Getting the fuck out of the US.

Im super tired of the US right now and i want out. The only culture we have are hamburger's and baseball and im tired of it. I was thinking about backpacking europe this summer and was curious if any of you have done it before. I would like to start out in germany and end up in italy, I plan on taking about a month to do it maybe a month and half if im stoked on it. Any suggestion's?? Oh yeah im going by myself , unless my buddy Dan come's along but i doubt it. and i ant to keep it under 3 grand wich shouldnt be to hard seeing as how a hostel is like 10 buck's a night.

i did it last summer hostels are not your problem but if you are into it drinking is bars are not cheap over there. so i would recomend going to a bottle shop and getting drunk before you go out also never take cabs and take the cheap trains dont be in a hurry to get some where and no matter how cheap it is stay the fuck away from McDonalds or else you are missing out on the whole experience. Whatever looks mom and pop might not be so go in and dont be afraid to turn around and leave

I will do it for sure, but right now im broke as a joke and will have to work this summer to save up for next year.

And I've contrived some sort of a plan to help my fellow man..

id say go for it for sure... but dont go saying the only culture we have is ball games and hamburgers. you live within an hour of one of THE best orchestras in the entire world, and a hand full of art museums that exibit the sculpture of rodin. so dont cry about having no culture. its there if you put forth a little effort to find out about it.

but back to the europe idea... i doubt you would regret going. my brother toured spain france germany and switzerland last summer and loved it.

I did a road trip From Paris to Switzerland to go see my cousin we spent 5 days and stoped in a couple of towns every day. I was only 12 and I was with my Grand parents. I should do it again now that im old enough to do it alone.

 
thats because there is one predominant ethnicity in mexico. in the united states, moreso than in canada, people of different backgrounds kind of abandon a lot of their cultral heritage to become 'american' for better or for worse.

there tons of american art, music, and literature that is completley unique to america. people just dont take any pains to look into it, so they think that 'american culture' is ashlee simpson and mcdonalds, when in reality its copland, gershwin, o'keefe, pollock, and wright. theres more to it of course, but america is rife with its own distinct cultral identity. the fact that it didnt really come into its own until the turn of the century doesny mean that its any less legitamate than european culture. if you wanted to do an apples to apples comparison, then you would take our baseball, ashlee simpson and hamburgers, and compare it to soccer, hagis, and techno.

^^ read again. thats what i said. in america they abandon their previous culture to a greater extent than in canada. you get your korean and your hispanic neighborhoods in california, but its nothing like surrey or richmond, where you actually feel like youre in another country.

If i worded it wrong my apologie's, Im just not feeling it anymore, yeah chinatown and San Fran in general is pretty exciting but thats old new's. I want to walk among ruins of anciant cultures , eat food's i cannot even fathom see thing's that i will never forget and hopefully have the best time of my life. And get wasted !

the united states doesn't have culture... i'd bet half the people in this wonderful little country of ours don't even know ehst culture is. the only thing the us has is a bunch of traditions and beliefs stolen from other countries... yeah, its a great place to live, but one can only take so much of the Jessica Simpson wanna-be girls and all the Hollywood hoopla.

wouldn't it be difficult to recognize the culture your apart of, and easy to recognize others. But I agree, American culture has just hit rock bottom, shitty music, shitty movies. ect

I live in New Rochelle a small horrible city in New York. I used to live in Manhattan and Los Angeles and although less people do it, its still aparent that MTV decides what people do.

 
get an 'interrail' ticket from the DB(www.bahn.de; not sure if they have an english site) or something similar. you can take any train in a certain time to whereever you want for one price. its around 350euros for a month i think. one month is not too long so you'll have to decide wether you wanna go more east or weast. i can only suggest starting in germany going through poland, hungary, czech rep, down south to greece and then either over to italy by boat or going up through austria maybe swiz to italy. if you wanna go more to the west i'd suggest germany, netherlands, france, spain and italy.

yea only problem is that you have no reserved seats, which can be slightly annoying. try to sleep in the passage, with people constantly hitting you with their baggage.

 
hm didnt know those tickets are only avaible for european citizens. guess you have to find someone to buy one for you or just ask if you can have one anyway.
