I like this idea. For those of you who haven't heard of it, it is different events like Moto, BMX, Skiing, Boarding, Skateboarding, Agro Skating, stuff like that...people representing their country. It should be pretty sick!

the thing i don't like is their are only a few athletes per sport. for example skiing halfpipe will only have 10 or so people

They need more comps on TV, the X-Games isn't anygood, they should make a bluetorch/54321 show just for skiing.

 
When is the Global X games on? The winter sports are in Whistler and the summer sports...anyone know where the summer ones are?

Concept:

The annual first-of-its-kind competition features two distinct venues hosting events in summer and winter action sports simultaneously, and features the world's top athletes grouped into six regions to compete for the X Games Global Championship title.

Venues:

X Games events: The Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas

Winter X Games events: Whistler Blackcomb Mountain Resort, Canada

Dates:

May 15-18, 2003

World Regions:

Six teams defining world regions:

Asia

Australia

Canada

Europe

South America

USA

Format & Scoring:

Six world region teams made up of two athletes per world region competing in 11 different sport disciplines from six sport categories:

X Games Sports:

Moto X Freestyle

Bike Stunt Vert and Park

Skateboard Vert and Park

Aggressive In-line Skate Vert and Park

Winter X Games Sports:

Snowboard SuperPipe (Men & Women)

Ski SuperPipe (Men & Women*)

Each athlete receives points for their team based on the final leader board position within their sport discipline.

Points breakdown:

1st place = 12 points

2nd place = 11 points

3rd place = 10 points

4th place = 9 points

5th place = 8 points

6th place = 7 points

7th place = 4 points

8th place = 5 points

9th place = 4 points

10th place = 3 points

11th place = 2 points

12th place = 1 point

Results from both venues will be combined for an overall team score. The team with the highest cumulative point total will be crowned X Games Global Champion. Individual performances will also be recognized.

Telecast:

11 hours of original programming from May 17-21, 2003 on ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC's Wide World of Sports. ESPN International will distribute coverage of the event worldwide.

Internet:

www.expn.com provides results, original streaming video, athlete bios, spectator information, competition highlights, photos and more.

www.espneventmedia.com provides media results, releases, photos for editorial use and background information on all X Games events.

*Women's Ski SuperPipe will have one athlete per world region.

They had a Global X preview on ESPN2 and they showed all the teams. I missed the US but all the skiers from Asia and Australia I've never heard of. Jon and Candide are representing Europe though. That'll be tough to beat.

the asians will win. they will celebrate thier victories with chicken fried rice with extra kung pow sause.

 
the us will have a pretty strong halfpipe team with cr and tanner, but europe's got thovex and jon so i think it will go like this..

1st-europe

2nd-USA

3rd-canada

the asian riders are shoya okazuki and motoki shimomura. both are sponsered by salomon. if u can remember back when X had big air comp shimomura placed top 6 in that i think.

yeah, jon and candide both did real well this season so i say they'll take it for pipe...but obviously all the other guys are good too. is there womens pipe?? cuz europe will take it in my opinion, with marie

 
the werid thing is, pipe comps can be tottaly random, it doesnt take alot for a guy to learn a mad new skill, or get new specail skis and all of a suden be on the top, soo its really hard to guess who is going to win...

yea i can see that. but jon is so consistently smooth and perfect. i love tanner and all but personally i thought jon should have received second and tanner third at the x-game. but candide definitely deserve the gold.

they had some clips at the end of the Xgames show and one of the chick skiers said she just learned to ski 3 months ago. It was pretty funny.
