Im sick and tired of the lack of respect given to racers from other skiers. Yes we do have to where spandex when we race but thats about the only bad thing about racing. Were damm good skiers, at least all of us that ski at the FIS level.I don't mean to be rude, but for allaround technical skiing we really can't be beat by people who don't have race experience. We don't spend all our time training, we usally spend our afternoons freeskiing, building kickers and pulling tricks in the park. So im curiose why do we get trashed talked by fellow skiers everywhere we go, things like 'ski racing is gay' and all that shit. I don't know about you but going 135 km in a downhill and hitting a jump(yes there are jumps in downhills) and going 100+ feet is gay. Anyways im just trying to set things straight, cause were no different then all you newschoolers.

 
chill 'bro,' I haven't been feeling any of this anomisity that you are talking about. I used to go to a ski academy back East, and there was respect all around the table. My boy Cooper Friend who used to kill it at the national level also threw some of the biggest baddest 1080s I've seen.

Boyd Easly started out racing and now look at him. And who can forget about Jon's racing background.

Like I say concerning snowboarding and skiing, if you're any good, you can see the difficulty in the other sport, and therefore find respect. Only 'suckas' trash talk...

Hey I'm a racer. Yeah it's fun you get to see hott guys butts in spandex. And I don't see anything wrong with that. And as long as the people love skiing not just the skiing in the gates part, then they're all cool. I always make fun of my racers friends when I can't even teach them a spread eagle. But to bad for them. Some of them, a LOT of them would like to learn tricks. And to the people who like everything that has to do with skiing. YOU ROCK !

Racers are amazing skiers, but I find it boring. Its just something I personaly wouldnt do. I dont have the drive for it, I respect that you guys do.

I'll spend my time freeriding because I would rather ride for myself than a coach or a time.

i use to race and i'm glad i did...it made me a way more technical skiier than a lot of people...but ya gotta admit, there are those kids who race who're just super lame...like the ones who go out and buy all this expensive shit on mommy and daddy's credit card then can't do beans...i'll admit there are some kids like that who freeski also, but not as many and i think the kids who freeski b/c its more of a non mainstream sport do it out of their own pockets more than anything else.

The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs.
 
I also used to race and I can ski all mountain awesome because I did race. I think racers are good skiers but I had a bad experience w/ one. I was standin there at the bottom of the hill an this racer was racing his friend an he sucked. He looked at his friend an rode right over my twins leavin 2 lines in each ski. He then got his ass beat an was left with a broken ski. I havent liked them since (no affeance to anyrace who hasnt done anythin stupid like that) I just had a nad experience with one

sorry but i have a problem w/ racers that think riding the park and hitting jumps is gay...wow u can go around gates going fast...mano! some racers are cool tho, that have an open mind, but if u race and just think everything else is gay cause its not an olympic sport goto hell...other thing is i dont think its that challenging, my friend went to boarding school and has never raced before and was their best racer...thats pathetic

 
Yeah, I don't care about racers unless they piss me off by cutting me off in the terrain park,talking shit, or acting like they own the place. That stuff deserves some dissing.

Some people like some snowboarders, make fun of newschool skiing. I dont really care. I like racing, backcountry, the park, everything. You got to realize somepeople are just stupid and cannot appreciate all the aspects of skiing. Why should you care? You are doing what you love, racing. Besides you're probally 10x better than 90% people that give you shit. So Just go and Race and forget about it!

i used to race and it made me a better skier too

the racer friends i have keep their 1080s in their car then after training they head to the park with them. theyre just skiers that go both ways..i just cant handle the spandex thing..wear it when you absolutely have to..not in training or in the lodge!

Dude, you got it easy...not that many people trash racers...try being a ski jumper. They think we wear spandex too, and no one in north america has any knowledge about our sport...at least people know what you do. And as for our sport being gay??? let's see you go 225 meters (over 750 feet) world record set by Andreas Goldberger. On a normal sized jump, we go over 350 meters, and fall the height of a 13 story building, yet somehow people think we're gay.

alright....now i don't rip on racers because they can beat me down the hill.....but i will rip on them when they're in the park. i mean they'll bring trains of kids and go off our jumps slow as shit. or they'll go off the jumps set up to rails and make weird ass groves i them and then i have to fix that shit. it's gay. so when i cuss someone out in the park, i do it for a good reason. if you don't let the faggots know what they're doing wrong, they'll never change. as for me thinking acutal racing is gay. it's not cuz if you washout going 130 kmh you're gonna be hurting........but yea.......naked chicks are nice

fis sucks... long jumping is the crazy sport ever. one bad crash and your pretty much dead.

Racing is alright cauze you learn to ski well, and hold a nice controled carve.

Aerials is the hardest disipline to master.

fis ruined mougals.

Respect style.... what every it is... if it's a yeti on olin iv... let him feel young again.

I think that tonnes of people are ex-racers. I know that I am, I raced for like 12 years or something nuts like that.

did the whole fis level thing, etc...

but, there was an unbelieveable attitude that a lot of people would have. I know that in race training, you are constantly told that you are the best skiers on the mountain, and me and my little race crew used to act like that.

Most of the animocity between different factions of skiing exists because we're all led to believe that we're the best.

As I always have to say, we just all have to chill out and go skiing.

If you encounter a racer, learn how to bust a mad carve, then take him to the park, lend him your skis and teach him how to slide a rail.

then we can end all this stupidity.

racers at my mountain are gay.........they come racing through the park in packs and 'surf' the pipe. They're also stuck up rich boys too....maybe they're the ones that give you a bad reputation

Sorry man, racers are not the best skiers on the hill, moguls skiers are. bottom line. But thats not to say that racers are bad or anything. You just learn a lot more body awareness and balance as well as super quick technical edging abilities. Not to mention it just looks more right than the 80 foot wide stance. but who am I to talk, I'm a gorilla maffia member...

yeah. racing is a bit more natural where bumps are just completely weird. it's like taking the worst conditions possible (bumpy) and trying to have a race where finess counts.

Sorry Detictive, our 80 ft wide stance is way better for all mountain skiing. You can't really get any ski performance with your legs stuck right together, but i still have huge respect for your sport as you have to have great fitness and balance

i never raced, and the only reason i wish i had was for more experience, i gotta say most racers on the hill (and off) are stuck up bastards who think they're god's gift to skiing. plus what's the fun in racing if you have to race an ice course on a powder day? i wouldn't give up my powder days for anything. oh, and about freestyle skiiers, i'm just looking forward to the day when the majority of them stop it with the boring ass spread eagles, twisters and daffys, and when someone does a 540 then skis the rest of the moguls fakie

 
i have respect for racing but not for too many racers. only bescuase of there attitued. from my exsperience the majority of racers think they are better skiers than all the park skiers. ive met some cool racers though. but a lot of the racers ive met who ski park think bescause they can huck 3's and backflips they are bad ass

Fuck, I've never raced and the reason I don't have to much respect for them is that they use to bitch us and laught at us when we were building jumps in the old days. And you don't absolutely have to do comp before you get good, I never competed and I consider myself a pretty good skier, I don't know a lot of people who can loose me in any terrain, and the reason is that I enjoy every aspect of skiing: bumps, speed, powder, jumps, rail, trees.

I just think thats the best way of enjoying it, doing everything, but I respect people who only do one aspect of it, but I wish they'd wake up and start getting better overall.

Anyway isn't skiing about having fun and partying?

I use to race and well i wouldn't wear those gay ass spandex. I said to my coach what will it do take off 1 second and then i can be 4th not 5th. so i think all racers should boycot spandex. then the field would still be equal and u wouldn't look so gay. Racing does help with the funamentals of skiing which do carry over to the park. so it did help me 2

i'd like to see you go 120 km/h in a ski suit that flaps in the wind...ever heard of wind rip....the force of the wind that pulls you out of your tuck and throws you back...that's why racers wear spandex....and over the whole corse....it'll be a little more than 1 s difference....personally, i think people need to suck it up...the only reason people complane about spandex is becuase the people who actually wear it have bigger huevos than the people who complain!!!

 
I'm not a racer, but my girlfriend is. She hasn't competed in years, but she kicked serious ass back in the day (mind you, she was prety young) Now, although I do wish I could convince her too take bigger jumps and do spins and stuff, there's just something about a girl who's hot and who'll tuck a double-black diamond. You racers have just as much, if not more balls than the religous freestylers. I've seen quite a bit of negativity towards racers, not just on here, but everywhere, and it sucks. You shouldn't be allowed to ski unless you can respect the racers. just like you shouldn't be able to snoboard, unless you respet the skiers.

one of my good friends has skied for 6 years he isn't a racer. he has skied the park only and placed second in a racing competition. the local newspaper told about his second place saying: '...his second place was a big suprise for the sponsored racers...'

i hate those racers who think they are the best and shit. they surf in the pipe and destroy our park cuz they can't jump and if they jump they mess up the jump and then they 'have to' fix it and then i have to go kick their balls and then they are running down the hill telling their parents what i did then i say to them: 'screw you, they mess the park cuz they can't jump.' and then i go away.

i can beat the racers and i haven't been in a team or what do you call it. bah, i don't respect them cuz they don't respect me.

well i guess im a part of the small percent of racers, that don't talk shit or cut people off and think im the greatest, if you guys are ever in the okanogan or the kootneys most of us(fis racers, i know that a lot of the younger racers are pretty cocky) are pretty cool about ripping it up in the park, plus we can show you some pretty sweet terrain

I wouldn't be as good a skier as I am if I didn't race. going to a ski academy lets u ski everyday and when you go to races it gives you the opportunity to sample different parks and stuff.
