Good bang-for-buck Memory Cards

Hey M&A, I've owned a T3i for a while now and have used it solely for photography. The card I use is a pretty cheap 64 gig deal from SanDisk with terribly slow write speed, which makes it impossible to film in anything over 480p. This winter, I'm looking to shoot some skiing and will be needing a new card. I'm looking to be able to shoot 1080p at 60, preferably with a good 2 or 3 hours of footage. That said, do you guys have any suggestions on cards that will get the job done without breaking the bank?

16gb Sandisk Ultra 30MB/s is what I recommend.

At LEAST. I'd recommend the 45mb/s Extreme cards, instead if you go with Sandisk...

I use Lexars, and they're fantastic. Go with the 32GB 400x cards (60mb/s) write speed and they're the last cards you're going to need for that T3i.

You can get 2 for 40$ right now on B&H

we use the exact card I posted every day at work, you definitely don't need more if you dont wanna spend more money, even though the difference now is so small.

I have some extreme plus cards that I use and would definitely recommend them.

They do need to make them look better. Black, gold, white and red clash.

Lexar's black and gold looks better, because black and gold.

I mean, even so, I've still maxed the buffer when shooting 1080p24 on a T2i before - though I'm not sure, is the T3i equipped with a better processor than that?

Either way, a slightly faster card gives you a little more 'future proof-ness' to it.

I have two of these that I picked up for a hilariously cheap deal... I'm considering myself good for a while now.

I have a hard time using a card larger than 32gb unless you have dual slots recording to both cards.

Yeah, half a TB worth of memory in my camera is pretty hilarious to fathom when my computer itself only has twice that much space on it's drive.

I do have dual slots, and these take up both, but really I just got them because they were going for a price that Black Friday would be jealous over. Also, I figure they're probably future proof at this rate.

Also, I'll never fill these cards ever hahaha

Another vote for Sandisk Extreme Plus cards. I've used Lexar in the past and just can't trust them anymore after having one go corrupt in the middle of shooting.

Also consider getting more cards with a little less capacity (i.e. 2 32GB cards instead of 1 64GB), that way if a card craps out while you're shooting, you didn't lose your entire day's worth of work, only what's on that card while the other card remains intact.

I mean, i've had Sandisk cards corrupt on me in shooting - it's just kinda what happens sometimes. Unless you mean the card went corrupt and was completely useless thereafter than it's a occurrence that every brand deals with.

2nd statement I'm in full agreement. I'd honestly never shoot an event with these massive cards I have for that very reason - or I'd at least save them for once all of my other cards (which are all Sandisk extreme 32's) are filled.

True, just saying in my experience of using both brands, I've had no problems with any of my SanDisk cards over the last 6 or 7 years, but did with a Lexar card.

Also to the OP, TheWirecutter.com chose the SanDisk Extreme Plus 32GB as their favorite SD card.

Yeah. I especially had issues with Sandisk ultra 4gb CF cards. They'd corrupt now and then in everything I owned. 10D, 20D, 5Dc, (strangely never in my 1Ds).
