Are you guys aware of glastonbury.

If not then it is a festival that is held in Somerset UK where loads of people go and camp out in field, spend 4 days slaughtered, getting caked with mud and invariably soaking wet. There are loads of bands that play and it is meant to be sick.

My question is whether you guys in North America or anywhere else have these sort of festivals or is it just an English tradition? If you are in England over the summer you really should try to get to one of the festivals.

watching it on tv now, dont like the killers, but they are fucking good live. Babyshables were good as well, it is a serious mud bath there tho

some guy died there of a drug OD there yesterday, and 1000 people got injured because of the mud, lol, but 150 quid is way over the top, to camp in a muddy field

Only fests I've heard of in the colonies are woodstock and phish concerts. They're all horribly lame. There are no regional or cultural events worthy of mention in the US that I've heard of or seen. That's what you get when your entire region is only 200 years old and all the 'traditions' are the faded reminants of the immigrants who came here. I love all the 'Irish' americans here who can't even tell me what a county is.

so i take it you dont have big festivals where 200,000 people turn up, instead you get massive gigs when 200,000 people turn up for 50 cent or whoevers big over there

shrug, cant be that big if nobodys heard of it :/

Yeah in the states ips, theres only really small scale ones. Most of them are street fairs moreso than giant outdoor bashes, and its usually only in major cities that contain areas with ethnic groups who still celebrate their old holidays and such. Even then though you have to deal with idiots throwing festivals that are less about having a good time and enjoying food and culuture, and more to do with rallying for affirmative action so your filipino wife can go to college for free. People in America feel the need to make an activist rally out of everything rather than just relaxing and having a good time.

Only BONA-FIDE thing, of course, is St. Patrick's day, simply because there is no culture associated with the American-Irish other than drinking and firefighting, and everyone loves fit guys and beer, that's a cause everyone can get behind! But even then you have idiot gay pride groups wanting to march in the parade waving pride banners. And when the organizers deny them, they complain about persecution. Don't people understand that its a parade for an irish holiday and not to trumpet sexuality? Hah! I'm sure they got no quarrel with the gays, but theres a time and a place! It's only a matter of time before they pass legislation requiring us to allow them in and trash another traditional holiday.

Glastonbury is a HUGE thing. it is the biggest open air festival in europe. 180,000 people are believed to have shown up this year. there are over 1,000 artists who played there. the place is like a small city. and i had the privelege of going. and the ticket being 150 it was totally worth it, considering that a lot of that money went to worthy charities. if any of you can, go!
