Getting the balls to hit big jumps

So i can mess around and 3 and off of little shit easily. But when it comes to hitting bigger jumps in the park im a pussy. I just cant get the balls two 3 or 5 off of jumps. Any tips, today i actually 3d of a 20 footer, but i gota step it up. Suggestions?

I suck at jumps too, but I find the trick is to just go for it. ride into the jump however fast you need to go, and just go for it. theoretically you'll just have more time to spot your landing so it should be easier, try to think of it that way.

oh and how do know how much speed you need to get, i was undershooting some jumps. Plus i was scared to over shoot stuff. Anyway you can get the right speed?

just straight air a couple times to get the right speed. try to keep track of how many times you turn/speed check. if you case by a little take out a carve, if you case by a lot take out some speed check.

just start hitting bigger jumps straight until you hve the confidence to spin on them...at some point you gotta try it

just go for it. as for speed i like to be going a little faster than if i were to strait air the jump because im no fan of the nuckle. last year i learned 5s and after i got my first one off a 20ish footer i pretty much did them only on bigger jumps because the spin was easier in a sense. just pick a jump and commit.

If your not real good on jumps, chances are you aren't going to be comfortable on them and know your speed etc...

Watch someone else who's hitting the jump to gage your speed. Or if possible talk to them have them straight air the jump and you follow behind them to get teh speed right.

Once you got the speed straight air it until you feel safe, then do some straight air grabs. Once you feel really good on it trying a spin shouldn't be nearly has scary, you won't be worried about the speed, going to fast, to slow, air time, etc... you'll just be focused on the 360. Once you get comfy with those move up....

The same way people get balls to do anything.. alcohol. Once you sober up and realize that you didn't get hurt from falling on your drunken face so many times you might not be scared to do it sober.

you just gotta go for it dude, there really is no other way to do it. sack up, throw a few kangs on it first, then just do it. your probably better than you think

just pick at it like first watch other ppl and where they drop/ what they do for speed, literally ride up to it as if you were gonna hit it and slide up the jump and ull see the gap and get an idea of what you need to make it- when you sack up the balls to do it dont be scared- if you do those things you should have a pretty good idea but be aggressive not like charge (unless its huge) but be ready and you should be aiiiight- it helps to have friends push you like ppl your riding with or usually the better the mtn the bigger jumps/ better riders u see it and wanna do it

yeah man it's like everytime i get drunk i feel like superman or something... but at the next day i feel like shit... fucking pisco overhere

i forgot to mention the part about picking a jump you are comfortable on. knowing the jump comes in handy

Just gotta do it, watch other people do it, start where they start and send it. Also following someone who's hit it before works very well too to get your speed barrings.

biggest thing, is to pick a jump ur comfortable with. if you know the jump, you can nail the spins. i like to hit up the jump with all kinds of gnar grabs first, then move to some simple 3s

Sir, until you conjure up the ballz to hit large snow jumps, I would suggest changing your name from Duffle Bag Boy to something more fitting, like Paper Bag Boy, or perhaps even Ziploc Bag Boy.

Thank you, that is all.

Sincerely, Tanner.

you could just cut off your balls then you wouldnt have that problem right?

but seriously "just do it" once you have the speed down just block everything esle out and go!

1) Watch other people hit it
2) Ski down to it and scope it out up close (judge what kind of gap you need to clear)
3) Hit it and COMMIT

Tell a bunch of people that you're going to do it, then you can't back out because you'll look like a pussy and a poser lol. Or you could try it once, eat shit, realize it doesn't hurt much, and then you'll be able to try it more later.

be confident in it. if you're afraid to spin a 3 over a big jump and still try it, you'll probably land way back seat and it'll hurt. If you just spin confidently you'll stay on axis and you might fall, but it won't be bad. and if you're not falling you're not trying hard enough.

if your really that scared then follow someone off of the jump until you feel good about speed and then just do it

just always think whats the worst that can happen.thats what i do you could probably do about 35 footers and the most you'll get is a concusion.

i over junped a 30 footer, went about 50 feet, landed in the flat.at first it hurt like hell because my kneeshit my chest ,i think my body was in shock but i was skiing the next day.no concusion

just do like nike tells you to.

after you do it remember how good it feels, euphoria.

I dunno why i have never been scared of hitting big jumps...

A seventy foot jump just went up at my hill and im hittin that tommorow

This hit me when I was watching Seven Sunny Days.

You have to change your entire attitude. Instead of riding into that big jump for the first time thinking "Oh shit this is scary", you have to ride into it thinking "I've never hit this jump before... this is gonna be sick!"

Get what I'm saying?

Dont even think about the jump, dont thing about what could happen. as soon as you start riding into the jump block all the out and just giver

Ski up next to it and actually check out the gap from the lip. Most jumps look much bigger than they actually are from the perspective of the drop in because of the fact that you can't see the landing or anything. Once you hit it and you're in the air you'll realize its not as big as you thought it was. Just make sure you get enough speed to clear it and land smooth. Casing always sucks and sometimes it hurts too.

why? realistically, you will probaably just fall and be sore for like a week. its not that bad. i just tell myself that if i dont go for it, skiing will become boring. i could just keep doing the same shit i already know i can do, but then i wouldnt love skiing because it would be lame. even tj schiller would get sick of doing sw10s over and over. actually maybe not.

but seriously, no one likes a pussy. go for it

I found a good tip is to work your way up, 3 a smal jump, then 3 a medium jump, then 3 a large jump.

If you can't perfect a 3 on like a medium jump don't try it on a large jump.

But sometimes your mountain only has big jumps (not enough progression)...

So evetnually your gunna have to throw it on a big jump. A good trick to work your way up is to act like your gunna spin off the lip and just look behind you at the horizion and then back to the landing. This way you get the feeling of doing a spin (take-off, not seeing, landing) without doing one. Also, trying different straight air grabs helps to gain blance (and confedince) in the air.

And chances are, on any spin that your not corked or inverted the consequences aint so bad even if you land awkwardly.

And by the way, I'm not an expert, I'm in a similar situation, and this is my plan.

i dunno i dont think theres any real strategy to it just go ski as much as you can and if jumping is your thing then just hit jumps all day and eventually you'll get the confidence and be bored enough to try something bigger then you'll wanna spin and yeah

this is how ive found it for me, yknow like stuff that would have scared me shitless this time last year is super easy now, i think letting your confidence and skill build up is what you really have to do, i learned the hard way that just going for something you dont really think you can do isnt the best idea

and i think the right speed is another thing that comes with time after a while you'll be able to look at a jump and have a pretty good idea of how much speed you'll need for it, alot of the guesswork will come out of it the more you do it

For me, sitting there looking at the jump is the scariest part. I remember the first time I hit a 70'+ jump. I had only done stuff that was like 40' before that, and was scared as balls. Especially right when I was about to drop in. But as soon as I got in the air, immediately I saw that it's not bad or scary at all. The next run I was so confident I did a 180 over it, which I never thought I could do cuz I thougth the landing would be really scary and fast and out of control, but it really isn't. I still even get that feeling when doing zeros over big jumps, but as soon as I'm in the air, I realize it's not bad at all.

As for speed, I almost always like to watch someone go if it's over 40' or so. Just to see how fast you need to go. Long story short, just do it! It's not as bad as it looks.

i havent had a chance at park yet this year but as far as spinning off cliffs and such

when your rididng to the area your gonna drop in just pretend liek your gonna spin, get your stance and look over your shoulder as if you were spinning just to make sure your body knows whats up

then i normally just say 3...2..1.. go and then do it

Write down some insults, and as you come up the lift yell profanity at the jump. Really immasculate it, make it your bitch. Call it a sissy.
