Hey guys so just bought the giro shiv, and although i like it and its lightweight i literally feel like i can break it in my hand. Im only 110lbs so I'm not that strongn and with the littles punch it makes a dent. And when i bring my to hands together i can feel the styrofoam can easily break. Is this really going to protect me like the ski shops say? i already have made it my own but i want to hear any info from you guys.

First off, I have never owned, used, or crashed in a Giro Shiv Helmet. Take what I say as you will.

But my buddy used one for two seasons and seemed to preform admirably. He took a few dingers but all in all it held up great. I would say that it is definitely a on hit wonder. Any big hits and you'll probably want to replace it. He crashed big on a cliff and after inspection it was certainly not up to doing its job anymore.

That's my input again take it as you will.

do you really think giro, one of the world's biggest helmet manufacturers, would put out a faulty product, putting thousands of lives at stake?

yeah i agree with east coast it is probably defective. i would call up or email giro, because a few years ago i had a pro tec, i know this is kind of a different situation but has to do with the same thing. any ways i had a protect talk a pretty simple fall just fucking around on a groomer and the helmet cracked down the back so i talked to them and got hooked up with a new helmet. so i say just talk to giro see what they think, for all you know it might just be a saftey feature on the helmet. good luck

everyone at my moutain including me has shivs and they work great and like my frend has so many dints in his helmet from rails and he is fine

Helmets are a 1 impact kind of thing, if its saved your life once then its time to replace it, you know? Its supposed to just fucking explode and break when you fall so that your head does not. I'm sure its an awesome helmet, Giro has protected me successfully for years :D
