Alive; a story about a wild coast guard rescue in Alaska.I read alot of BukowskiDostoevsky is another one of my favorites, particularly Crime and Punishment and The Idiot.Any book about fishing, foraging, gardening, or beekeeping is interesting to me. Pushin' the homestead knowledge.And "The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret & Science of Happiness" is a GREAT BOOK by this Buddhist monk named Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. This book really gives you a new spin on life.Lastly, the Tao Te Ching is a book that is very small, but it takes months to read. Just keeps on giving insights.
 
Ha nice. The Inheritance trilogy is one of my favorite series, along with maximum ride and harry potter (DEATHLY HALLOWS MOVIE HYPE)

that's pretty sick you got a signed copy. i've read each of the books atleast 3-4 times and getting pretty stoked for the last one.

and OP, my brother says The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand was GREAT shit (sorry, I'm not sure if I spelled it right)
