Girls on facebook.

I just assumed it was the lyrics to some hot new song, never thought once of breast cancer. So there planed failed, I was looking for a song, nowhere close to research. And to the guy who comment about made the prostate cancer, I agree

one of my friends had hers as "likes in on the kitchen table" i know for a fact that her and her bf have had sex on that table. i commented on her status, she quickly deleted her status haha. silly women

Do we seriously need an awareness campaign for something that everyone already knows about? Awareness campaigns are for diseases that the majority don't know anything about and are therefore forgotten about when it comes time for charity and research.

I'm pretty sure the whole idea behind it is so that a bunch of self-centered morons can feel like they did something good while doing absolutely nothing at all. Pat themselves on the book because they did something for breast cancer.

yup the girls at uni throw dinner parties every fortnight.
and the girlfriend enjoyed dinner very much on monday night.

well thank god for this. I had no clue what breast cancer was before, or even that it existed at all. So i did some research and thought "well this isn't right, now is it?" And then i made some phone calls, and it turns out, it's not right.

I know I know I know!!!

guys should write in their facebook status what hand they like to jerk it with to raise awareness for autism.

"I jerk it with my left hand"

Seriously dude...the women get an entire month and not to mention the fact that its thrown in our face for the entire month by media.

apparently testicular cancer has an awareness week April 1st - 7th.

haha don't be silly they don't have public kitchens. sorry too easy.
p.s. i chose not to believe it

The fact that a thread was created means that the awareness is being further raised and the facebook "status update" is a success.
No publicity is bad publicity.
We all may bitch about how stupid it is but even NS is now raising breast cancer awareness :)

Except he was being sarcastic I'm pretty sure.

Seriously, we all know about breast cancer. Why don't they have an awareness thing that has something to do with curing it? Or treatment? Or where to fund it?
Seeing some girls make an innuendo that they don't explain just makes my mind wander, not compel me to do research on how to stop breast cancer. Sure we're talking about it because we're curious, but is anything going to come of it? No, because the girls don't know shit about it either, most of them are just posting the statuses because they want to feel good about "doing something for breast cancer", and get to be suggestive at the same time. /rant

I think people are misinterpreting the definition of awareness. Awareness is to get more people to think about breast cancer and to get them ULTIMATELY do something. The last part being key.
Of course we all know about breast cancer in one or another but do we all actively do something to further the research or help out? No! Awareness is getting the word of mouth around, and well making people AWARE of the issue.
This Facebook thing is not getting any NS people to participate in breast cancer because well.... DUH we are guys we don't own purses the targeted demographic is different.
With awareness being at a all time high there might be that one person who normally wouldn't have gone the extra mile.
It all comes to effective advertising
Now it could be argued that this Facebook is "dumb advertising" but again no publicity is bad publicity
/rant

I can see that. I can also see that with it being on everyone's mind, there will probably be at least one person who will think a bit deeper and do something.
What I was getting at was that I can see a lot of these girls feeling like they've done their bit to help against breast cancer, and will be less likely to actually do something useful later. If this idea for statuses was started by an organization (which it probably was), then every time someone started talking about the statuses they should bring up the organization. Enough people would check it out, and learn something that they don't know. Maybe make a donation. You know, something useful. The way it is right now, people may be talking about it but that doesn't change the fact that most people don't know what to do to help. And the method (the stupid statuses) isn't going to trigger a very serious response.
So though whoever started it probably has good intentions, in reality I think it's just another internet fad to get girls to feel good about themselves. It's not the fact that people post the statuses that bothers me, it's the fact that they think it's going to make a difference.
2 rants about this shit... fuck I need a life.
