Going to whistler for three months, how much money do I need?

I'm going to whistler this season for three months and I was just wondering if 150-200 dollars a week is enough for food, drinks and smokes?

Is it possible to get another ski-pass than the season pass since I dont want to pay that much for just three months?

yeah u need about 25 a day, or thats wat i used when i was in whistler for two weeks. u prolly wont need as much cuz u wont be going out to get ur food every night. if u are, u will need at least 40 a day.

I'd say you need more than that. $25 bucks a day = $2250 (approx) for the 3 months. I'd peg it at at least $3000 (CAD) for the 3 months. You can easily spend $500-700 a month on rent, so there goes more than half your money, the food can easily be $300, plus booze, plus lift tickets. Its not cheap. I recommend trying to find a place now, the longer you wait the less that is available and the more expensive it is.

I've alredy got a place and rent is not included in the 150-200 dollars a week, that's just money to spend on booze and smokes and some food.

I'm also looking to buy new boots and avalanche gear when I get there but how much is a pair of good parkboots, ie spk and how much is the avalanche gear(probe, shovel and a good digital beacon)?

SPKs are what, like 450-550 canadian? not exactly sure. Good probe, shovel and beacon will probably run you another 500, maybe a little more. Plus avi classes if you dont know what you're doing.

you need like 30$ a week for sushi, cause if you go to whistler you just have to go out for sushi! but go to samuri because its much cheeper then sushi village (not as good though). then you need like 90$ a week for drinking, then for actual food, me and my friend did like 25$ a week, maybe more cause cheese is like 10$ for the smallest piece.

i think you'll be fine.

hahahaha

yeah, cheese is THE wooorst. SO expensive.

just perfect the art of grocery store thievery, that's how i survive.

8 months nucka. i would make sure you have 350-400 a week, a pack of smokes in whistler is like $24.99, cheese is in fact $10 for a small slice, and loaves of bread start at $6.99. FoodPlus usually has a lot of free food between 11pm and 4am if you want to shop darinastyle.

yea it costs big bills to be in whister of any extended period of time, but there are ways to cut down your costs. Like try to get a job for the mountian, that way you get staff lodging and your rent and lift pass is outa the picture and your bringing in some cash. You can even try for a position in park matience so that you get to hit up the park every day. Then just go for the fewest shifts posible so that you can ride most of the time. Thats what I plan to do

depends where u stay and how much u can resist the nightlife. its not easy, cos it never stops.

if you give blowjobs behind TMC for $5 that will give you enough money for rent, drinks, and food.

spk's are $550, you can get a shitty tranciever, shovel, probe combo for $450 at katmandu, but thats for a real shitty transciever.

this must be the largest misconception about living in whistler... if you work for the mountain, chances are you will work 5 days a week, leaving only 2 days to ride.. and they own you, they control your job, house, and pass.. which is all that matters here.. wash dishes every night, and ski every day.

if your asking these kind of questions i think you need a few more years of living with mommy and daddy before you move out on your own

yeah but you had a job which gave you access to free food and you didn't count your lift tickets in there.

plus, summer is different from winter. I say get the season pass, because if you're there for three months, buying small deals (i.e. 6-day pass) will be more expensive in the end, and you won't want to spend your tickets on days that are not 100% perfect. When you have your season pass, you can go anytime, and if the conditions are not good, you just get back home and your money is not wasted.

concerning food, that's up to you I think. You can eat cheap in Whistler, but you'll get the quality of food that goes with it. Eating good WILL cost a lot of money.

Honestly, I prepared a budget for this summer before leaving for Whistler, and spent about twice as much as I expected, so take that in consideration. You can't predict everything you're going to do once you're there, so plan a more than your basic needs (food lift tickets ans booze).

dont eat at the on-mountain restaraunts if you wanna save a bunch of money.. go to their grocery place and buy white bread and peanut butter.. make a sandwich before you leave put it in your pocket.. bring a bottle of water and your good to go.. you'll save sooo much money

On the hill, drink the free water from the taps in all the good restaurants. Before u get 2 whistler, stop in squamish and go to the extra foods off the highway. Buy like 100 packages of noname noodle packs that cost 49 cents. On the mountain, get a large coke cup, and fill it with boiling hot water thet they have for free. And u have a 50 cent luch

If you really don't want to spend money, make sure you have a car, or atleast a buddy who has a car. If you don't, you're going to find that you're spending A LOT of money on whistler transit (unless you get a bus pass). Also, if you're man enough, just eat less. Thats what most people do.

quit smoking. that will save you some dough. and i bet you could do food on 20 a day, if you dont buy any at the resort (duh sorry) and depending on how many people you're gonna have, when you split meals its cheaper, like pizzas and shit

eating good isnt expensive. it costs more to eat shit or fast food cause you have to eat more, unless your willing to get sick.

milk and cereal, $8. lasts a week. $1.14 a day

bread/cold cuts/lettuce/, $9. lasts 5 days. $1.80 a day

buy whole grain, it fills you more

cheese, $7. lasts a week. $1 a day

3 sesame snaps, $0.99. $0.66 a day

steak/broccoli/potato for one day. $6.75

one day of decent eating = $11.35

McDonalds breakfast= $5

ichiban noodles= $0.50

crackers and condiments = free

McDonalds dinner = $6

one shitty day of food = $11.50 but try skiing whistler everyday on that
