Go Pro: Do's and Don'ts

i just watched an edit that had a kid straight airing jumps that was filmed by a go pro mounted to the kids helmet so here is my simple three step plan to make your edits actually enjoyable

1. take the go pro off you helmet and start throwing bigger tricks and add a lot of style.

2. give the go pro to your Filmer so he can throw it away, he doesn't have time for this baby shit.

3. Take you skis, burn them, and never return to the terrain park.

Man, I'm pretty that kid was having the time of his life. I think that even being able to get air on skis put you in the top 25% of people who ski. Why all the hate? Damn, the already jaded 14 year olds hounding for acceptance from their icons by being dicks to others is intolerable sometimes. Yet.. that's NS in a nutshell i suppose.

Wait so I'm not getting how the person will throw bigger tricks and add style to them if he has to burn his skis and never return to the terrain park.

See where you went wrong OP is that your joke was so unfunny that everybody received it like it was just a really dumb idea. Be funnier and this won't happen.

Your right, GoPros are shit, dont use them. They just simply do not work. In fact, why don't we ask Abe Kislevitz about using GoPros, because he of course would just say they suck right? And his edits suck because he uses a GoPro right?

the age of kislevitz has died, it's all the same now, just funky angles with overedited footage to some dumb techno. it's old.

when you can put out an edit that fucking good with a GoPro then you can come back to me and tell me that his edits are "overedited footage to some dumb techno"

i'm not saying what he puts out isn't good. i'm saying that the way people are trying to replicate it is old and dead. i'm sick of seeing kids thinking they're mastermind editors just because they can mask and pause in AE in order to do the sequence shot effect.

well the fact of the matter is, it looks sick when done right and adds a cool effect to any edit. It adds an interesting twist to just an ordinary shot. The editing done in his edits is far from simple and is certainly not easy. The man has talent

Fact is a strong word... and Gavin is right; shit's gay as fuck. It truly is overedited and his colors are whack (satuation/constrast boosts is straight played).

I used to like Abe's edits, but then I turned 16 and realized that shit's childish. But hey, it's a great marketing scheme for selling to kids and parents whose only exposure to freeskiing is USC ski team and x games.

What I'm saying is that it's still very impressive. It's not simple to edit like that. It's not like he's just going into a software and picking out different effects and just using every other one, he is intricately adding in each effect to go in the perfect spot. Dude's a talented editor

Sure it's difficult, but what does it accompolish? All you're really doing is taking away from what should be the subject (the skier). The only reason I see anyone adding those effects is to show that they can do said effect.

Those effects are neat, but they have no place in any credible edit or in any credible short film. Neither do those colors, nor his song choices. Abe's a great editor (and I envy his job), but he makes skiing look like its a fucking frat party (and god forbid that ever happens.)

well the song choice is completely up to the editor and in all honesty there is nothing wrong with the song choices. There fun, upbeat songs, which totally fit the mood of the edit itself

Who says the subject has to be the skier, what if my subject is creativity or art? This is the sole basis of why some of my videos became popular - because it's not about the skiing or the tricks. It's about the vibe and being different. And I agree, it's not for everyone - especially not your typical 'hard core' skier, but I'd like to think it gives inspiration to people out there to try something different.

And yes, along the way you will get a lot of people mimicking the style, but that is just an avenue to learning the tools to eventually be able to branch out on their own.

Finally someone agrees with me.

Sure abe, you come out with quite a lot of cool shit, that one with the coloured snow comes to mind.

But then your latest videos are pretty much 90% you guys high fiving and dancing on the fucking chairlift, it gets repetitive as balls. When you're a good filmer and a good skier, you should actually film skiing.

I thought that there was a general consensus that the subject of every ski edit is the skier(s). And who says creativity/art cannot be achieved when filming a skier?

I totally agree; however, most of my skiing now is actually my time to socialize with friends I don't see often. My job takes up 97% of my time so the rare opportunity I get to be out shredding for fun is when we're just enjoying the company of one another and not throwing down. I try so hard to get everyone together and get them stoked to throw down but when you're out of college, 7 hours from the mountain and everyone has full time jobs it's not the easiest. :)
