Giro Encore vs. Smith Holt

i have zero experience with both of these helmets. ive always worn giro, but have heard good things about the smith. things i want to know:

ventilation comparision

weight comparison

fit with crowbars

good for summercamp?

i dont know anything about the holt, but the encore pretty much sucks. giro 9 and g10 are great helmets tho so shell the xtra dough. encores r just kinda shitty tho
 
yea i have a g10mx but looking for a lite weight park helmet for pure park and spring skiing.
 
I like my holt. Maybe not the best for camp, seeign a sthere's not much ventalation. But the non goggle fog thing actually works.
 
I was gonna say the encore sucks because you cant close the vents, but if its just for sunny days, its an ok helmet. Neither is amazing when it comes to ventilation, but the smith does work well with smith goggles, if you have some.

Neither is going to be amazing overall, so I would just see which fits better. I would also check out the RED helmets too.
 
yea i have an encore and its not bad.. its pretty heavy but until i try on a better helmet ill stick with the encore..
 
encores fucking BLOW. they are cheap, heavy as hell, fit really wierd and have mad pressure points. poor venting as well. if your looking for a helmet, trust me, your 1000 times better off to spend a lil extra dough and get a lid that fits better, is lighter, and has better venting. g9s and 10s are some of my favorite helmets, giro is a great company, but the encore is not a good helmet. i sell lids all the time at the shop, and literally like EVERYONE who tried on encores bought the more expensive 9s or 10s after trying them on.

alot of these new helmets like encores, bakers and other skate style lids are really a step back in my opinion. sure, they do look sick, but theyve ditched all the technology that went into making a helmet wearable, light, good venting, and good fitting. the only lids with that look are the RED Hi Fis or whatever theyre called, and maybe a few others. id really reccomend a slightly more traditional lid. your head will thank you later.
 
I have a G10 and I've never closed the vents ever, does anyone ever have their head get cold and need to close the vents?
 
I ride on storm days a lot, and hate snow getting on my head. When its storming, vents are closed. Every other day I leave them open, but I probably get like 10-20 storm days a year, and that was enough to justify getting the G10 over the encore for me.
 
i have an encore and i really like it. it can get a bit toasty though. its also a little on the heavy side. but its still good
 
any other more skate sstyle helmets you would recommend? ive heard about the pro tec i think? any thoughts?
 
WORD. read my freakin post. the G10 IS a park/freeride helmet. nd they are better than 90% of skatestyle lids too.
