Good amps and subs

Ok well I was thinking of getting a new car, but I want to save money for next winter for ski trip and get a new car later. So I want to get either two small subs (10-14) or one big sub and a nice amp for the car I have(which is a pile but oh well). So whats some good shtt? What are good places to go for this stuff?
 
you can get small subs and GREAT sound...

JL's 10w7 is incredible for the size, and its JL, so you know its good.

or you can buy like a 12w7 and some cheap Pyle amp.
 
i didnt put this in your PM,

but kicker...the only good subs i think they have (in my opinion) are the solo-x's - or the square ones.

they have more stress points because they are square, but can move a ton of air (which means they hit hard)

and yes, those subs are good. you wont really be dissapointed with anything you buy. but once you hear something better, youre gonna want that.
 
the rms on a 12w7 is 750, and that amp (MAhk1998) is a 500 rms. so it will be slightly under powered (unless you push the amp somewhat hard) but ive heard plenty of stories about people not puttin enough power to jl w7 subs, and they work fabulous.
 
So you dont need the amount of watts on the sub as the amp? So pretty much its chill if you just dont turn it all the way up?

And im not lookin for a HUGE bump, bump is the last thing im worried about. I have a couple friends with subs and it makes the sound like 100000 times better. The bump will be fun here and there, but i want more sound qual over bump.
 
sort of,

the RMS on a sub means how much continuous power it can handle/is recommended to get.

the peak is the maximum amount until it blows up.

with JL subs, they are so good, even if you dont have enough power to push them they still sound great.

if the peak on a sub is 1000W

and the RMS is 500

get a 500W amp.

if you want to really push the sub (risk blowing it out) you could get around an 800W amp or higher.

you for sure need to go JL. its all about the quality. i just bought a sub for my car last monday. Its a W7, but instead of the 10", i just got an 8". its still just as sick though. i still need an amp for my car, but ive had the sub connected to some of my friends amps, and it hits just as good as a 10". i think im actually going to buy a second 8". it also depends on the size of your car, too, though. cause i drive a smaller compact type of car. So the 8" is most likely going to be louder in my car, opposed to a 10" or 12" in a bigger type of car. For sure though, get a JL, either the W6, or the W7. If you do get a JL sub, though, you will want to buy an amp also made by JL. Ive got a 500 watt 1 channel coming in the mail hopefully this week. so it'll be fully installed (with remote bass control) sometime at the end of this week. I'll post some pictures as soon as im done, and let me know if you need anymore help with decisions on subs and amps, cause ive learned a lot about it in the past couple of weeks, and id be more than glad to help out
 
oh yeah, i forgot, if you want quality over really bumpin, you want to see if you can match the wattage in the amp your buying to the RMS of the sub. RMS is the "power range" your sub has. For example, my 8"W7's recommended wattage is between 250 and 500. that probably doesnt seem like a lot of watts, but it still has potenial to be loud as hell. and if I want it to sound as clean as possible, im gonna buy a 500 watt amp (which i did), cause that way i know im not gonna blow my sub, and its still going to sound as good as possible.
 
To everyone who said JL w7s, you guys are fucking crazy. Such a loud sub, i think ill stick to a w3. Good sound, and alot cheaper.
