Going to Jordan, what should I buy/bring?

Going on a school trip, not very strict, lots of free time, have a local Jordanian showing me around when not with teacher, gonna have some scilla, gonna be staying all over.

So give me suggestions!

if you're going in summer make sure you bring suntan lotion, and a hat. it gets soo sunny and soo hot. also bring a camera for sure. hopefully you'll visit petra ( cool caves in indiana jones and the last crusade). If you play guitar bring an acoustic.

and bring some cash, I'm not sure of jordan's alcohol laws, but i'm pretty sure it's real lax, so get wasted.

I just found out my uncle is a president of some college or university in jordan. From what my cousin has told me when he vists him(my uncle left the states a few years ago) it's not too dangerous but it can be boring, oh and goats would knock him down.

You'd be surprised how well you'll be accepted in Jordan. It's not exactly the most backwards of middle eastern countries.
Just dont go in there looking like a jarhead fucktard and they'll be totally cool with you, and ask you about a billion questions about what America is like.

All I can say is, the number one thing you MUST DO is get a glimpse of the queen... Holy shit...

this is actually pretty far from the truth, you may want to try to speak from experience instead of believing the whole "everyone hates america" thing.. I went over there because my brother in law is from Jordan and the reception I received from just about everyone was extremely promising, including intruiged questions about where I am from and how I was enjoying their country. They were extremely welcoming to me being American. Pretty amazing place actually

I would suggest bringing a solid knowledge of the local laws and customs, as well as a pre-paid phone with the numbers for the local embassy. Your pass port wouldn't hurt either. You'll stick out like a sore thumb regardless of what you do, so do some research to keep yourself from being an easy target. Get the local currency in denominations that people would carry, not just the big bills that an ATM would spit out. Don't be dumb and you should be able to avoid having your head cut off on local television. Yes, There are groups active in Jordan that like the idea of kidnapping and killing a westerner.
