Goepper without poles?

was watching dew tour and i noticed goepper wasn't using poles? Personally i find he looks awkward with out his poles, This is not a hate thread but what does everyone else think about his decision?

I noticed that he had a huge mitten on one of his hands, and just a thin glove on the other one. Maybe he hurt himself during practise?

I believe he has broken his hand/wrist/something-in-that-general-area that stops him from holding a pole.

The announcers said "it doesn't matter to the judges if you have poles or not." I think that no poles in a Slopestyle gives the pole-less skier an unfair advantage because without poles, grabs are easier to get and hold. And it seems like half of the points go to the grabs in Slopestyle competitions like x games and dew tour. Henrik Harlaut skis with poles in competition even though he never skis with poles outside of competition.

Dude, Nick Goepper was wearing socks under his ski boots today too! Let's talk about that too!

He injured his hand so he's skiing without poles. Let's end this thread before the 12 year old Rasta/Wu Tang Inspired fan boys invade it and turn it into a "let's hate on Goepper for no reason" party.

How can you hate on that run. All of his landings were pinned.

I actually dig his no poles style. Whether it be because of an injury or not, I'd like to see him stick with it. His non-grab hand was always glued to his side and looked super controlled though the whole run.

Good call by the judges in my book.

Double posting, but I kind of disagree. You got a point about how its a lot easier to grab but whenever I drop the poles, I find it harder to keep balance and its slightly harder to things clean. It could just be because I'm not even close to the x-games level, but I've always been under the impression they help help you, park or not.

I mean, it's not like we carry them around for no reason.

Skiing without poles seems pretty natural by now. If the announcers didn't say anything I probably wouldn't even have noticed

Does anyone else find it a little weird that the judges didn't know that he had a broken hand? These guys seem to know absolutely nothing about the athletes. They can't even fucking get Henrik's name right...

if i was a competition skier i wouldnt use poles. they really dont do anything to improve performance in a slope course. not like theyre racing or skiing pow.

Pro level slope skiers can grab just as good with or without poles.

That being said poles are completely worthless for park skiing, it'd be pretty cool if everyone stopped using poles in contests.

Personally, I like skiing with poles just as much as I like skiing with out poles. I feel like I have better balance with poles, but without poles it just feels more fun. Thanks for informing me on the grabbing ability of pros.

I'd guess that the judges knew. The announcers obviously didn't, or if they did they didn't care enough to mention it.

If you knew then why did you bitch? I guarentee goep dog can grab just as well with or without pole, you opinon on wether it makes it easier for them or not isn't relivant because you literally have no idea what its like to be at that level of skiing.

That being said, if you like poles thats fine but the balance thing is all in your head.

So, then, why are there poles in regular skiing? For balance. You're retarded for saying you don't need poles in park because they have pretty much the same function as normal skiers.

Poles are part of basic ski mechanics. When you turn, you pole plant. A lot of racers/mogul skiers will practice skiing without poles to work on balance and body position because people get lazy with their poles and become depended on them.

They literally serve no purpose in the park, the whole "i feel more balanced" thing is all in your head. I ski park without poles and i took a lap today with poles and it didn't feel any different, minus I was holding two pieces of metal for no reason. Its all based on what your comfortable with and i bet any person who uses poles could ski the same in the park without poles as soon as they passed the metal block, because thats all it is, all mental.

and its not like the 36inch poles most people use in the park to do anything to help initiate a turn or do anything poles were intended to do.

If we just stopped using poles in slopestyle, we are pretty much just asking to get ripped on/criticized by the other side of the snow sport industry..

I mean by eliminating poles is just changing the sport itself (in slopestyle/park) to be easier or in most peoples on newschoolers words "creative".

We may as well ski on shorter ski's so we could spin/flip faster too while were at it.

Well skis are shorter than they used to be dumb head. No poles in the park makes complete sense. The only time i use them is in pow and on steep lines where you need the stability. Otherwise they don't really do much

he has poles in the picture of him in the ad on the desktop site for the dew tour. He looked steezy this year too. Poles or not, boss run!

you still need poles in the park, no poles looks retarded, even henriks run last year at dew tour looked retarded without poles you tend to flop your arms around alot more because you don't know what to do with your arms

1. who cares?

2. probably did it as a big "fuck you" to all the dumbass ns kids who hate him for not being gangster enough for their liking

I love how he said he went poleless because he cant hold poles with his broken hand, but he did a dub 10 mute to DOUBLE JAPAN.

He can double grab on skis just fine, but poles are too much of a challenge i guess.
