Going Fast

have you ever ripped the early morning corduroy with 3 inches of the lightest of freshies on top? skiing fakie? my favorite part of skiing, hands down. huge rooster tails, the best edge control, and few people.

haha legit? his skis were about to snap in half becasue they were so sketchy... that shit was rediculous.

It was a calculated estimate, not radared. I wasn't on chattery park skis either, but it was still pretty insane. Things seemed to be going by about as fast as they do when I'm in a car doing 90. Its possible it was high. We initially thought it was a bit high, but Super G racers will hit 110+, so it made a little more sense.

all the edges under my foot are gone so when i try to initiate a turn on the icy east coast they just slide along the ice instead of cutting in, its gay but i cant afford new ones so its good enough

i used to do straight runs down superstar (no turns) except maybe on the last bit and switch runs as well

the great eastern run from killington peak to the bottom of skyship is so fun early in the morning too

yeah, i just love ripping it down the hill. I love the park, but being there all day gets way to much for me. I still love to rip down ( not swtich) all the time.

Yeah not the dodging people part though. I like being able to just go not having to worry about any obstacles and just bomb it. If any one has been to Sun Valley and bombed warm springs all the way from the top that is the best experince ever.

"The "downhill" discipline involves the highest speeds and therefore the greatest risks of all the alpine events. Racers on a typical international-level course will exceed speeds of 130 kilometers per hour (80 mph) and some courses, such as the famous Hahnenkamm course in Kitzbühel, Austria, speeds of up to 150 kilometers per hour (93 mph) in certain sections are expected. Competing in the downhill event requires of racers considerable strength and technical expertise."

Couldn't find exact data on the Super G which does hit higher speeds, but I did watch it once on American TV and it was definitely 110mph. Although then again, I'm just a mechanical engineer so its not like I understand the metric system, or measurements in general for that matter. So I'm sure that you are smarter than me and know what you're talking about more than I do.

You may be a mechanical engineer but you obviously are not a ski racer because if you were you would know that an SG course has more gates than a down hill course (over the same distance). More gates = more turns = slower speeds = you're an idiot.

fast is fun and goin through trees and stuff is great but i hate having to dodge people cause a lot of the time they are just CRAP!

yeah i guess waiting till 10am when everyone is on the hill is a much better alternative..

You fool, as said, Super-G is a TIGHTER course than downhill, you might go 110-120km/h MAX on a Super-G when you are on a steep straight section. The fastest in downhill on a course if 150km/h and it's only a short section. The only time you'd go 110mph is in speed skiing.

But yeah you're right Super G is tighter, the lack of an edit button prevented me from correcting my overzealous mistake, I originally just assumed Super meant that it was super. Speed skiing definitely hits velocities of 110mi/h. In fact speed skiing speeds have been over 98mi/h since 1947. Currently the record is 156.834 mi/h. Either way, because my facts were not facts does not detract from my point that 90 mi/h is attainable by a very skilled skier, assuming however that modern equipment is margainably better than ski equipment was in 1947.

My family used to vacation at copper mountain every winter, and stayed right at the base of the super bee. Best part was the warm-up runs down that lift. Those two steep sections right at the bottom of Rosi's were the best first thing in the morning. Popping off the roller near the 6th-ish lift pole, freshly groomed, arcing huge gs turns.....yeaaaaahhhhh

the top of superstar is soo fun to go straight down. it's always ice because the sun doesn't really hit it. same with the lower section, but it's still fun. and taking great eastern all the way from the top to the bottom is underrated. there are so many things to do along the way. you can go switch for awhile, go into some side trails through the woods, fly by a few gapers, check out the conditions on the whole mountain and then grab a coffee at the bottom for the ride back up. I can't wait to do that again this winter.

i love bombing off rollers on early mornin groomed but do your guys mountains actually have black diamonds that are groomed? the ones at my mountain are either too steep to get a groomer on them or a winch cat or there steep moguls...

no theyre not, big white has some sick black groomed runs. off gem lake. all those black beauty or black whatever runs. once in a while they groom one. sooo sick. and coquihalla is so fun to rip down, with the huge rollers. and kalina's rainbow. i heart big white.

First run , just bombing the mountain on the longest trail, switch,

second run, nice warm up fool around run on the same trail with the rollers.

then to the park rest of the day.

I agree with pussyfooter, hauling ass through gaypers while skiing switch is always fun

in high school at the shitty lump we raced on we brought a radar gun and straight lined it to see how fast we could go. I tied this other kid at 52... yea pretty sweet "mountain."
