ok well last week it was brought to m y attention on the high speed sixpack that mt.washington was closing for the season and whistler had only 30 of 200 runs open, now someone said whistler is closing down for three weeks. is there hope that high north and the other glacier camps will be able to open this year?

yep but they definetly are going to have some trouble keeping that shit open until the later sessions. I was up there last summer and the snow was definetly lacking when they had a good snow year.

no i think he means out west.....but in other news....Parks service just measured the base in tuckermans ravine with super long avi probes and the got to 35 feet with now end in sight.....this year tucks is gonna hold snow into august

ya my mom said she heard on the news that many west coast ski areas were getting much less snow then normal. serously; will there be whistler summer camp like normal?

there isnt much snow at whistler but its not closeing and like 90% of the runs r open. the glacier could be pretty hagard and iduno what HN and COC r going to do

that sucks that so many of the top areas are having sucky winters. Cuz here in Tahoe the snow pack is above normal and it looking like we could have coverage well into june

the glaciers are melting at a very fast rate and by the time were 40 or so HN and CoC and mt hood shouldn't be camps any more because no more glacier my math may be wrong but the glaciers are melting at an enourmously fast rate

^if its a cause of global warming, colorado or Utah would be the place for a summer ski camp, the further u go north or south the effects of global warming grow exponentially, so the closer you are to the equater the less effect it will have on you. Maybe we should all move to Chile.

i bet that there will be camps on mt washington in nh....if they currently have over 35 feet then ill def go up there in the spring and summer to ski. set up soem rails when you cant ski the lines. i dont know how you would get rails up there tho

abasin is usually open until july 4th, but there are certain places where theres snow year round like st mary's glacier.

Being out there skiing every day, good or bad, just playing around with friends, with no contests or filming- that is the real spirit of skiing for me. that is why i started skiing, and if i lose those moments that is what will make me stop skiing.
 
yep, the features will be incredibly small this year, if anything. The later sessions ive heard could be only activities with no skiing. In any case if you are THINKING about going to camp this summer dont do it, or at least go for one of the early sessions to avoid disappointment.

I just had to do a project on this. Because of global warming glaciers are receeding something like 2-5 inches per year. Theres pics from Chamoinix and you can see how much that glacier has receeded over the past 60 years. Stupid warmness.

dude, snow coverage in Washington state sucks. There is only about 30 inches of snow pack, usually compared to about 100 for a normal season

You dudes should highly consider going to empire freeride in montana this summer, they are getting alot of snow this winter around there from what i hear. the glacier will be solid, the park will be awesome, and its real good people there. I went 2 summers ago and it was well worth it, gets better every year

Unless Whistler gets dumped on in the next few months, I doubt very much that there will be any camps this year. Regardless, all the good camps have cut down their sessions in anticipation of a shit year. Nonetheless, any Whistler camps will be fucked if there is no more snowfall, because there are no snow guns in the glacier...can't even make up for the lack of snow...unless of course they helicopter it in...which i doubt. Good luck at any rate...

 
HAHAHA, you rich kids, and also kids that actually work for your money(which I really respect) are worried too much. Trust me I live in Whitler and the camps WILL NOT BE CLOSED this year. They will go as planned, but most likely, unless a huge dump happens, the features will be decreased and will also be smaller. As for the kid that said 'lets have camps in bella coola', HAHA another laugh at that cause I have been up there and there isnt anything flat enough to actually put features on. Unless you wanna be doing rails at a super steep angle then go for it. So to recap, yes camps are open, but unless you have gobs of money to throw out then I would suggest waiting until next season when the El Nino effect wares off and things get back to usual.

 
I called COC and they said that they aren't going to have apipe cause of lack of snow, but everything is going to be just as big and just as good. I am going there for Session A is anyone else.

 
it'll be better than a non elnino year cause there will be la nina which means lots of snow and cold temps.
