Global Warming Scare Hits Ski Country

And before anyone freaks on me, do I believe in global warming? Yes, but I don't think we have nearly the impact we think we have. Do I have any evidence to support this, I'm sure I could dig some up. Anyway, I still think its good to clean up the planet, so I'm not against any "green" stuff. I just think everyone is getting a weeeeeee bit crazy with it, but it doesn't hurt anything so I'm for green

this is all bullshit. if you seriously believe that, you should be shot. Look at last year, record snow totals all across the map, and you are going to tell me that is global warming? give me a break

if that was directed towards me then you should prolly think a little before you post. I was just putting it out here, seeing what people think. Personally i agree that things are being blown out of proportion, but im still all for going green, cause the thought of there actually being no snow in 100 years is awful, my kids and grand kids would be left in a world without skiing. And i mean, you know, better safe than sorry right?

its not just global warming. its global climate change. So cal is in its worst drought ever. What it does is switch ocean currents and therefore mess up the balance of weather completely. it will ultimately end in an ice age

Warmer air temperatures and/or warmer waters create more storms. More storms create more precipitation. In the winter, that precipitation is in the form of snow in ski country. The winter season may become shorter as temps stay a little higher in fall and get a little warmer in spring. It's not going to stop snowing in the high country. Record snowfall from last winter does not necessarily mean that the earth is not getting warmer. Colder summers, however, are a better indication of the opposite.

you know that global warming is just as likely if not more likely to cause a 'big freeze' where temps drop 6-15 degrees than this occuring. i watched it on nat geographic

ur full of shit global warming aint about snow totals u tool its all acrost the globe and it happens to be an excellent senior thesis u ass

first of all its global climate change, with some areas getting colder with others getting warmer. Also, it's normal for the earth it goes through a cycle of cooling (ice ages) and warming. Honestly, if we weren't warming up I would be more concerned.

its just the media blowing this shit outta proportion. I think it was to stimulate the economy with all this "eco-friendly" shit. Some woman came up to me the other day driving her first generation prius and said something about my suburban. I let her know that the fuel needed to create the nickel in the battery of the first gen. prius is worse for the environment than my suburban (debatable but you get my point). People who think they're better than everyone else for "stopping global warming" pisses me off. We as a general population give ourselves too much (for lack of a better word) credit for our toll on the environment. If you're doing something that you think is good in the long term, good for you keep up the good work don't push your shit in my face though.

i agree with you.. its pretty cold in upstate ny for beginning of oct time.

that al "globalwarming" gore was full of shit..

What?Last year was the longest ski season I remember and i've been skiing for 14 years.
Not to sound like a blasphemer, but if you look at the actual data, you'll find that the earth goes through cycles, and that actually, the highest temperatures were recorded in the 1840's long before industrialization could have been a problem. Stop worrying about global warming and start worrying about deforestation, or pollution. Those are far more pressing.

Oh and one more thing.
Why would you ever listen to Al Gore and his group of crony celebrity friends on a scientific issue. In what way does being an actor or rock star or politician qualify someone to be an expert on climate change. The real scientists have no idea what's going on so why would Al Gore.
Think for yourself, don't be swayed by glorified power points.
Sorry for ranting.

Cool, my town just had one of the coolest summers on record. Just sayin. I just think this whole global warming thing is a lie. And even if we were causing the earth to warm up, how the fuck does that really even affect us? Im sure that rising sea level would be the biggest factor if this were true. And yes, relocating would cost a shitload of money. But, destroying the economy with regulations isnt exactly cheap either. The only enironmental problem we really should be worried about is deforestation and the destruction of habitats through oil spills and littering. global warming should be the least of our worries when it comes to saving the environment.

Wow, unbelievable.
Anyways, anyone who has been up on the glaciers for the summer camps for a period of 5 years or more can see pretty easily how much the glaciers are disappearing, and how fast it is happening. Camp lanes that were there 10 years ago don't even exist anymore, the glacier in those areas is straight up gone, it's just rock underneath now, and even with a big snow winter (or even 10 big snow winters in a row) those glaciers are still vanishing at an incredible rate. I give Whistler camps another 5-10 years at best.
