Good backpacking spots

For those of you that backpack, what are some of your fave spots around the state? I love backpacking. Nothing is more rewarding than setting up camp, completely secluded from anything, after a 10 mile trek with 60 pounds on your back. Except of course for skiing fresh powder. The Mystic lake backpack is a good one for beginners, its about 5 or 6 miles if you go in from newworld gulch. Also, the 10 mile lakes near anaconda are a really fun place to go.

Check out Mulman Lake in the Missions. You need a permit from the Indians, and its about 7 miles in with the last 1/2 mile being nearly straight up, but the access to surrounding peaks is amazing and the fish bite like there is no tomarrow.

Heather Lake, Hyalite Lake, Pine Creek Lake, Aero Lakes, the other Mystic Lake, uhhhh....I can't think of any others right now.

Take your fly-rod, drive through cooke city onto the Beartooth plateau, park and set off in any direction.

FYI: Upper Aero Lake had ZERO fish in it when I was up there last year, don't necessarily trust what you read.

In the Absarokas, also try Elbow lake up Mill Creek and climb mt. cowen.

Anyone looking for short backpacks should hit up Blackmore lake. It's like 2 miles and is perfect if your just looking for a one nighter to get drunk or something.

Oh I have been in those many a time, they are nice, but cost money to rent, must be reserved wayyyy in advance and usually have mice living in them. Besides, that kind of defeats the purpose of backpacking. I backpack to get away from it all, you know, just get up into the mountains with some good friends and enjoy nature.
