Global warming isn't real

The rate we're seeing now is not natural, and we're contributing a hell of a lot more than 2%. Think about it for a second. Carbon has been stored in the earths crust, slowly accumulating as plants and animals die (fossil fuels, yay!). Its a vast amount of energy, collected from billions upon billions of organisms over hundreds of millions of years. Its taken us under 200 years to burn all of it and release most of that carbon into the atmosphere. And you think that we're not changing our climate significantly?

I disagre, and all the evidence given above adds evidence to my argument.

Here's another side:

We have not burned up "most" of the fossil fuels in the world because the majority of them are too far down to reach.

We cannot reach the extra oil or whatever fossil fuels we can use because our technology to claim it is not powerful enough.

When that happens, oil prices will go down, and the entire political structure of the world will change drastically.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH

Fuck, your still stupid as shit

The machines nessecary to get that deep/remote oil arent going to come cheap. You think the Oil Companies are going to suck up that price for our sake? Fuck no. We're going to be paying for it...right now we are currently FUNDING it.

And go google 'peak oil' before you come back here and say anything.

And the shit about eruptions is crap. Volcanic eruptions release a lot of gasses, but the only real important ones are sulfates. Mt St Helens didnt release shit in terms of sulfates, but Krakatoa? That eruption released enough SO4 to lower the global temperature and give Europe its "year without summer". However, a tiny eruption in Iceland one year lowered the globes temp by a whole degree because it was mostly a sulfate eruption. It really depends on what eruption your talking about when it comes to that. But that statistic sounds misleading.

Its not only carbon and sulfates we should be worried about. After carbon and sulfate molocules bind with the ozone, they are filtered out of the system. Flourocarbons however, like the stuff we use to make teflons and all, stick around up there, forever fucking up our atmosphere. Scientists arent even sure how much harm they can do, since they arent natural.

Its not even about what the hell it ejects.

Its the smoke that comes up that raises earths albedo and drops the average temp.

And for all those great sources you guys are pulling up that say global warming isnt occuring: Heres my answer!

Straight from Wikipedia (which is completely ruled by the media and greenpeace):

"The current scientific consensus is that "most of the observed warming over the last 50 years is likely to have been attributable to human activities"[2]. The extent of this consensus was the subject of a study—published in December 2004 in the journal Science—that considered the abstracts of 928 refereed scientific articles in the ISI citation database

identified with the keywords "global climate change". This study

concluded that 75% of the 928 articles either explicitly or implicitly

accepted the consensus view — the remainder of the articles covered

methods or paleoclimate and did not take any stance on recent climate

change[3] [4]."

Oh cool, it even copied the links so you can click and see all the evidence. Neato.

The point is that even a rise of 3 degrees could cause a collapse of the climatic system as we know it..there's a difference if we have -2 degrees at some glaciers or +1

"....was tested by analyzing 928 abstracts, published in refereed

scientific journals between 1993 and 2003, and listed in the ISI

database with the keywords "climate change".

The 928 papers were divided into six categories: explicit endorsement

of the consensus position, evaluation of impacts, mitigation proposals,

methods, paleoclimate analysis, and rejection of the consensus

position. Of all the papers, 75% fell into the first three categories,

either explicitly or implicitly accepting the consensus view; 25% dealt

with methods or paleoclimate, taking no position on current

anthropogenic climate change. Remarkably, none of the papers disagreed

with the consensus position."

ummmm, actually is has a lot to do with what it ejects, he's right...

flourocarbons are wicked bad, because they don't chemically change they just stay in the atmosphere.

sulphates are also bad because when they do change they cause things like acid rain, and climatre shifts. depending on thy volcano, they can be just as bad or worse then a factory/power plant

where the hell did they get evidence from 400,000 years ago

and that brings up another topic i dont really want to discuss in this thread but some people believe the earth to be less than 15,000 years old

First point, Ice cores from Antartica. Every layer of ice contains the shit in the air at that time.

Second point, if your hardcore catholic, apperently you believe the world is only roughtly 6000 years old.

god this thread is annoying, first off people who have absolutley nothing to say except links find it nessesary make this thread have a million new posts a minute, nobody can say for sure who is fully to blame for it, and nobody can predict when its going to "destroy the world we know". also, people who say it doesnt exist at all are clearly dumb, im sure you are right, its just a huge conspiracy theory aimed against... wait if its a conspiracy theory, who is it aimed against, dont even think of saying bush or i will kill you because you know what, it was being talked about with clinton. What needs to be done is reesearch, what is going on is people pointing fingers and jumping to conclusions. we need research, and results with answers, it should be science at this point in the game, politics can come later

The major greenhouse gas is water vapour, and the nature of CO2 / water vapour interactions is not clearly understood. Moreover, James Hansen (2000) downplayed the role of CO2 as a greenhouse gas.

Antarctic ice cores in one study show carbon dioxide concentrations increased by 80 to 100 ppm about 600 years after the warming of the last three deglaciations, while in another study Antarctic ice core data show that CO2 levels lag an increase in temperature by 900 to 1200 years.

World Climate Report shows that annual growth in concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere have remained essentially flat from 1975 to the present - during a time of maximum production of CO2 from fossil fuels. This casts doubt on the claim that rapid and dramatic build-ups of CO2 will occur in the future.

We know that CO2 from the burning of fossil fuels was not the cause of dramatic historical climate changes, for example, 1000 years ago, in the Medieval Warm Period or in the Little Ice Age that followed from about 1350 to about 1860. We are still emerging, in an oscillating fashion, on the warming trend that came after the Little Ice Age. Global historical temperature data is readily available, for example Canada, Mediterranean, Alaska, China and Canadian Rockies.

In the 20th century, there was little correlation between temperature changes and CO2 levels. Some surface temperature measurements show a 0.5°C rise over the past 100 years. However, that average hides some significant details. From 1905 to 1940, a rise of about 0.5°C was measured, during which time there was an imperceptible rise in CO2. From 1940 to 1975, the temperature decreased about 0.2°C, while CO2 levels started to increase more rapidly. The out-of-sync relationship is obvious.

it's the same evidence that skeptics use to say that the earth has a natural cooling and warming cycle.. they drill deep into the ice and can measure the C02 levels that are trapped in air bubbles with a high degree of certainty. Problem is, our current levels are off the charts as to what has been previously measured.

I would love to see that second claim backed up though.

I don't know if global warming is true or not, personally I don't think it is, but either way there is no proof for either side. I'm not sure how long temperature has been taken for but ill guess like 500 at the very longest. 500 years of temperature is like drop of water in the ocean to our planets length. There isn't enough evidence to support either argument

That's why there's still an argument, if there was enough evidence for one side to be winning clearly then there would be no debate.

Before people start running their mouths on a 10 year cycle where the earth cooled down, take a step back and look long term. No where is global warming measured on 10 year scales. This shit is long term. The weather fluctuates from year to year.

So if this year is colder then last does that mean global warming is wrong? No. If you belive that it means your a fucking idiot.

Its the average over long term periods of time we are looking at here. I would expect a legitimate line graph showing this to have nothing less then 100 year intervals to explain recent trends and nothing less then 1000 or 10 000 year intervals for anything farther back.

You are completely right, just becuase its been warm for the past like 5-6 years doesn't mean were all going to die and antartica is going to melt

statisticlly speaking the worlds conditions are dramatically improving, anone who fails to recgonize this is a fucking moron.

no that is just cars and only for a day. think about it there are 10's of millions of cars in the US alone 100's of millions if not more in the world, all producing carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in huge quanities. and know one likes you.

wow wow wow wait up man i'm stoned but i'm pretty sure there is two readings in your post man that doesn't make sense

the only 'debate' that exists is one for public support.

There was and still is a 'debate' as to whether or not smoking cigarettes is bad for your health.

well you are partially right. global warming is through the solar effect. solar energy comes to the earth through the earths atmosphere. around 30% of this energy is reflected back into space and the other 70% is absorbed into the earth. there is a differential of the suns heat warming the earth and to the space cooling it down. thats why its colder at night, because theres no sun energy. its coldest in the morning right when the sun is rising because the most solar energy has left the ground.

now the 30% that reflects back into space has been decreasing from the greenhouse effect. the greenhouse effect is caused by carbon dioxide and methane (and other related chemicals) these gasses stay within the ozone making it more opaque and more difficult for heat to escape. however you can argue that it makes it more difficult for the energy to go in, but the energy is far more powerful before it is reflected by the earth.

so now technically you can have 25% reflected and 75% absorbed. thats a small portion, but its still extra heat in the earth from greenhouse gasses.

yes i do believe global warming is also natural. there is no perfect equilibrium between the coldness of space and the heat of the sun. its not perfectly balanced and the heat that comes into the earth will not compeltely deplete and hang into the next day throughout the night. so it is naturally getting warmer

yea im doing a research paper on global warming right now so i have a hot mind about it

i am all for keeping the earth clean and everything but the earth goes through natural processes of heating and cooling. I agree that it would help the environment if we conserve energy and reduce pollution but the fact is GLOBAL WARMING CAN NOT BE STOPPED............. it is a natural process which humans are not accelerating . it has to do with the magnetic pull of the sun. think about it as a magnet on a refridgerator. the further away you are the less and slower pull there will be. The closer you get the stronger the force is. this accelerats these changes in the climate. by that i mean the periods of heating and cooling. the democrats and the media have scewed the idea of global warming and created a giant misconception.

People that claim that global warming isnt true are business people so they dont have to pay money to modify their industries. Just watch the day after tommorow, it is happening right now, the confict between scientists and climatologist and politicians. The scientists will aways be right in the end.

we could try. or do u believe that all the cars and industrial immissions have absolutely NO EFFECT on the climatic change? You r really ignorant if u think thats right..i know that no one wants to lower their standards (going by train instead of car, etc) but if we want to influence the planet positively we should start doing this IMMEDIATELY.

i just cant fuckin understand why you all doubt this.. you are skiers!arent u afraid of having no snow in 15 years?

its "your argument" its other peoples that you quoted. global warming is real thats not even debatable any more.

earth has warmed more now than it has in the past 850,000 years in the last 50. the only debate is whether or not it is human caused. which it is.

the temperature of the earth is directly influenced by the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere that has been scientifically proven. humans are increasing the amount of CO2 into the atmosphere that is undebatable. therefore if increased CO2 always leads to increased temperature and humans are increasing CO2 emissions then humans are causing it.

i didnt cite these sources but i only included simple info that someone like you could understand easily

so if you want you can look it up, but right now i am taking a class on enviornmental sciences specifically global warming at UC Davis but im sure that someone who can ariticulate there argument so well as you cough posting other peoples opinions cough are very educated about the subject

i have every reason to belive global warming is fucking up this world. tommrow is december first. today was 60 degrees out. i was sweating

I FUCKING HATE FUCKING WARM FUCKING GOD DAMNING ASIAN FUCKING HOT WEATHER

i speak for the rest of the east coast.

yeah try and tell me global warming isnt real when every year it takes longer and longer and longer for winter to get here. hes right it was 60 degrees out today and i cant stand it. mount snow had to close down after they opened cuz they arent able to make snow. IN DECEMBER

yeah its december, and all i have on the ground in northern canada is mud, and rain water.....thats it.....soo fuck you.

FUck yea im right you haters are allllll wrong!!! yeaaaa mothafucka im gonna go drive my car, O WAIT, my family has 1 car for 5 people and solar panels on our house, we are doing shit for the enviro!!! my dad bikes to work everyday!! what noooow, im gonna go drink 100% natural organic juice and be good to the earth. Go drive your SUV's or something. Rasta Out

just think if you lit a butane lighter in your house, your house smells or a little bit. now think if you burn a bigillion gallons of oil a day all across the world, you dont think it fucks with the ecosystem? i want fresh air. i like nice smelling cold crisp air
