Girl skiing

Obviously good girl skiiers are harder to find than a good male skiier. i'm a girl, and am curious, what is the best trick you ever saw a girl pull off? And why does it seem so much harder for girls to do bigger,sicker tricks? is it the weight, muscle distribution in their body? PLZ comment with any knowledge or opinions.

thanks for reading!

++++karma for posts!

idk what it is about girls, but i think the style girls bring to skiing is always so smooth. Like all the pros and girls i see in the park are always really smooth with everything. If their were more girl skiers,there would be more big tricks thrown down. Even though the few pro girl skiers are throwing down huge tricks. The biggest tricks i've seen a gril do were like 270 on, switch up, 270 out on a DFD rail and she also could pull some really smooth 3's and 5's.

i think there are more girl that are good skiing out there than people think, you just need to know where to look. if you look outside the park you will find more big mountain skiers than you would think! :)

i think girls are just a little more scared than guys so they never throw it huge. obviously there are exceptions but over all. this is why the tend to live longer than guys. but technically girls should be better at skiing since they have a lower center of gravity.

i disagree i think girls are concentrating to hard on getting more tech in terms of more spins and flips and not enough time perfecting their style. It seems to me that should have almost better steeze then guys because lets face most girls are more flexible then guys. I think a girl needs to come out as the steeze queen and hopefully chicks will follow her lead.

now in eastern PA theres about 6 le i said.

i think with girls they dont care as much as guys. like ill go out and learn a trick but im not going to if i dont want to. im just gonna do whats fun for me.

probably on the wrong website but ingrid backstrom is the best girl skiier alive hands down there arent that many guys better than her (go on, make a laundry list of guys, I can make one 10x longer for any other girl guaranteed).

I know several female skiers who can handle their stuff on the race course superbly and a few who know their backcountry.. but park.. none. It is a bit weird I guess. In the UK Uni big air competition, if the girl pulls a 360 she is basically guaranteed a top 3 spot.

there are some chicks at my home mountain (baker) and they kill it, not park, but big mountain, pow, cliff type stuff. omg its great to see a good lookin chick launch off of a 30 footer, stomp it, and ride away like it was just a little bump

few girsl at PC that throw down. saw a girl spin a 10 on the last jump in kings crown, and its like a 65 foot step down. pretty legit

Reckon reason there aren't so many park girls is because the female freestyle aspect hasn't advanced at the same pace as the male?

Because.. it's not like there aren't good female skiers out there, I know plenty...

thats pretty sick too. i give any girl major props if she can do cliff pow stuff. thats hard, pretty insane stufrf at times, and for a a girl to get out there, i wish i had the confidence

++++++++++karma

I went to queens cup like 2 years ago in Park City and there was this crazy girl who had gotten a really bad concusion in our practice runs. The day of the comp she was hucking really nice smooth cork 5's. It was amazing.

But really she was phyco. not someone I admire as a person. It's a possibility she was on PCP.

i seem to be seeing more and more girls in the parks around here, but they are not hitting much. but last season i meet a couple of girls that are getting really good and they were mad chill ! but as for the style factor i think it will come with more time in the park.

ive seen a chick throw 5s before and even some pretzels during a slopestyle contest

dont worry theres more really good girl skiiers out there than u think!

I know a lot of girl skiers and they always end up either taking pics or videos or just plain following us around its like they want to be around the good skiers but they dont ever try anything

Dude that sucks because all girl skiers are not like that. Those girls your talking about give us a bad name. pisses me off a little.

i think a lot of it has to do with numbers. there are fewer female skiers out there than male skiers. especially in the park. if there were more girls like us that wanted anything to do with skiing (outside of the weekend warriors) there would be more girls absolutely killing it. that being said, i moved to vermont this year and started skiing mad river. the best skier i met all year was by far a girl who showed me around mrg.

in one of the warren miller films ingrid backstrom throws a dub back flip. probably the sickest thing ive seen a girl throw

well i've seen both Claudia and a-bat throw switch 7s, but i've never seen a girl who links tricks like Ms. Bouvier. most girls just do one hit wonders, and most girls just hit the small jumps or first jump on the big line at keystone, but claudia was throwing switch 5, to 7 to 5 really smooth on the big line...i was a little turned on to say the least.

There are many ways to break this down. First off, in the park i think the main reason is because the women's side of the sport hasn't progressed as much, so the they don't have to throw down as hard to do as well, but that doesn't mean they aren't capable. In the big mountain side i think women throw down just as hard. Back to the park, naturally men are more muscular because of more testosterone, so their physical strength has potential to be more, but i don't think that it necessarily helps for everything. If you look at womens gymnastics compared to men, in my opinion, the women look better because of their finesse although the men do crazier thing i.e. triples. So you apply that to skiing and the outcome is the better execution of tricks for women, and the "gnarlier" tricks for men. That is just a theory though, not fact. Also skiing is mainly mental and that is where women may have more trouble because they seem to think of consequence too much. When i ski i always think of what im gonna do and think what's the worst that could happen, even though the worst is obviously death it just helps me because it makes me realize that i am able to do the trick.

In a nut shell, women have potential to be the exact same as men, they just haven't reached that level yet. I mean look 8-10 years ago men were having trouble doing 360's and a switch 7 would win a comp, now its progressed, just as womens skiing will do, in my opinion.

see i can ride switch down anything im like almost pro at the shit haaha and i know some girls that can keep up with me and in t-ride there is this one chick that will hit all the jumps switch....well most of them but she has a steezy style and she is pretty good but idk what it is with the weight thing....wouldnt be able to tell ya

i know tons of girls that are legit skiers. there is this one girl that we skied with last year that had never skied park and by the end of the year was doin 7s in pipe and 5s off decent sized jumps. girls just need more time to progress and really, just more girls!
