Yeah man...nobody tends to pay attention to it ( global warming ) but when its to late and the snow is all gone people will be sorry. Hell I will be to :[

"global warming" and "serious" should never, ever be in the same sentence. if you were really serious you'd say "climate change."

also, i really hate the fact that we're getting record dumps at all of our hills.

global warming is too general. some places get warmer, some get colder. science just makes us realize it quicker and worry more. if i had it my way we would still live in 1600's salem mass, the scientists would be witches, we'd kill the witches, and everyone would be happy.

which is exactly why the link that the thread creator posted doesn't use the term "global warming"

you'd think he would've realized that...

i know where you're coming from, but what's happening to the global average temperature? and does it go hand-in-hand with climate change? yes. so leave him alone, the terminology works either way.

I am all for protecting the environment, and pretty much all that goes hand in hand with "climate change" etc..but there is no way any of you can actually say for sure that "climate change" is caused by humans..but like i say..i won't argue it because the more people that care the less we have to pollute.

the global average temperature has gone DOWN 6 degrees in the last 10 years, so no, we can't use the term "global warming," because the globe isn't getting any warmer. the terminology is a bunch of al gore bullshit, he doesn't even listen to his own scientists anymore.

hey guys look!we have another kid who thinks hes a genius, and is smarter then hundreds of scientists. get your facts strait bro, and next time not off of wikipedia.

word.

Global climate change is a trend that can not be stopped. But for arguments sake, lets say that tomorrow morning everyone in north america had to go out and buy a solar powered car. Now, we will leave out the fact that to produce such an item, mass amounts of power, and materials would need to be created, and most of that power and material would be based in fossil fuels. so from tomorrow forward roughly 335 million people would be sharing 100 million or so cars that reduce emissions to zero. and housing and other heating and power systems flow to the same type of renewable energy. Its a great, albiet, extremely expensive thought.

BUt did you know, that while Ive been typing this, roughly 100,000 people have moved from an extreme rural environment, to an extreme urban environment in, china, india, and brazil? Do you think those people are using those types of power? or extensively using coal and oil to power and heat their homes? We may use thousands of barrels of oil more per capita than people in those countries, but they have the mass numbers.

Its not going to matter what 5% of the global population is doing. You want to stop global warming? go to where the people are. You want to stop global climate change, find a way to change the rotation of our planet, move the earth a few feet farther from the sun, and start finding a way to put ocean currents back to the way they were 70 years ago.

just one more thing... ice melts. get over it.

shut the fuck up, i am quoting real scientists, from all over the globe, not wikipedia. maybe you should read up on climate change and learn your shit before you make a fool of yourself.

REAL SCIENTISTS!!!! FROM ALL OVER THE GLOBE!!!! fuck dude you sound like the coal industry.
have you been getting your facts from the RNC web site?

so your telling me that the decline in global temperatur is causing all of the polar glaciers to start and melt? that would make sense, wouldnt it

seriously, i can't believe that you guys don't believe this. this is pretty much the only thing that every scientist in the world agrees on right now. if you show me ONE quote from an ACTUAL SCIENTIST, who says that the planet has gotten WARMER in the last 10 years, i will not only retract my previous statement, but i will find you guys at least 15 MORE scientists who say that the planet has gotten COOLER in the last 10 years.

SERIOUSLY. I AM SO SERIOUS.

no, i am telling you that the global temperature is getting colder. some regions are getting warmer, some colder, in the case of the arctic it is getting warmer, in the case of africa it is getting colder. just look it up before you even attempt to call me out on something you obviously don't understand.

Allergies Getting Worse? Blame Global Warmingby[/b]: Bryan Walsh 17 September 2008One of the few potentially positive effects of climate change, at least in the short term, is that increased concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere may enhance the growth of plants. That could be good for agriculture — though warming temperatures and changing rain patterns in a warmer world might wipe out that advantage. But there are no unalloyed gifts from climate change. Recent research suggests that global warming will also exacerbate respiratory allergies, as higher CO2 concentrations lead to vast increases in ragweed pollen production.

"There's no denying there's a change," says Paul Ratner, an immunologist with the American College of Allergies. "It's definitely bad news for people who have allergies."

Asthma and other respiratory ailments are already on the rise in much of the world. The World Health Organization estimates that 300 million people globally have asthma, with 250,000 dying from the disease each year. That rate is up considerably over the past few decades, and scientists say a number of factors could be at work. One clear reason is rising levels of ragweed pollen — which can be connected directly to rising levels of CO2. Researchers have shown repeatedly that elevated levels of CO2 stimulate weeds to produce pollen out of proportion with their growth rates — meaning you get more pollen per plant, which means more allergies. Even worse, it seems that the weediest species seem to thrive disproportionately in high CO2 environments. The wave of urbanization in America and much of the world doesn't help — the urban environment, often hotter and with more CO2 than rural areas, is ragweed heaven.

"Urban places, because of the baking effect of that increased concrete, definitely pollinate more," says Ratner. It doesn't help that warming will also increase the production of ground-level ozone, a respiratory irritant that worsens asthma.

Longer growing seasons in a warmer world may further worsen allergies. A study in September's Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology reported data from 1982 to 2001 showing that, for example, increasingly early pollination of the European olive in Spain led to higher overall pollen counts, similar to what is found in warmer parts of the Mediterranean; comparable outcomes can be expected in other temperate parts of the world as climate change kicks in. A similar effect will also be felt in the northward shift of what is known as the hardiness zones — meaning that northern countries where allergies were once rare may no longer be as safe.

"Those borderline northern regions will definitely feel changes," says Ratner.

The causes of allergies and respiratory disorders are complex, and scientists cannot predict exactly how much impact climate change will have on their global rates. But the recent data — records on pollen counts rarely go back more than 20 years — certainly would indicate that warming will only make things worse. So, what can be done to help millions of sneezing, watery-eyed patients? As allergy sufferers already know, not a whole lot. But any action taken to control rising CO2 levels might at least help stem the increase in global allergy rates. So far, the global asthma epidemic shows no signs of abating, and in a warmer world, effective treatments for allergies will likely become even more important. One option for allergy suffers might be to start agitating for action to reduce CO2 emissions — after all, the only thing you have to lose is your breath.

i read that whole thing, and i don't understand what you're trying to prove by it. i never said that C02 emissions weren't increasing...

i cant believe you can take global warming seriously after looking at the hypocrisy of al gore, who, at the same time as calling for sit ins a coal plants, uses more than 12 times as much energy as a local household.

yeah but that doesnt mean we shouldnt try to reduce and possibly eliminate emissions. It might not save us from the effects of climate change but it will help make some of the effects less dangerous.

Clean Energy Now!!!

Well I would quit skiing if I were you then.

Its funny, everything you do (and I do) as a skier hurts the environment. chop down trees for cores, use harmfull products in our bases and sidewall and topsheets, drive around the mountain sides in our gas guzzlers, remove acres of forest to make ski hills, then build horrible uncomfortable hotels on them, fuck up migration patterns for forest creatures, pump chemicals into fake snow that depletes resevoirs, hire dirty foreigners to come work where loc's should be working, snowmobile, ... and the list goes on.

... the funny part is, we do all that, and still want to save the world.

fuck the world, go shred, fuck em all!

global warming was talked about more last year than ever before. in return, we had one of the best winters in years. i say woohoo for global warming, or w/e the correct terminology is.

but seriously tho, theres more important things to worry about in the us right now. the globe is going to keep getting warmer or w/e whether the us does something about it or not. the economy is way more important. "oh well global warming effects our children", yeah, well me living in a shithole country that's economy is worse than madagascar's effects me now, so im going to go ahead and vote to change the economy and leave the globe the fuck alone and let it do its thing.

yeah i know.... im not even sure i belive in it but i do think the link had a decent plan and hows getting people to sign it gonna hurt (or make us witches)

ok when i wrote this i didnt want a big fat argument.... i dont know if i beleive in gobal warming or climate change or whatever the fuck you wanna call it.... i just thought it would be good if yall did what the link asked cause whos it honestly gonna hurt? anythings better than what weve got now right?

uhh global warming is such bullshit.

It is supposed to get warmer. Last I heard, we had an ice age not too long ago. Last I heard the southwest should be going through a massive drought right now. Last I heard we are 2 degrees cooler than the 2000 year average.

Global warming isn't the issue, its supposed to get warmer, then its supposed to get cooler, then warmer again. We have survived it a few times. What is the issue is that whether you believe we will run out of oil in 10 years or in 100 years we will run out. We are polluting our air horribly. People are having health problems. We are cutting down trees that important species live in. We are poisoning the water that we drink. We are fucking up the environment like never before. So yes, I'm totally for clean energy, cause its clean. I don't want to be breathing in smog all day every day. I want to stand in LA and be able to see the mountains in the summer.

So clean up the air for us, the planet can handle itself.

haha no. I agree that maybe our average highs are a little higher than last year... whatever. But we are supposed to get warmer. Do you seriously think that this is the hottest the planet has been since people have been here? if you do, you are delusional.

We are contributing more greenhouse gasses sure. But so are cows. So are volcanos. But what do we do? we cut down the plants that turn that CO2 into O2.

So lets quit calling it global warming and call it what it is... unhealthy air quality and degradation of our land.

im with you we are still in a little ice age. and yeah, gore just wants the money. with his god damn huge oil consuming house and private jet... whats that smell?

I completely agree on you about how skiing is a very polluting sport and that kills me, but that doesnt give us the excuse to forget about our environmental impact and do other damaging things

^ i didn't read what anyone said up there but what i think is that the snowfalls we've been getting were what we had about 10 years ago or somethin(say my parents) so it hasn't changed a whole lot, but if we don't do anything soon in the next 10 years theres not gonna be this kinda snow fall and its gonna keep

gettin worse

I did not say it's the hottest it's been, if i did, you're right, i would have been delusional. Just two points: Who are cows bred by and any large volcanic eruption in history has lowered the earths atmosphere rather than contributed to its heating. In fact there's ideas out there put forward by scientists to build machines to pump sulfur dioxide into the stratosphere which will be up there for two years, blocking a lot of the suns rays and hence cooling the earth. Sound fucken stupid to me, but we are nearing the tipping point and if we go past it, stupid resolutions like this may have to be adopted. The atmosphere is warming to a degree by which will trigger other more cataclysmic warming effects such as the melting of the permafrosts in Siberia and the conversion of oceans from sinks to emitters of CO2. So it is warming. Global warming, most people will see the effects as global climate change because of global population distributions but overall, it is warming. But you knew all this.

Very, very well put. Don't you guys think it is a little weird that Al Gore just randomly came up with this idea of Global Warming and now has made millions off of a crazy Idea?

you sound sort of like one of those guys that thinks the american govermant is a total sham, i mean it sucks dick, sure..but you sound like this is all a plot for them to get more money or something...
