So what is the difference? Is one better than the other?

i don't care as long as the bassline is pumpin / the drumline bangin away / make one move and i'll blow you away / one false move and i'll blow you away
 
One is an "inmold" construction the other is a two piece. The basic difference, the 9 is not made to take more than one "bad" fall. The shell deforms to absorb the impact. The s4 is more durable but much heavier.

I have owned both, I liked the 9 better but it only lasted a week before I had 4 major deformations from falls.

 
The nine looks more like are "freestyle" helmet.

i have a giro nine and its a good helmet used one season about four times a week and i haven't had any problems with it it has taken a few hits and no problems so far

 
there's some cool giro helmets coming out soon i believe, well this coming season. Someone posted a link to the product line they are releasing. couldn't tell u who though, sorry
