Glidecam or new lens

Hey guys I was wondering if you could help me decide between getting a glidecam or a new wide angle lense. right now I just have a t3i with kit lens.

I am in your situation, sort of, I wasn't sure so I bought a glide cam, interested in hearing what others say though, I will probably get a lens too pretty soon.
 
get a new lens. the kit lens is pretty crappy imo. and a nice lens will make your shots look a lot better than a glidecam with the kit lens will. what lens were you thinking of buying.
 
I am in a similar pickle. I'm planning on taking more pictures this year so I think I am going to go with a good lens before the glidecam.

 
Dude drop like 100 bucks on a fast 50. The 1.8 by both nikon and canon are amazing. You might be thinking ohhh I already have a lens that covers that range, but this is a meager 100 bucks for a lens that's sub 2.8 which is great. Really start messing with the DOF, low light and stuff it's fun.

And then you can still buy a glidecam anyways!
 
You could buy say a 11-16 for $500 bucks but then you have no use for it except to stand next to a feature. 18mm isn't too bad and you'll prob stop down a bit so it wont be that bad, I've seen some decent stuff from the kit lens and having stabilization makes a huge difference.
 
The kit lens isn't that bad, it gets the job done. I would honestly go with the Glidecam first just because stabilization is more import and learning the camera. A lens can wait awhile, get yourself some good video equipment then worry about the lens.
 
no, real glidecam first. not cheap alternative and shitty lens.

if i were you i'd buy a tripod before anything though, i mean your camera is pretty much useless without one
 
Haha, ok, I have a tripod and other gear, and as far as the lens goes, I have heard good things about that 8mm 3.5, I know that the 11-16 is great and I would really like one but the budget doesn't allow for that right now so the question is, is the 11-16 really worth waiting a year to buy or will the 8mm get things done in the meantime? Sorry for the partial threadjack...
 
As you learn and get comfortable on the camera, the kit lens is fine. The biggest issue in my opinion is stabilization. Get glidecam now, upgrade lens in the future when you are super comfortable with the kit.
 
i disagree with most the people in here saying to get a new lens. i got a glidecam first and that was a way better option. the kit lens isnt good by any means but it also isn't bad. if you can learn how to get a good image with the kit lens and master a glidecam, then your shots will be that much better when you do upgrade glass.

plus a new lens isn't going to fix exposure and focus and white balance and all that stuff, it will just make the image a little sharper. get the glidecam, thats what i did and it was the best purchase ever
 
Agreed, buy a decent tripod before anything else. The weight of a decent tripod will be enough to operate as a steadycam for the time being. A cheap good tripod will be about the same price as the glidecam and will be your most important piece when on a shoot.
