It's definitely better to buy a good 2nd hand one rather than an okay new one (probably works out costing about the same), at least then it'll have good hardware, will be nice to play and'll sound good. Also if you don't like it and decide to sell it on you'll get your money back (whoever you sell it to will have no idea you bought it 2nd Hand). Just check the necks straight and there's no cracks to the body that've been filled and someone's tried to hide.
