Im all about park, but when my dad and I go to UT this year, we're gonna be all about the terrain/pow. So what are the best 3 mountains (relatively close to eachother, only gonna be there a week or two and staying at hotel) for terrain and powder?? Thx

you might get some different opinions but i say top 3 for park are park city, canyons, brighton. top 3 for pow alta, snowbird, brighton

Alta/Snowbird

40 minutes from SLC, snowbird has lodging too though. But if you stayed in SLC you would also be 30 from park city if there isnt any new snow and you want to shred some park.

Solitude and canyons could also be good because you will be able to find pow for much much longer. Alta and i assume snowbird gets skied out pretty fast, and if you dont know where to go itll be even less freshies for you. But canyons terrain cant compare to the Alta/Snowbird.

Were prob goin to Alta/Snowbird for a couple days, but my dad wants to find a 3rd mountain to hit up.

BTW were going in MARCH (around the 10th)

If you want to get the most out of your trip doing the most out-west shreddin I'd go to brighton for the third. You can get a little park fix they usually have some fun rails to play on, and they also have dope terrain that you and your dad would definitely enjoy.

Stay at one of the smaller lodges up in the canyon at Alta, on mountain, good food, super good vibe. I stayed at Snowpine and it was reasonable early season (50ish a night). Def. Alta and the Bird for freeride though

Brighton is magical on a pow day. Along with Alta and Snowbird. PC and The Canyons are whats up for blue bird park days. PC preferably.

i have to throw snowbasin out there as well. if you're looking for powder a couple days after a storm, theyre sure to have some long after everything else is tracked up. also, second straight year hosting the dew tour, so i'm willing to be they're stepping up their park game significantly.

definitely alta! they get dumped on beginning of march. plus all the lodges there are really chill and fun, like the peruvian, or snowpine. rustlers ok, but its just alta trying to be kinda frou frou for the people who want it. the goldminers is good too and its a 5 minute walk from the collins and wildcat lifts for first chair! also head over to snowbird, the most fun way skiing there is either through keyhole or just exploring through the westward ho.

have fun!!

Best vibe/pow: Alta
Best terrain: Snowbird
Best park: PC
Size: Canyons (good park too)
Overall: Snowbasin (pretty underrated in my mind)

You MUST go to Alta. its skiings Mecca

next you should hit up Snowbasin for something different.

Then Brighton if your pops isnt the greatest (like my dad) its got good terrain for all ability types. but not the gnar of Snowbird or Alta.

if your pops is good, ide hit up Solitude, but if hes not that great, he will get bored there.

hate away NS but if he doesnt really want to ski park, for the PC resorts i would choose DV then the canyons, finally PCMR. again thats if he doesnt want to ski park.

NICE THREAD, cuz ill be staying in park city with 5 days to ski

so obviously ill hit up park city, and the canyons.

but how long a drive is it from park city to brighton and alta?

i wanna get some good pow

What I was thinking was staying near alta/SB and maybe going one day to park city, also wondering how long the drive is and if its possible to get there by public transportation?

i did the same trip with my dad last year we went to the canyons park city and powder mt (catskiing) my favrite mountain was the canyons it offers so so much

Alta/snowbird suck for pow dont go there head to pc if you want some pow dont listen to what the others say pc is the place for snow.

My best days have been skiing with the alta/bird pass when its dumping snowand its always fun to see how many times you can go supreme to gad 2 in one day my records 7

When I was in Utah I skied PC, Canyons and Alta. PC was sick, loved The Canyons and Alta was just alright when I went since everything was skied out.

I am by no means an expert on Utah mountains, but I would say from my experience that that is accurate in a way. PC is absolutely huge, technically much bigger than brighton unless I'm somehow mistaken. So technically, PC has more overall skiable terrain. That being said, from what I saw when i went there, brighton has a lot more back/side countryish terrain. By that i mean cliffs, chutes, etc. PC has the Jupiter Bowl, which is definitely sick, but other than that, I didnt see much that compared to brighton.
That being said, you should take what i say with a grain of salt. I skied 5 days at brighton, 1 at park city and 1 at snowbird. So i got to know brighton a lot better than i got to know PC. And snowbird was without a doubt epic as far as the gnar goes. I have to say though, of the three, brighton was my favorite overall, even though snowbird trumps it as far as terrain goes. It may have been because i spent so much time there, and it kindof became my home away from home mountain, but i think it had more to do with the general vibe. More laid back, less crowded, and the terrain was still very sick.
