Going to have to make a thread...

Billiards.

Here are my two points: Tricks can't be played. Why? because ya might as well be able to do it all. How can pretzels be played? There are so many variations, if you can't pretzel, you probably can't ski rails... Are people just supposed to spin the same direction or do a tail press every time? Nawww. And if you want to win contests, lets face it, you have to be able to spin fast and double flip. You might as well learn how to kangaroo flip if you know it will impress the judges and thats what you want to do. No matter how shitty the roo flip can look at times, you almost have to be able to do it or close to it for major contests. If the trick is fun, or you want to impress the hot chicks on the lift you might as well do it.

Second point: Just because you want to get sponsored or make a promo doesn't mean your skiing for money or whatever. If you really really love skiing, then you probably want to be good at what you love. The way to prove to yourself that your good at what you love is winning contests or having a companies support aye? A last couple thoughts, a sponsor can help you get to contests or save money to do what you really love so I think the people putting all the effort into promo vidoes are probably the people that love skiing the most.

Well anyway, you might not agree and I may be wasting internet space but I felt like sharing!

I agree, i get so damn annoyed with kids always saying any new fad in skiing is played as soon as it comes around

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that people saying shit is played because of jealousy.

haha thats truw sometimes, when i coudnt do hand drags i didnt like them. But now i love to pull them over every roller i see.

I agree with everything in your post except for when you said "If you can't pretzel you probably can't ski rails" cause I sure as hell can't do pretzels but I can slide most rails I've come across.

exactly the same as me. I cant pretzle to save my life unless its out of a sw 270 but i can still slide rails. But that doesent mean i dont like them. I really wish i could do them and would throw them all day if i could.

do it 4 the ladies hahaha

i will give yo karma when i find out what it is and when it works and have alot of time on my hands

Then why don't you go out and do it yourself and make an edit? Be the change you want to see in skiing. If you can't do it yet then take one day and learn that shit. Honestly, if you don't want it, then don't do it. Who said you had to ski like everybody else?

Totally agree, I was trying to get on that recently, but it didn't come out the best. Aj Dakoulas from 4bi9 kills it with pretzel and press combos.

So true man, I got sponsored not because I want to get paid skiing but because comp fees are fucking expensive, along with equipment. I mean, obviously it's a job and whatnot but I really doubt I'll go pro ever, so every little bit helps.

Also, creativity mixed with technicality will make for amazing skiing edits and segments and tricks in general, just tech or just creativity is boring...yeah I'm gonna say it seeing 5 or 6 handdrags in an edit is boring. Handdrags off of jumps? Ummmm seems like a great way to break a thumb or something, and to me it doesn't seem that cool. But a TJ style nose butter cork 5 stylie off a jump is fuckin sweet, and switch handdrag 3s are off the chain. There's always a balance you gotta hit, some people lean more toward one than the other.

But we can all agree that we gotta keep the steeze.

i fully agree with number 2

but for point 1 i agree a bit

i think there should be less kang flips and dub flips and stuff cause theres sooo many other things you can do. style should be juged more too

im not saying that they're played but i wish more style was judged

Even though I agree with everything people have stated here, everyone should just shut the fuck up, and not worry about it. It's not a big deal, so get off skiing's back.

Here Here!! agree with you one hundred percent, we are all here for the love of one thing, so lets stop hating on each other, and just be stoked for one another and everything we do, its all the same shit in the end

damn strait. i have a friend that can spin a bit bigger than me but he pencils it like a weiner. i grab my shit.

I don't agree with your second point at all....

The crew I ride with... We all through down, big spins, go upside, urbans, whatever... and none of us have put togethor a promo vid ever. So are you saying we don't like skiing as much as you because we didn't bust out the video camera? No way man... we like just riding and having fun. Having more sponsors than someone else doesn't mean you love skiing more than them at all. And also, does that mean all the old rippers that are like 50+ and have been skiing their whole life and possibly all over the world don't like skiing as much as you because they aren't SPANSORSIZZLED? Hell no.

yeah man you read that way wrong. he is just saying that there is nothing wrong with kids taking out the camera and filming. a kid in another thread was saying that kids that film all the time are not skiing for fun or something like that. he was just saying that that is wrong

word thanks John. Im just saying that the people who work hard at being the best they can be and usually want positive feeback probably love it just as much if not more than anyone else.

I strongly agree, kids that say things are played are just really insecure that they can't do it, or are following someone else's insecurity

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree completely with No. 2, while only with No. 1 to an extent. A trick can get played if everyone is doing it over and over and over. If I'm judging a competition, and I see all the skiers throw down a switch 1080 octo, I wouldn't be very impressed; none of them had any creativity to go out of the norm and try something else. Jon Olsson almost played out the kang flip at the X-Games big air when he threw that down every time (although, I admit it is a pretty impressive trick). Tell me if you think that I read your post wrong, because I think that I might have.

No...

#1--Tricks get played.  Switch 10s got played.  Truckdriver grabs got played. Hand drag 180s got played. However, just because a trick is played out doesn't mean it's no longer impressive and no one should ever do it again.

#2--Some kids don't need to prove anything to themselves or their friends by seeing how many contests they can win and how many sponsors they can get, and they drive up to the mountain everyday to have fun.  Not to get the shot or work on their U.S Open run, just to have fun with their friends. And I would say a lot of those kids love skiing more than a lot of pros because the expectations that come with being sponsored take some of the fun out of skiing.

^Pff I didn't say you have to make a promo and enter contests to be a

fun loving skier. I just said the kids who put a lot of effort into it

probably love it just as much anyone else. I read a thread where a few

different kids said that people shouldn't make promos because skiing is

for fun, which I think is stupid. Kids that put all there effort and

love of skiing into being the best they can probably love it a tone

too. THAT was my point. NOT that your only having fun if you make a

promo and enter contests. ahhhhh.
