This November fifth I want every registered US voter on this site to vote for the Green party candidates in your area! You can find out who that is at www.greenpartyus.org (there's a link in my sig if you're too lazy to copy and paste). Tell your parents, tell your friends, and help to get this nation on the right track. YOU ARE THE MEDIUM FOR CHANGE.

November 5th - Vote Green Party! Green Party USA

the problem is. much more people would vote for the green party but the people that would know that if they vote green they're basically throwing their vote away unless their goal is to keep the green party alive.

You're right... but if everyone who wanted to voted for the Green Party anyway, then the Green candidate would win! Like I said, we are the medium for change... you might have to take losses at first, but if the Party gets enough support then people will realize that Green candidates can win, and then they will cast the vote.

EVERYONE STOP! don't do it for your own good. kami is just a liberal philosophical homo, and wants to rape all the little boys adn their stuffed animals. adn by doing that you will be enabling him to 'get in touch' with all your little siblings relatives or even the little kid next door. so do what you know is right! DOWN WITH GREEN!

jizack, you're right... I fucked your little brother last night, and I'm coming for you next.

Lineskier10, here are the Ten Key Values of the Green Party, as ratified at the 2000 party convention:

1. GRASSROOTS DEMOCRACY

Every human being deserves a say in the decisions that affect their lives and not be subject to the will of another. Therefore, we will work to increase public participation at every level of government and to ensure that our public representatives are fully accountable to the people who elect them. We will also work to create new types of political organizations which expand the process of participatory democracy by directly including citizens in the decision-making process.

2. SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY

All persons should have the rights and opportunity to benefit equally from the resources afforded us by society and the environment. We must consciously confront in ourselves, our organizations, and society at large, barriers such as racism and class oppression, sexism and homophobia, ageism and disability, which act to deny fair treatment and equal justice under the law.

3. ECOLOGICAL WISDOM

Human societies must operate with the understanding that we are part of nature, not separate from nature. We must maintain an ecological balance and live within the ecological and resource limits of our communities and our planet. We support a sustainable society which utilizes resources in such a way that future generations will benefit and not suffer from the practices of our generation. To this end we must practice agriculture which replenishes the soil; move to an energy efficient economy; and live in ways that respect the integrity of natural systems.

4. NON-VIOLENCE

It is essential that we develop effective alternatives to society’s current patterns of violence. We will work to demilitarize, and eliminate weapons of mass destruction, without being naive about the intentions of other governments. We recognize the need for self-defense and the defense of others who are in helpless situations. We promote non-violent methods to oppose practices and policies with which we disagree, and will guide our actions toward lasting personal, community and global peace.

5. DECENTRALIZATION

Centralization of wealth and power contributes to social and economic injustice, environmental destruction, and militarization. Therefore, we support a restructuring of social, political and economic institutions away from a system which is controlled by and mostly benefits the powerful few, to a democratic, less bureaucratic system. Decision-making should, as much as possible, remain at the individual and local level, while assuring that civil rights are protected for all citizens.

6. COMMUNITY-BASED ECONOMICS AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE

We recognize it is essential to create a vibrant and sustainable economic system, one that can create jobs and provide a decent standard of living for all people while maintaining a healthy ecological balance. A successful economic system will offer meaningful work with dignity, while paying a “living wage” which reflects the real value of a person’s work.

Local communities must look to economic development that assures protection of the environment and workers’ rights; broad citizen participation in planning; and enhancement of our “quality of life.” We support independently owned and operated companies which are socially responsible, as well as co-operatives and public enterprises that distribute resources and control to more people through democratic participation.

7. FEMINISM AND GENDER EQUITY

We have inherited a social system based on male domination of politics and economics. We call for the replacement of the cultural ethics of domination and control with more cooperative ways of interacting that respect differences of opinion and gender. Human values such as equity between the sexes, interpersonal responsibility, and honesty must be developed with moral conscience. We should remember that the process that determines our decisions and actions is just as important as achieving the outcome we want.

8. RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY

We believe it is important to value cultural, ethnic, racial, sexual, religious and spiritual diversity, and to promote the development of respectful relationships across these lines.

We believe that the many diverse elements of society should be reflected in our organizations and decision-making bodies, and we support the leadership of people who have been traditionally closed out of leadership roles. We acknowledge and encourage respect for other life forms than our own and the preservation of biodiversity.

9. PERSONAL AND GLOBAL RESPONSIBILITY

We encourage individuals to act to improve their personal well-being and, at the same time, to enhance ecological balance and social harmony. We seek to join with people and organizations around the world to foster peace, economic justice, and the health of the planet.

10. FUTURE FOCUS AND SUSTAINABILITY

Our actions and policies should be motivated by long-term goals. We seek to protect valuable natural resources, safely disposing of or “unmaking” all waste we create, while developing a sustainable economics that does not depend on continual expansion for survival. We must counterbalance the drive for short-term profits by assuring that economic development, new technologies, and fiscal policies are responsible to future generations who will inherit the results of our actions.

i have to say that i like your ideals.. but there's absolutely no chance that the green party will win one seat. i'm not being pessimistic, or cynical here, just realistic. what i would like to do is exercise my right to throw my vote. this being said, i have to admit that i voted green in the last canadian election.

Kami- I'm sure you know that I agree with a lot of the Greens ideology, but you must admit that if a Green were to ever get in a position of power he would be completely lost. I mean who would be Ralph Nader's seretary of defense? theird part cnadidiates don't even know enough people to try and fill a cabinet.

I mean it might not be the best way, but a two party system keeps things somewhat sane- like in Germany the governing coalition is made up of socialist and greens, a mad combonation, so you have a big group of legislators who do nothing but look at the environmental impacts of everything. you must realize that American politics are for the best and teh wealthiest of the upper class. I think if you really want to make those sort of changes that the Greens are advocating, you should go register yourself a democrat and vote for the most liberal dem in all your primaries (easier if you actaully live in a semi-liberal state.). I think it blows that there is really no where for people tolook who have these sort of ideologies, but the only way your voice is heard loudly is if you vote within the major parites for the cnadidate who most fits with what you want.

'There are only two powers in the world...the sword of the oppressor and the spirit of the oppressed. In the long run, the sword is always defeated by the spirit.'

Mad_trixx, that's one of the Green Party's platforms. Legalization of most drugs (putting the emphasis on personal responsibility), then taxing them... it will provide huge income for the government, save lives, and decriminalize a lot of us who shouldn't be criminals.

And sweetcoz I see where you're coming from totally... I mean, if there was no Green Party then Al Gore would be President. But still, I can't live with compromised values... I couldn't stand to pick a lesser evil. I'd rather vote for what I think is right, and fuck it if I don't win- I did the most I could. If everyone did just that, we could break the DemocratRepublican duo-opoly once and for all. There are 563 Green candidates in 41 states, running for 79 different positions. There are also over 127 Greens in 20 states holding office right now. It might take time, but change can happen!

As a favorite bumper sticker of mine says:

'Democrats, Republicans; same shit, different piles.'

well when the green party has enough votes to take a real shot at the presidency or congressional seats or whatever, I'll give them my vote. Until then, I'll agree with G-dubs and stick with the liberal wing of the democratic party and work to change things from the inside, as opposed to sitting outside and pissing everyone off by protesting everything.

voting for green isn't about hoping they win, it's showing the other candidates you's rather not vote for them

If everyone takes the attitude 'I will vote green when voting for green will actually do something,' The change will never happen. It will take a while, but it is a possibility!

well then what's the point of that? The problem is you all don't want to compromise at all. You don't realize that there are a lot more conservative republicans than liberal greens in America. Just cause you don't agree with them doesn't mean they don't have a right to vote for people who side with them. The only way you can win a major election in the US is to appeal to the middle of the road swing voters. And until the whole political system changes, which isn't gonna happen, no green candidate will ever be elected to a major office. I'm usually as idealistic as any green, but that's a fact.

if you wiped the slate clean of all parties right now, you'd have dozens of new parties soon form. and then soon enough they would realize that they have to band together and form coalitions to win elections. And it would work out to exactly what we have now: a 2 party system. This is the way it's supposed to be.

I agree with you on all of that, SVHucker... but I still have hope that with proper exposure the Green Party can break up the two-party system. All of those middle-line swing voters are going to start realizing soon the importance of the environment... we all should have already, but of course it doesn't get the coverage that say, a terrorist bomb gets. In ten, twenty years (hopefully) people will start facing up to the fact that we can't follow the old rules anymore. The state of California is already hugely influenced by Green politics... I think its only a matter of time until people start opening up.

And yes, I'm a hopeless idealistic... ah what they hell though, you try hard enough and you JUST MIGHT change things. The possibility of defeat should never be something holding you back.

November 5th - Vote Green Party! Green Party USA

yeah in california the green party just may be popular enough to put republican bill simon into office. I think simon has done enough to ensure that this won't happen, but the green party is the best thing to happen to the republican party since abraham lincoln. I don't want to see a repeat of 2000.

all this tuff about they dont have a chance is cause mos pople dont think they have chance. if everbody who would vote for them did, rather than think it couldnt happen, the races wuld be much closer and some would eventually win

-Grant-

Chicken Wang?

That's kind of the point, though... you have to take some shots before you get anywhere. Say Simon wins California, or say Republicans get the Senate majority because of liberals voting Green... well, in six years things will be fucked up enough that people will be ready for a Green government.

And g-dubs, like I said, these things come gradually. Of course Nader couldn't have won, but even the fact that he was somewhat of a contender speaks well for the greens. If there ever is a Green president, by that time there will be huge amounts of support in the government and he will have no problem finding a cabinet and staff. That's your grass-roots democracy, starting from the bottom and working up. Once we have Green mayors (which we already have), we'll have green state reps and senators, then Green US Senators and Representatives and Governors, then Green cabinet members, then... maybe even the grand old P of the USA. It could happen... even pigs can fly if a plane is properly outfitted for them.
