I just went up today and checked it out. There is more snow up there now then there was in early june last year! Hopefully I'll make it up there Sunday with a group of kids from whitefish. If you can, grab your gear and get there

If I get a chance, I'll post some pictures from today later tonight

There should be plenty of snow up there for a while. I didn't get a chance to post pictures after Friday, but I will post some after today. We should hopefully have at least a solid month of skiing up there.

I just went up today and had one of our more successful jumps up there. It was a fun day. But first, here's a couple pictures from friday.

If you are reading this, I would recommend trying to get up there sometime soon.

dude kip!! we need to go up soon! let me know if your planing anything, cuz i will probably buy some treckers soon but let me know if i need to buy them real soon..

Yeah, if you are in the parking lot looking at the visitors center, the mountain past the visitors center is Clements. They are at the bottom of this mountain on the main snowfield up there.

^Trekkers would definitely not be necessary up there, but they wouldn't hurt i suppose.

okay...i have never actualy hiked up to ski there yet.. so i wasnt sure if it was necessary or not.. im just lazy hahah.

Anyone heading there Sat or Sun? I've only ever gone by myself so it would be rad to run into peeps who are chill enuf to let a chick who likes to get air (but can't do any tricks, yet) hang.

The hike is brutal. I destroyed a camera from sweating on that hike, which is why I got the Olympus waterproof this past season!

Alright, agreed I was asking for a rebuttal describing the hike as "brutal" and I humbly looked up "IMO" in the urban dictionary. The hike is easy, IMO the hike is brutal because you work hard for no elevation. I've probably just never been when there's a solid boot pack. Thankfully, this season I'm able to skin.

I drowned my camera (inside pocket) on my first ever hike up. I had to prove to myself I could out-hike the guy who was talking himself up to the tourists in the parking lot, ignored my questions, arrived and started ahead of me. That was years ago and I'm way over wasting energy on egotistical dudes and unfriendly people.

It sounds like this needs some explaining. The hike is NOT brutal (unless you are racing some dude and going as fast as you can). I think skinning up would be adding an unnecessary amount of weight to your trip due to the shortness of the hike. The hike is probably about a half an hour if you take your time. Unless you are planning on touring around all day, I would leave the skins in the car.

apologies hansel, shouldn't have marched the brutal parade over the point of this thread, encouraging people to slay GNP. thanks for posting pics! background slopes shown are already track-tagged

the visitor's center hike is unique due to the steady audience of non-skiing visitors hiking to Hidden Lake, to the left of the visible bowl under Clements. The mile hike into Hidden Lake is GNP's most popular hike. Boot pack to these kickers pictured is probably less than half mile, hansel??

called GNP's unpublished direct-to-person info line: 888-7801, to ask when gate offices open for park pass purchases http://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/entrance-fees.htm. Helpful person could only stress road is open 24hrs but he's not allowed to disclose the gate's exact business hours.

and partyers be warned, if you get caught w open containers or drugs in a national park, its a hefty federal offense

This is true, any hike can be turned brutal when you dont properly pace yourself. I have tried to outhike people or get way ahead and you just end up burning yourself out.

Does anyone here know who was filiming on Saturday? Couldn't really tell because they were so far away, but at one point it felt like there was a tripod pointed in my direction. If they did, I'd like to bug them for copies.

This coming weekend me and about 8-10 Great Falls and Lewistown kids should be up shredding if anyone wants to meet up with us or camp we will probably stay at Apgar.

hahah come to think of it kip, i think when i had that family reunion last year we stayed in apgar village and we all would call andy Apgar.. hahahha

after past two weekends, report for travelers:

built features completely melt in a matter of days

-ex. approach track from pictures above is now exposed rocks

stoneman's line is still skiable

possible 30 min wait from west side w single lane & contruction

thanks bro!

i didnt land it so i cant claim anything too much, but practice makes perfect.

that was such a fun trip to though.. all the MT NSers should plan a weekend next year sometime too... Cuz we had everyone that skis at Showdown in our group up there pretty much. It would be the biggest hostile take over since Sliced Bread!!!

shoulda referenced the above "did you know" stoke fact to http://www.nps.gov/glac/photosmultimedia/webcamgallery.htm

shoulda also posted my video-log where the sd406 crew makes a cameo appearance as specs at 0:06:

flash_video_placeholder.png

hopefully, your sd406 blog received some extra hits from my tgr thread http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128927, which I didn't intend nor think would become a puzzle.

please learn from my stupidity:

1. don't bootpack with bare knees against the slope

2. beware of posting on tgr if you don't know the guy they apparently pay (fulltime+?) to create aliases and rip on people, unless you like that sort of thing. seems the guy who ripped on me to your crew in person that saturday in gnp knows him and does like it. he shoudln't be talking like that about me because if I have to defend myself with the truth, the truth would embarass him. his business partner can verify that fact.

I totally understand why you were on your knees bootpacking that day we saw you lol. It was so fricken hot up there that day it was hard to boot pack anything. Plus you went and skied that hour glass right? Me and a bro were going to ski it but bootpacking across the super exposed part on top before it rolled into the actual chute was scary enough under those conditions. Thanks for giving us some extra hits. Our blog is probably blasphemous to the eyes of the TGR forums. Thanks for offering us beers btw. We left them behind with your skis since we figured 2 beers for 9 guys was a little homo haha but thanks any way.

are you the guy with the cream colored toque or black hat in the blog picture header? you were very friendly. was your bro there that saturday?

I didn't get all the way up to the hourglass to which I think you're refering. 2/3 up the 1st snowfield the wind started to gust and a little raincloud starting drizzling directly above me with blue sky mostly all around . . . so profoundly humbling. that snowfield was ice hard a few inches deep so I was more worried about the slope degree, cliff below, weather . . . and possibility somebody was filming.

your blog is only blasphemous to tgr because you dudes are real and not pretending to be other people. my ex posted on my avatar thread over there and I want to out him so so bad!! can't log onto tgr I'm so incredibly tempted (+ that paid dude committed over-the-line acts against me and owes me $50 can only hope to ever receive). I somehow know the true identities of at least half a dozen other people who have spent years building false identites on tgr . . . what a kooky investment of time and energy.

anyway, witnessed sd406crew skillz and I'm more than happy to hookup promo anytime! especially in exchange for trick and jewel basin tips :)

I was wearing that Custer battlefield trucker hat all weekend, I think I talked to you on Saturday about bindings or something. Bibs_skibum, pat_in_the_hat, tjski, ferrinski86, s.matchett, and d-roc were all there to. Youre in Missoula right? Because I will most likely make at least one trip out there to shred. Maybe you could show us some sick spots.

you are always welcome to shralp the gnar with the sd-crw anytime! if you go to showdown i gaurantee the park will suck but u will have fun with all the shinanighans (sp?) we come up with.

just finished running the equip for a distance learning class (sites in zoo, boz, gfunk, billings, havre) for that prof that hiked in gnp and he said snow was accumulating above 6000ft, even in the vistors center lot. klaus is a skier so I don't believe he'd joke.

yessir, in missoula and at times the extended fam place in the flathead. this season I'd like to compile shots of peeps throwing down on those neon pink celebrities, med prinzess bindings fit 280-324mm boots. would be a break-em/buy-em contractual deal. interested?

tank-you very clutch! about a dozen times a day I have to google, define:word-I-want-spelled/defined - no space between "define:" and the word
