I dont think people building more and more things to pollute and destory the ozone layer is a phase. i think it just gets worse.

Consequently, the greenhouse effect is becoming MORE in effect, and the polar ice caps are melting like crazy.

That would sick if that effected the climate, and it didn't snow around here anymore or something. Probably wouldn't happen but that would SUCK.

theres just as much if not more evidence showing the earth goes through natural warming stages and our pollution now is nothing compared to some of the volcanoes that have erupted or the methane given off form the rotting swamps that formed the coal and oil fields all over the world

 
Global warming is already responsible for shutting down many resorts in Europe.. and is hurting many resorts here in north america. Global warming is real and its defintly a problem..

one thing you kiddies might consider is reading more in depth about the issue. Global warming now could mean colder temperatures in some places, hence why the article says 'regional climate change.'

Though the results of complete ice cap melting would create catastrophic events for skiing, just imagine whats going to happen to the world economy, politics, etc. Believe me: skiing will be the last thing you'll be worried about.

 
Its kinda Cool though, what our generation and the generations to come in the next couple decades could be the ones creating the image of skiing that will be stored in history forever when the harsh reality of no skiing actully comes

I'm in a geology class at rpi and we discussed this the other day, the affect of global warming will not have an affect on the atmosphere that will dramatically change things for 2,000-5,000 years well beyond our lifetimes and those of our children and so on. well will blow each other up with nukes way before we melt the ice caps down. so party up leave the lights on and dont be a whiny hippie.

Actually, a human induced warming could set off a RCCE (rapid climate changing event). These have happened before... setting off mass extinctions.

It's all documented in the ice. This book called 'Ice Chronicles' explains how a group of scientists went to the artic and drilled an ice core sample that gave them annualy climate information for hundreds of thousands of years.

Yes, they did find patterns. And they also found that changes in the climate could trigger a cooling event in a span of like 10 years that could last for 5,000 years.

The fact is that we are fucking with the climate by pumping carbon dioxide and numerous other greenhouse gases into the air. It may not seem like much to some of you... but a small change could trigger something much more serious.

Flatspinblunt, you have officially proved your college is not very creditable. Too bad greenhouse gases have caused the average earth's surface temperature to rise between 2.2. and 2.6 degrees celsius in the last couple hundred years.

And to CTripper, there IS proof in many graphs of temperature over time as a function of CO2.

P.s. - since may two people on this site probably know this I will enlighten you: the rising of ocean levels is only about 25% due to the actual melting of the ice caps. The other 75%? Water expands as it is heated - just a few degrees difference make world wide ocean average 5-10 feet changes. Ocean expansion, not icecap water. yep

And the US is one out of only 2 countries that have not signed teh Kyoto agreement. Russia just signed it a few or so ago. There are warming and cooling periods to the earth. But we are warmer that we have been more millions of years, and beyond the ebb of any warm period. C02 is responsible for reflecting solar radiation.. And now I think that the C02 levels are beyong 350 ppm.
