Going fast

this may sound weird, but i can't not go fast. Like i want to slow down but i just go really fast. Ive tried doing gay big turns like an old lady, but i still go fast. And dont say im a pussy for making this thread, its just that whenever i go to hit something i'm going unbelievably fast, and have to like stop so i dont overshoot the jump by like 400 feet.

i can obviously do that, what do you think i am three, its just sometimes when im skiing steep runs im goin a bit out of my comfort zone

man thats such a dumb wxcuse to not hit a jump. to be like "oh i dont know how to go slow" is just stupid.

"im good, i race" im not saying you cant, but saying that you race doesnt prove you can ski. just make some turns and carve and if ur still haveing trouble, hit it fast.

Forget parallel skiing. Throw in a nice, big snowplowing wedge. You'll slow down, trust me.

yea yea get out of the fall line if ur turning....also make short, fast turns before the jump or just dont start from so far

that's the best... when you're just outside your limits and you don't know if you're going to live or not. that's what you get an adrenaline rush from. I can never get enough speed... I FUCKING LOVE IT!!!!

if you pizza when your supposed to french fry, your gonna have a bad tiime

no but seriously this might be the dumbest thread i have ever witnessed. all you gotta do is speed check, or raise your comfort zone to a higher limit

take it from an instructor: do open parallel. its like carving but you don't hold your edge through the outside of the turn. its like doing a gentle hockey stop around the outside of your turn. its hard to explain in writing but hopefully that helps

i know what youre on about, like when youre doing a speed run, hooking big turns & you want to wash a bit of speed, you break out of the carve & slide the turn. then you slow down.

and when coming up to a jump, just chuck your skis sideways for a sec, its not hard.

You should probably quit skiing and do something a bit more safe like knitting or cooking or bagging groceries. People like you are the ones who KILL others in collisions. Don't come to my state or you will be dealt with properly, like letting a tractor-trailer hit you on I-70...

Sleep tight...

gay racer thinks hes so fast. I love to just out perform all the stupid races on twin tips. they suck so much

Hahahhahha! Oh and uh, that's what we call having no speed judgement what-so-ever. I suggest you either sac up and stop using that as an excuse not to hit jumps, or to just learn how to judge your speed. Honestly how hard can that be? You say you're a good skier and a racer and yet you don't know how to gradually slow down or keep your speed at a certain pace? Sounds like bullshit to me man.

sounds like your a brain washed racer who can't stay off edges. try to learn to to turn w/o rail road tracks. use this drill. go to a trail, and vision two cat tracks wide of edge of the trail. now pick a turn shape, perferbaly short, and maintain speed w/ that turn shape within the parameters of the two cat tracks. when you can do this, you should be able to be able to ski slow if you have any ounce of skill.

theres ur problem, im not trying to beat on races, i myslef am a ex-racer, but when i took my csia level 1 course (ski instructor)i learnt that racers dont know how to ski they know how to race, and its our nature to use too much edge and go mach 10, thats just how it works

^yea I but I used to race I can still fuckin slow down and not over shoot every jump like an idiot...what the fuck, learn how to ski people before you go hit jumps

learn to ski then. skiing to fast and being out of your comfort zone sounds like a stupid move.

um no. it is actualy a very good drill for working on turns, i may not have explained it well. but give it a try and see how well it helps

^ The dumb part was you saying he's brain washed by racing and he can ski only on his edges... We all constantly ski on our edges but you just don't notice it. Plus he can ski without using his edges and not in "train tracks" if he wanted to, it's not like he is incapable of doing so. Also why would you even want to stop learning how to ski like that, is it because it has to do with racing? Honestly, your drill, you can go ahead and teach people that if they want to become worse skiers.

You should practice and work your way up to steep and fast runs. Don't go into places that are "above your comfort zone." Go a little above your level and keep progressing, your not going to get any better by taking huge ginormous steps.

your pretty ignorant if you really beleive that...

but

instead of making big long turns to slow down you can stick with the fall line and slow down still if you lean on edge more and definatly harder, roll your ankles a bit...you can unbuckle your boots and go down nothin to hard and practice rolling your ankles and shifting weight to your outside ski accordingly to get more of a bite with your edge into the snow.
