For example, it is very easy to identify the pro football player they either are or are not in the NFL.

 
pro means you get paid money. am means you get free stuff, recgonition, and flown around perhaps.

pro techinically means your companys pay you to ski, if you get paid by a company to ski you are a pro

we had a big discussion about pro vs amateur athletes in one of my classes last year. there is no set definition, but most people see pro as someone who skis for a living. they may have other sources of income on the side, but their main source is from skiing.

did you know that if you play soccer or something in highschool and you are pro at any sport like skiing(get paid from sponsors) then you are forced to withdraw form the high school sport? i just found that out today

thye have this super achievers program in my school where students with talent at a sport only take half the week of school and train the rest of the week, and this ski racer (ben chaddock) was in it and these gymnasts were in it. it would be crazy if they offered it to skiiers and boarders, i wouldnt be good enough to qualify for it though.
