Girls and guys competing

there should be more competitons where guys and girls compete together in my opinion. It will be hard at first, scaring away girls from competing, but overtime i think some girls will come out and battle it out with guys. Maybe thats the motivation girls need to get just as good as the guy skiers, so we dont just win with a 2sev out from a rail or 3s with grabs. its embarassing to be given money or prizes or even get sponsored for doing tricks guys could do 8 years ago. and there are girls out there who do try and can ski well that can beat a few guys, and im not saying im one of them but if i was able to compete against guys i would try harder..i know that, but we are waaaay too far behind and something is needed to be done to catch up because we're never going to catch up knowing we can win doing what we do everyday...i dont even know if anything i said made sense. thoughts..?

Completely for it. Its not going to happen with events like Opens and such where you have a set number of runs at first, I think it will need to start out with more of the jam format competitions. But yes, totally needs to happen.

yea i think its a good idea and the way girls are progressing these days they would probably beat a few guys

i know i was just kidding. Girls are really ripping it these days

sounds like a good idea to me. Girls will get better seeing as they need to take it up a level to beat the boys, and boys might get better seeing as it might be embarrasing to be beaten by a girl:P

you ski well-er than i do. and creighton has a crush on you, and not me. damnn im losing pretty bad at this game

i agree that would help women progress a lot but how would that help men at all. seems like you'd have to kick some deserving unknown kids out of comps to make room for women that don't really deserve to be there.

i would be for a girl and guy session judged on style.

i agree that there should be no separation because of gender in ski events as well

competitions are not the best thing for skiing in my opinion

think of all the killer movie segments that never happened because of injuries during comps.

the fact that you are saying girls aren't as good as guys because they need more motivation from them from comps, says something. u wanna be pushed? push yourself... or have a friend call you a big pussy over and over Hennie taught me the majority of my tricks through "u pussy", though I'm still a little bitch... call me LB

haha yea or what works for me is I'll see someone of the same age or younger throwin somethig sick that I havent tried. and im like holy fuck even that kids doing 'it' i better try.

or i just keep tellin myself its not a big deal, just 180 more than this, or w/e.

helped me shitloads this season.

everyone "deserves" a chance to compete, there are some guys who arn't as good as others and they take spots of some who could possibly win and deserve to be there, but thats the way life works. knowing you take a place of a person who is much better than you would push you way more.

and i do try to push myself, my friends dont call me pussy unfortunatly, but i know that i suck at skiing so i try to get better. but i still think competing with guys would motivate me and other girls to get better at a faster pace? or something

i dont know but im not up for arguing on the internet so i wont post much in this thread, i just wanted to read your thoughts.

no, guys are better than girls at skiing period, omg biggest trick a girl throws at the us open, a grab 3 or maybe an ungrab flail 7, biggest trick a guy throws, switch cork 10 or maybe something else dont remember

and I'm not trying to say u or girls in general suck, (because you kill it) I'm just suggesting being very forceful in getting yourself to learn/try new stuff is probably the best way to start getting even more rediculous.

I don't think comps are the solution to anything. I think we just need to start doing cooler shit.

Theres not enough girls who are anywhere near the level of male pros, maybe a handful IF that. I'm not being a dick im just stating a fact

"so we dont just win with a 2sev out from a rail or 3s with grabs"

i'm not sure if your talking about male and female combined competitions or not, but if you are, i know EXACTLY what you mean. a couple friends and i were at a small rail jam comp in CT and one of my friends and seanyj (claim) were throwin down competing for first. obviously sean got 1st (he won skis), but it was sooooooooo clear that my friend should have gotten second and also won skis (which were thrusters i think). But there was this one girl in the comp who was ok, but the best thing she was throwing down was like 270 out of a flat box. My friend was doing switch 2 on, pretzel 2 out of the flat rail. Now, tell me whats better - 2 out of flat box, or switch pretzel on flat rail. That's what i thought.

Anyways, i made me a little mad. Cool story hansel

Even though many people dislike competitions, you have to agree that through comps, skiers started doing some crazy shit.

Yes, messing around in the BC and having sunny park days with all your friends is good fun. And you can definitely do cool shit and push yourself without competitors breathing down your neck making you try harder and go bigger. But some of the sweetest moments I've ever seen have been in comps. Girls can do cool shit, no doubt, but I think you have to include competitions if you want to see accelerated progression.

the best i ever did in a comp was during an open rail jam, girls and guys

i think it would be a fantastic idea to have combined comps. it would definitely push girls to try a lot harder because the level of skiing would be raised for them.

I suppose comps make some people "progress," but I think the ski community's obsession with comps is the main reason why ski movies are terrible compared to snowboard movies and ski magazines are terrible compared to snowboard magazines.

I think having more girls film with the guys would be more productive than having them compete with the guys, but then ski movies might suck even more...so I don't know.

yep she got 2nd without hitting the rail over my bud's switch pretz.

the FEMALE announcer even said something like "and she's not winning cuz she's a girl, she just rips". well sure shes ok for a girl, but seriously, how can you even say there was no sexism involved there. it was the worst/most sexist judging i've seen in a long time for any sport

that's really gay. if they wanted to give her the skis, they should have at least just made a women's category for her and said she won that.

hmm i would completely have to aggree.. at both the louise and silverstar rail jams you were better then 70% or the guys there. so i would have to agree, how ever your on a lightly different level then most girls so most would get slaughtered.

i'm sure girls are allowed to sign up in guys categories, if not just be like:

FUCK YOU NIGGA DO YOU KNOW WHO THE FUCK I AM? then ash out your cigarette in the registration retards eyes.

maybe together in a jam session, not against each other but just competing together. but there's no way top pro girls could compete at top pro guy levels.

skiing is athletic enough to be grouped with other pro sports (non contact at that) that chicks would have no chance of seriously competing with top males; tennis gymnastics volleyball track and field etc. etc.

You'd kick my ass in a comp. Also, I think that you could have finished top 3 with tricks like that at both of the big air comps that happened in my area last weekend. Keep working hard, you could definatly compete with the best girls of the industry or win local comps at small hills.

good idea I suppose, but I feel like the levels of competition in girls and guys are so different that it would be a bit of a joke to have them competing together. The girls who are ready to throw down with the dudes should just enter male comps and go for it.

oh and Kristi Leskinen is sooooo redbull.

girls suck at skiing, boys are sick. dont put two together. but you should try it, i think your alright except learn how to grab your spins so they look decent

theres no reason why girls and guys should be competing in different categories. How well you ski has nothing to do with your sex, a guy is not more naturally apt to throw switch 10's than a girl.

to be fair, there are a few unbknown chicks who slay hard, but yeah for the most part guys > girls

Seriously. IF that is what will help YOU get better, then do that. You have skills so do it!

The bigger solution to encourage more participation is for all comps is to eliminate entry fees for women and kids 12 and under in the local contests and maybe some regionals... And make sure there is enough swag for the girls and groms for them to all come away with something for their finish.

thats not true. in horseback riding even at the olympic level guys and girls compete together.

i think guys dont have a natural advantage over girls skiing, except ski racing because most guys will weigh more than their female counterparts. yea guys have the advantage because they tend to be more ballsy, but as far as athletic ability i think they don't have any advantage.

Is horseback riding even a sport?  I think women tend to get injured a lot easier and tend to be smaller and not as strong--and while that may not be as relevant in a rail jam as it is in halfpipe or big mountain stuff, it's still a factor--i think skiing is more comparable to soccer or gymnastics or something like that than horseback riding.

haha i hate it everyone says that. like driving a 4legged 1000lb car that has a mind of its own and no airbag/seatbelt...

press mute haha...i just looked it up on youtube.
