I heard that if the polar ice caps melt, it will cool down the worlds oceans, and make the earth colder.

My opinion on this is that Global warming does exist but it is not complely our fault, for the reasons listed in "the great global warming swindle" and other sources that i have researched. I am no scientist by any means but this whole thing is blow out of proportion, also on another note dont pollute becsue if its not causing global warming thne its makeing us sick and u cant dis agree with that.

warming will melt the glaciers and the ice around greenland and flood the atlantic with cold fresh water that will disrupt the gulf stream which brings up the warm water from the equator 

without the gulf stream eastern north america and western europe will be thrown into an ice age

actually my opinion on global warming is not swayed by the media, but based on statistics. and yes, i have seen the real ones, my dad is an atmospheric scientist, and he goes to antarctica and greenland to conduct experiments. believe me. its not bullshit made up by the media.

Al Gore said global warming is real...i wont question him what so ever.  I love believing the popular media because my incapability to form my own educational opinion based on actual proofs and knowledge.
 
no...like i said he is an atmospheric scientist. so based on what he finds, he can tell whether global warming is happening or not. he still had the same job like 5 years ago, and even if global warming wasnt real, he still would have a job because his job is to research the climate, not fabricate facts about global warming.
 
im sorry but i can believe how many arrogant uninformed people are on this site. first off we need to get beyond the thought that it is "global warming." The entire world is not going to warm. There are going to be areas that increase in temp but there are also areas that will decrease in temp. the biggest change in our climate is that it wont be predictable anymore. I'm an environmental studies major so we have been talking about this stuff all year long.

Just so you guys can relate it to your lives i will put it in perspective. Whistler went from having one of its worst ski seasons ever to having one of its best seasons ever last year. Tahoe had a record year 2 years ago and last year had a terrible season. Utah had a record breaking year 3 years ago and the last two years have gotten progressively worse. A lot of areas though out the world are experiencing similar fluctuation's in weather patterns.

If you don't believe that we are chaning this planet at an extreme rate i encourage you to take a global climate change class or just read a book Please dont believe what the media tells you

i didn't want to have to copy and paste a ton of quotes into here but you people need to realize that not all researchers agree on the theories that the media keeps presenting as true. I am not saying one theory is right and one is wrong I am just saying that there are multiple theories and the media has just chosen to publicize one that does not have any better proof of existence than any of the other theories.

No I do not believe that humans have a large or even significant effect on 'global warming'. If you think about it logically it makes sense. Here's an easy one, for most of the NS population at least, ask your parents about it, maybe they will recall how scientists in their day were making noise about global cooling, or 'the next ice age'. I find it hard to believe that in the roughly 150 years since the start of the industrial revolution that humans have sealed their fate by emitting a gas (CO2) that you exhale. So if you're that worried about how we're going to die because of CO2 emissions, then stop exercising, it makes you breathe harder and produce more CO2. Oh yeah, stop looking at NS too, CO2 is realized when the power plants generate power to make your computer work so you can sign on this site and get your daily dose of bullshit. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with being eco-friendly. But I'll drive my SUV if I want to.

 
No he is half right about the water.

The increased temperature warms the oceans and when the oceans warm they release co2 that they hold.

It isn't direct evaporation but the co2 is released from the oceans which are water
 
ok beyond the point. look at how shitty our quality of air is in cities. even if you disagree with the scientific community dont you think it is in our best interest to clean up the air in our cities for our own health?

Think of it this way if the environmentalist are wrong then whats the negative outcome? we have cleaner air and a better living.

But if we keep our current course and the environmentalist are right then we have totally screwed ourselves over.

So regardless if reducing our carbon emissions is beneficial to the environment or not, its in our best interest to clean up
 
I have three problems with this thread.

2) You said nothing original and you may as well have put quotes around it and given the credit to Al Gore.

3) Until you use solar energy and ride your bike to the mountain and blow up any car that gets less than 50 MPG, shut the fuck up.

just learn how to carpool, ride bikes and longboard when its warm enough, buy energy saving lightbulbs, recycle............and yes go out a plant a tree or something, it really does help
 
i don't want to bump this thread again. but how can you say that it possibly isn't cause by human activity? I'll agree that it isn't ENTIRELY caused by human activity, but how can you say that all of the crap we put into the air, all of the forests we tear down, and everything else we do to rape the earth has no effect in all of this?

About 90% of the man made CO2 comes from Power Generation Plants, others are just marginal and for ur info, the next emmisor way below are erupting vulcanos. My CO2 vs Temp graphic posted way back is totally sourced on serious scientists. And saying that CO2 rises when temp raises is totally stupid and if u had seen the graph you can notice that the CO2 curve always moves before the temp curve, changing the tendency. STAY IN SCHOOL ASS HOLES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Yeah, what the fuck were you thinking. When water evaporates it is a physical change, not chemical. It can't change it's composition from H2O to CO2 magically.

Oh looking at your graph is probably better than reading the articles and research by scientists who say that co2 follows temperature not the other way around.  There are multiple articles explaining how and why co2 levels trail temperature.

14% of co2 in the atmosphere is from burning fossil fuels. co2 is only .03 percent of the atmosphere

and the oceans do release co2 when they warm. they hold the majority of co2 on the planet and are constantly releasing co2 into the atmosphere and absorbing co2.  all of you who laugh about or argue the fact that warmer oceans release co2 are idiots. no h20 is not becoming co2 fuckwad evaporation is not resulting in co2. individual water molecules are not releasing co2, the oceans are.

yeah but what people need to realize is that the earth is all

interconnected works in cycles. Upsetting one cycle upsets other

cycles. Putting the amount of excess CO2 into the atmostphere that we

do may seem trivial, but it is enough to change the pattern of the

cycles. And using what you said. Yes, CO2 may have trailed heat on

graphs of past temperatures, but (i dont know this for a fact) the

amount of CO2 we have put into the atmosphere in the past 150 years

could be enough to change that cycle too.

Another thing people need to

realize is that they need to see past the "warming" part of global

warming and look more directly at it as "global environmental

destruction".

And I know that there is a CO2 cycle between oceans and athmosphere, but it's got nothing to do with temperature. As you may know, currently we are on a "La niña" ocean phenomenom, that means cold water, THEN WHY THE FUCK THIS MONTH THE CO2 LEVELS ARE ON A DECADE RECORD?????!!

read something retard, and show me a VALID source saying that CO2 is released from hot water ...
