ever thought that the negative attitude we have towards gays and their marriage is the kind of ignorant backwards thinking that affected our nation of one people during the 1950's era black segregation???

i wonder how our children will feel in 50 years?

no marriage is defined by a union between one man and one woman. They can have civil unions. gays are cool, but im sorry they just cant have marriage because marriage is something else.

you really are a douchebag. honeslty i don't even try to notice but its awfuly blatant in every single thread along these lines you post in. we get it. your an athiest. you don't believe in a god/gods. we don't care.

and for the record i'm not terribly religious at all, it's just your stance and bullshit is quite tiresome.

word doggie. i heard on the news that when gay men are married some of the pastors, and priests dont actually open their bibles so the marriage isn't "official". I hope my kid knows the difference between right and wrong

the kid is right here since the government is supposed to seperate the church and state. So wouldn't they have to come up with some reasons of other than just than exactly what the church says. It's tradation that's held in religion and people are challenging it now, eventually most states will let gays marry. Never the South tho. The only issues with gays is letting them have kids since there is not a father and a mother which would of been a good argument 50 years ago when there were not a lot of single parents. Why not have two dads or two moms instead of one.

epic fail.

im pagan.

norse pagan to be fancy with it.

and seperation of church and state? hmmmm....

i had a good point so im a douchebag.... nice logic there holmes.

and i havent changed my opinion since i registered, if im the worst thing on this site that botheres your life so much, get the fuck out.

what the fuck are you arguing about? You are going to oppose the liberation of a group of people because of nomenclature?? I could give a shit what they call it ...these people deserve rights like the rest of us

PS i think we will look at it the same as segregation in 50 years

and i find that it is incredibly ignorant to support the confederate flag

i didnt argue with you're opinion and/or sep of church and state, or the fact that you may or may not be gay, i don't have a problem with gay marriage or anything else along those lines, just the way that you preach in threads that don't even call for it.

and you don't bother my life at all, nor are you the worst thing on this site. you're just a tad overbearing. sorry you got so worked up and for calling you a douchebag. my mistake. holmes. goodbye.

People are so stuck in the past. The "marriage is for a man and woman" bullshit is so ignorant. I hear people say they don't care about others being gay, just gay marriage. That's like saying, "I don't care if black people exist, I just don't want them to have rights."

Banning gay marriage is discrimination. Don't try to deny it because it's true no matter what retarded right wing way you look at it.

Hold up a second. Are you suggesting that by looking at our ignorance in the past, it could help identify bad things we're doing in the present? Like... history repeats itself, and we could learn from it? Mind blowing..

is it wrong or just against ur beliefs?

I know ppl who are fuckin conservative extreemists, who take the bible literally to the letter....there was a part he read that was along the lines of those who eat nothing but vegetables shall rot in hell....so he belives that being a vegetarian is a sin against the lord...anyways i digress...

the fact of the matter is that we live in a country that was based on the idea of the individual having rights, no matter what their religious or moral belifs may be. SO as long as they are not hurting anyone why shouldnt they have the right?

Not all people are god fearing religous belivers, others are wicken, pagan, atheist, mormon, scientoligest, etc.. they have their own belifs on what is right ans what is wrong. I know gay people who are christian, go to church, wear a cross on their neck, and believe that jesus is their lord and savior.

now I may not like the idea of being gay, i find it kinda gross, but i do belive that they should have the same rights as any other law abiding citizen. And as long as they arent raping children or killing ppl im totally fine with whatever they wanna do to each other.

So u can sit there and hide behind your close minded beleifs and hug your bible and go "its just not right, jesus doesnt say its right!!" but honestly you should go pull ur head out of ur ass and just ignore it if it bugs u (like i do with george bush)

please explain.

I also find it semi-ironic that author of this thread has a rebel flag for his icon. bravo sir. bravo.

ive been pretty bored this summer, been watching episodes of superman/batman cartoons that i loved when I was little during the 90s. who would win in a fight? batman, or superman? my money is on batman, I'm sure he'd have some kryptonite in his utility belt

i think that its rediculous that American citizens arent allowed to marry whoever they want if they feel like it.

and batman would beat supermans ass, pardon the gay pun.

I think gays should be able to marry because its a personal choice. However, i do believe that they should not be allowed to adopt children because that will affect that childs life in most likely a negative way, and the child would have no say in the mattar. Who knows though maybe in 50 or so years it will be normal for gays to have children.

i like the south park solution for this. let gays have the same right to marry as straights, but to make it called something different so the people who get angry about them being married wont gripe so much. butt buddies probably isnt the best word choice though. but seriously, cant believe this hasnt already been done

Exactly

Marriage is not only a symbol of love, its about legalities too. For example, who get the money, pensions after the death of the partner. Religious leaders dont have to recognize it, but the state does. Gays have rights and freedoms too. If you denying a same sex oriented person the same rights that a heterosexual person has, you are restricting freedom...and who loves freedom?

this is such an ignorant way of looking at the situation. this was the term for marriage back in the day. when if you didnt get married in a church it wasnt even legal. now-a-days, people who arnt even religious get married on beaches and in the mountains, shit you dont even need to be married by a man of the church!!!

everyone is entitled to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness right? well if people who are in love with eachother want to get married, who is anyone else to tell them they cant make them selves happy?

how is having two fathers or mothers going to affect the child? being gay is not a choice...so in no way can it affect. i have a friend whos mom is a lesbian and she was brought up by herself and her girlfriend and it has not affected her at all. if anything it has helped her be an open minded person and also helped her friends become more open minded too.

I have no problem with homosexuals or any group of people of that sort and I believe that politics has no business in the bedroom like Pierre Trudeau once said (old canadian prime minister). However I believe compromise needs to be made in order to maintain unity in society. On one hand you have the religious, traditionalists holding onto the religious aspect of marriage and on the other hand is the same sex couples looking for legal aspect of marriage. We need to find a middle ground. I believe that same sex couples should be able to have all the same rights as a married couple legally. Which is actually more than a civil union offers. So expanding civil unions needs to be done to include all the legal advantages of marriage. However legally they should not be considered a married couple. Theoretically they will have that title but not the legal name. Thus preserving the religious aspects for traditionalists. I know its a little unsettled but its a compromise and both sides get what they want. Everyone has equal legal rights and marriage keeps its religious ties

For the record I am agnostic but I understand the importance of compromise to attain unity

How is being gay not a choice? I know the whole deal about how they can't really control it, but I think thats just an excuse. I have nothing against gays my brother-in-laws brothers gay, and they are cool and nice people. I see what your saying, and i do think that is true that it can affect the child in a positive way. I think its more that gay men should not have kids because the child won't be able to recieve the same love that a mother could give him. I could also see kids giving him a hard time.

what the fuck?

are you gay'?

no?, probably not.
were you born straight, or did you decide one day, you know what, i like girls and just girls. why look over there what a babe?

you=bullshit.

people are born with their sexuality, just like skin color. wh would choose to be mexican in america and be discriminated against? noone.

just.. just fuck you. your retarded

Dude, he said is is NOT a choice.

Its just a matter of belief, like the dude with the JOPro icon (sorry I can't remember your name) said. No one gets riled up over Catholic vs. Prodestant or whatever? Open your minds people, this is America, the Land of the Free, so they say. They're just people, and they should get to do whatever straight people can. I find it odd and sort of repulsive, but I try to ignore it and treat them like people, because they ARE people and deserve everything that PEOPLE get.

ok theres one of 2 things going on here.

A) you didnt read his post correctly cuz your a moron

B) your contradicting yourself left and right because your so unsure of yourself on this subject. yet you once again piss people off to the point where they shut you down, and then you have no legitimate response to it

we are all human beings why should they be treated different than straights? gay= human straight= human. same rights for everybody.

negative effects.....such as.....making the child more open-minded to differences??...
the child isn't going to become gay just becuase it has two mommys or two daddys...its not going to be emotionally damaged...unless its parents are just bad parents and there are plenty of heterosexual parents that to awful things to thier children and lose thier right to be a parent....my mom works with a women who just adopted a beautiful baby girl from russia with her partner. they are loving and caring and the baby is doing great. even if the child has "no say in the matter" i think it would rather have a good life with two lesbians for parents then have a shitty life in an orphanage in russia....

the bottom line is how can anyone as a compassionate human being deny another human being the right to love, to marry, to be a parent, and to have a good life?

if a homosexual couple finds a pastor who will open up his bible and marry them, then what's the problem?

trust me i have no side to this argument i think there are things to be said for both sides. but if a pastor opens up his bible then he's misused it because the bible is against gay marriage so i guess it wouldnt be legit? thats my interpretation

^if only it were that simple....
civil unions and legal marriages are equally recognized by the state for benefits....so while a heterosexual couple gets "assumption of spouses pension, automatic inheritance, automatic housing lease transfer, child custody, divorce protections, domestic violence protection, INSURANCE BREAKS, certain property rights, joint bankruptcy etc etc etc (there are 1049 benefits of legal marriage)....

civil unions only get a fraction of that (25 to be exact according to vermont and conneticut legal benefits of civil unions)....therefore...its not equal....and thats the problem...

good points^^^ its not equal and not fair, its DISCRIMINATORY, therefore its bullshit.

as for my icon, fuck off, heritage not hate.

wey, it became legal in Norway a this week (or maby last week). And we're a christian nation, with state religion and the whole shebang. We don't even have a split between the church and the state, I mean our last prime minister was a priest for gods sake. Not that many norwegians are christians but still.. if we can accept gay marriage why can't the us? being secular and all..
